Dead Rising 2: Case West Hits December 27

Party with Frank West for only 800 Microsoft Points.

Capcom has firmed up the release and pricing details of Dead Rising 2: Case West, the Xbox Live Arcade-exclusive follow-up to Dead Rising 2. According to a recent press release, the game will debut on December 27 and will cost you 800 Microsoft Moon Dollars. Dead Rising 2: Case Zero cost 400 Microsoft Points when it debuted on the service back in August ago, so we're seeing a slight price hike here.

Case West sees the return of Frank West, the protagonist of Capcom's original Dead Rising. Like in that game, you'll be able to take photos of stuff, in addition to being able to take advantage of Dead Rising 2's make-a-weapon mechanics. West will join Dead Rising 2's protagonist Chuck Greene in a mission to uncover mysterious corporation Phenotrans' "murky dealings." The game itself will take place in Phenotrans' facility.

Lastly, Capcom confirmed once and for all that this is a standalone Xbox Live Arcade release and not DLC for the disc version of Dead Rising 2, so you don't need to own that game to get this one.

As previously revealed by Capcom in late November, new missions, offline and online co-op, and new survivors will all be a part of this package. And considering how good Case Zero was, I'd imagine we're going all-in on this one as soon as it hits, right?

Hmm... think I'll hold off on this for now. Got so much stuff to play through the now and just finished Dead Rising 2 (3 playthroughs in total) so kinda overdosed on zombie slaughter for now. Maybe after new year!

I really liked the 400 points pricepoint, and was hoping more publishers would follow. But apparently (sadly), even after the great succes Capcom had with it even they don't believe in it.  On the other hand, just because the first one was incredible value for 400 points is no reason to punish them now. All other publishers ask at least 800 points for games who usually have less value than case zero had.

Oh, and I am glad it is a standalone product.

Hm...2 days after I may or may not be surprised at suddenly owning the main game.  I honestly don't know whether I want this, even if Case Zero was really good.

Eh... not for 800 MSP. They should offer it at 400 if you've got the full game.

I like this whole downloadable chapters without original game thing. Slight price hike? It's twice as much, the same price as your average XBLA title. Not that I'm complaining, there is bound to be plenty of value.

Sadly no. At least not splitscreen. The menu in the livestream demo didn't show a system-link option, but I suppose that's not impossible to patch in. "
At the very least I hope you can select to play as Frank West even in single player. Maybe as an unlockable for getting the best ending or something.
I haven't got Xbox live GOLD so if there is no offline coop I'd be completely torn from my Franky T.T

Dead Rising 2 was fun in moments... just not the story moments.

Plus, offline co-op could be an absolute dream. Definitely a game arcade trials were made for.

I loved Case Zero, skipped Dead Rising 2, and had my wallet at the ready to pick this up for 400 points.

...but 800? Hm.

I can't find a lick of local co-op confirmation, but looks like they are PLAYING IT LIVE today on Ustream, so hopefully they will address that question. Edit: confirmed NO. At least not by any clear menu option or anything they said. And I would think they would have said something. As far as the chat was concerned it is NO.
@Brad, where did you see it news duder? The story link you gave doesn't say anything about local/offline, just that they confirmed co-op.

Might be a little too much to hope that since it's double the price it'll be double the playtime. I imagine the cooperative feature is what's supposed to justify the price hike.

It's cool that they decided for it not to require the disk. All I care for is Frank West's zany adventures and that's it.

Cool! 800 Microsoft Points? Case Zero was only 400!

I'm not complaining though. Can't wait to get a demo and play it, then buying the game! Again Awesome!

Haven't even touched Case Zero since I bought it, haven't played Dead Rising 2 yet so skipping on this for now (not for price reasons...just because I have a crapload of games to get through). But not a bad deal by any means.

Hope this means an MvC3 Frank West playable character announcement Tie-In.

First time I heard about this being a standalone title. Pretty thankful since I traded in my copy of DR2 when the TIY was still nice.

Really? That doesn't sound right to me. Confirmation on offline coop please!

Anyway, Case Zero was a must buy at 400 points. For 800 points I'm going to hold out and wait for reviews and other gamers advice on whether it's worth that price or not.

I still don't understand the nature of this exclusivity agreement with MS. I understand releasing all DR related stuff to one system, but why let DR2 go multiplatform? Moreover why restrict all payquel content along with DR1? Just doesn't make any sense to me.
