Dance Central DLC To Cost $3, Three New Tracks Added

Still no sign of the Stereo MCs, but we can hope, right?

Word that Dance Central DLC would cost more than Rock Band DLC snuck out way in advance of the Kinect-required dance game's release. But we didn't know specifically how much more each track would cost--until this morning, at least, when the first three Dance Central tracks appeared on Xbox Live Marketplace at 3 bones a pop, which is one more dollar than your average Rock Band download. Not too bad, eh?

Oh, and the new artists and songs joining the game are as follows:

  • Ne-Yo -"Because of You"
  • Lady Sovereign - "I Got You Dancing"
  • Sean Paul - "Temperature"

Harmonix considers Rock Band as more of a platform than a game, if you haven't noticed over the last few DLC-drenched years. It'll be interesting to see if Dance Central can become one as well, especially considering its content's higher price and more involved development-side requirements. But let's not forget that the reason the game really exists is because of a brand-spanking-new (and hands-free) 150-dollar peripheral. Think enough people will buy a Kinect to keep Dance Central DLC coming?

This is still the only Kinect game I want. $3 for a song might be a little steep compared to the tried and true $2 a Rock Band track, but if I really dig the song I would drop the microsoft banana bucks.

...now if only I could drop $200 for this game...

I'd pay the extra dollar just to watch John Drake dance it for me.

If the Kinect and Dance Central allow people to do the Monster Mash...it will catch on in a flash.

So when I went to Walmart, they were pulling Dance Central off the shelf because of a "recall".  Anybody else heard anything about this?    A friend that works there said that sometimes the ESRB rating is printed wrong and a recall is forced, idk if that is the case at my Walmart or not.

@tobygw: They stated that that was why they had to bump up the price. Each song requires an entirely new routine done by choreographers with new dance cards inserted, and all that work is a lot more than a note chart.  I dunno how many songs I'd be willing to grab at $3, but it seems like a reasonable justification for the bump.

No problem paying extra for decent songs - same with RB, GH and Lips the choice is to shell out for what you want and leave the rest.

Totally agree though that if the prices get any higher, it will be cheaper to get someone to dance for you ...

Yes, I spent some serious time with Dance Central last night, and I can say it definitely needs DLC. What's there is great, but with 30 songs, of which you're doing truncated versions, you do at least 6 or 7 songs in any given session...you burn through that included content awful quick.

I give it less than a week before we're groaning over the song choices at my house. But don't get me wrong, so far this game is crazy fun!

$3 doesn't seem that unreasonable. Sure, I could get the song for cheaper elsewhere, but I'm also getting some rad dance moves, a neat-looking model performing them, and a helpful guide breaking the moves down for me.

I'm not going to go out and buy every single song, of course. People tend to act like these are necessary purchases. Only buy what you want.

Seems like a fair price. The biggest thing is the entry cost for the hardware. But so was rockband

Once more, THIS

I have the unfair advantage of knowing I will have a kinect for christmas, which lowers the upfront fees to the simple game cost and the costs of the tracks.... kinda modest by comparison. Depending on how into Dance Central I get ( I predict me getting pretty damn into it), I might just wind up only buying tracks that I'm TOTALLY OMFG PSYCHED TO SEE ON THE LIST. Cause, yo, if you buy just 6 songs, that's almost 20 bucks. I got Pink Floyd's The Wall for 8 bucks. Do the math...
