Dead Rising 2 Pre-Order Content On Sale As DLC This Month

Pre-order our next news article in exchange for the exclusive bonus pleasure of grumbling in this one!

Four themed, stat-twisting downloadable clothing packs are coming to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Dead Rising 2 starting this October 12. But the vast majority won't be "new" to those who have pre-ordered the game. That's because these bits of DLC are the same pre-order bonuses that were once exclusive to places like Best Buy, GameStop, and GAME. Each pack will be priced at $1.99 (or 160 Microsoft Points).

Kicking things off on October 12 is the Psychopath Theme Pack, which like all the rest of the content, will offer a costume that gives the wearer special skills and perks based on that costume's theme. In this DLC, the costume is a laughable hockey mask plus meat surgeon's getup that grants hero Chuck Greene more damage resistance and also puts cleavers, chainsaws, axes, and "more" into his meager inventory slots. This one was included in the pricey High Stakes Edition of the game.

The Soldier of Fortune Theme Pack hits next on October 19. We're having a hard time locating where this specific pack came from (we've asked), but that's not as important as what it can do for you. Which is to say, the Rambo-esque costume will give you double ammo, better gun accuracy, more bullets, and a new side-arm firing attack for big guns like merc rifles and LMGs.

On October 26, Best Buy's Sports Theme Pack hits. This costume is a viking hat, cape, and jersey mixture that makes this DLC's special sports weapons' balls bounce more times after the initial throw. Also, with the clothing, Chuck will gain more health while eating and drinking.

Wonder what he thinks about the Moss trade?

The fun ends (for now) on November 2 with the release of GameStop's original bonus exclusive the Ninja Theme Pack. With full ninja garb on, you'll be grabbed a lot less by straggler zombies and get bonuses with the use of sword weapons. Also, Chuck's throwing speed is increased.

 You still love ninjas, right?

All of these packs' independent pieces can be worn with each other, meaning you can theoretically create a unique clothing set of extreme pain and statistical oddness if you own each pack. I'm not sure why you would do that if you've spent the time assembling the Ghouls and Goblins armor set for free (temporary invincibility is always a winner), but hey, knock yourself out.

I'll get the soldier pack, the ad campaign for the Ninja stuff Gamestop was putting out was really obnoxious.

Good riddance to exclusives.  I wish more studios did this.  I know there's a lot of grumpy people who missed out on Mass Effect 2's Terminus Armor and Blackstorm gun.

I remember a time when things such as these were made accessible by completing specific tasks in the game. Now you have to pre-order four copies or wait a month and pay $8.

I was pretty "oh no they di'n!" at the title, but seeing what they are selling and the price (which by the way has to be a record for in game content. I didn't think MS would allow that!) I was pretty happy.

What about PC owners though, talk about a bummer v.v

When will it be a big deal for you?  800 points for a formerly pre-order-only exclusive?

Since people are happily paying $4 for avatar items, I don't think paying $2 for a game changing suit is a big deal.  It's nothing anyone needs, it's not something that unbalances multiplayer, one of the sets wasn't available before, and one was only part of a very expensive set.

Maybe PC buyers can be happy with the fact they saved $20.

I got the ninja costume as a free pack in, and it's great for getting past packs of zombies when you just wanna get to a safe house to return something or check-in. Don't know if I'd have payed for it, but it's proven useful.

You may want to check into that comment about combining bonus stats. I was under the impression you must wear a complete set to have the bonuses, like with the knight outfit.

Some interesting ideas, but at 160 points a pop it's a bit too much for me. I wish that they had some clothing in the game that was like this, all stat/weapon altering.

I quite like the psychopath and soldier outfits and the abilities they bring, though the other two will be an easy pass.

I like it better this way, exclusives annoy the hell out of me.  If I was given the chance to spend $6 more to get all the exclusives when i was buying mine from Best Buy (came with Sports outfit) I would have done it in a instant!!  Not to mention who actually bought it from Capcom (bundle with Psycho pack) directly?

Sure it would have been better to be free, but big greedy corporations don't work this way.

I think they could have gotten away with a higher price point considering the only other option would have been to buy another copy of the game at a different retailer.   But $2 is a very fair price and i'm sure many people will bite.

Picked up the psychopath DLC the other day stat boost helps but didn't get any equipment with it. Thought you were supposed to get chainsaws with it?
