Dead Rising 2 Pushed To Late September

Guess that gives them more time to finish up Case Zero, too...

You've got an extra month to stock up on Zombrex.
Capcom issued the following statement shortly after midnight this morning.

We are happy to confirm today that one of our most hotly anticipated titles of the Fall, Dead Rising 2, is set for release across North America on September 28, 2010. Sequel to the million plus seller, Dead Rising, and set in the gambling paradise of Fortune City, Dead Rising 2 introduces a new main character, Chuck Greene, and 1000’s of new zombies in this darkly comedic, no holds-barred action title.

The game was previously set to release on 8/31. I'm happy to confirm today that I'm a little disappointed by this announcement. Jeff Gerstmann on Google+

I am happy to confirm that I agree with Jeff.

If it means it will make a better game, then by all means, take your time Capcom!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I agree, if it comes out better I'll be happy. But delays always do make me put on my sketchy hat and wonder if there are serious problems.

I'm also happy to confirm that my wallet will be safe for a little while... hopefully that prequel thing wont be too much.

Hopefully this means they want to polish it and not that the game is fucking terrible and they are attempting to fix it.

Posted by Green_Incarnate

Needs more Frank West. Hopefully Capcom was thinking the same thing.

Posted by DevWil

bummer, if only because it means the downloadable game will take longer too (presumably)

Posted by Turtlemayor333

Every time you turn around this game has been delayed again. Love the first game but I think Capcom has missed the window on this one. Not exactly interested anymore.

Posted by ricetopher

Was suspicious of a delay since that E3 demo video when Ryan asked about the release date and wasn't given the date they had given previously.

Sucks, but if it means a better game then whatever, only a month delay anyway.

Leading with "happy to confirm" is a bit strange.

Would've been better to come out in August.

I just took a look at my Gamefly list for the Sep/Oct/Nov games and it seems that I will be overloading with them....guess I'll have to delete a few and wait until Christmas to get them.

Posted by Axdemon

This mean Case Zero is delayed as well?

Posted by LiquidPrince

Happy to confirm disappointment. Jeff... JEFF... JEEEEEFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!

Posted by fugie7

i am kind of disappointed hear that it will get push back, i guess i can wait a little longer.

Posted by Echelon730

I think that this would be better as a Halloween release and not try to compete with Halo and Sony's Move in September

*sigh*

WTF is Zombrex?

Posted by jaks
@Green_Incarnate:  Yeah, hopefully they are using the extra month to completely remove the new protagonist, who looks about as interesting as a loaf of bread, and replacing him with Frank "I've Covered Wars, You Know" West.

"we are happy to confirm..."

HAPPY?!  WTF?!

Posted by Hourai

That blows. I was hoping to play it before school starts again.

Posted by cooljammer00

Shame.  This was the big August drought release.

@Bionicicide: It's a medicine that keeps you from turning into a zombie. If you get bitten and you take 1 dose, you're good for 12 hours.

disappointed with the push backed date. what more can one say? i want to play this game and now i must wait longer

Posted by Death_Burnout

GOD DAMNIT! i was looking forward to it being released before i had to go back to college and work. Ah whatever i wasnt that excited for it, im more skeptical than anything else.

Posted by TheLawnWrangler

yeah why are they happy about this?! XD oh well... at least it's coming out. that's all i want. but it sucks I can't play the game for a "before I go back to school" celebration D:

Posted by DiscoDuck8k

Considering I've been looking forward to this the most, I'm pretty annoyed.

I hope Case Zero still comes out relatively soon to make up for it, otherwise... meh.

Posted by NuDimon

I'm happy to confirm that this gives me extra time to buy and play the original before the sequel gets released. ;d

Not sure why I never picked up Dead Rising tbh, since I'm a zombie nut. ;D

Happy to confirm...haha

As long as it comes out around or before Holloween I'm fine.

As always, it's going to be a bloodfest in autumn. Jeff is just worried that he might spend September - December nonstop reviewing one game after another 24/7.

GB's need to go on a two-month break NOW!?

(ok, soon after the relocation ;)

Damn it!

I'm totally pumped for this, but for some reason my reaction in this case is "well I want it to be great so I don't mind waiting."

I am happy to explain, to everybody who really is wondering:

"Happy to confirm ... " in press release lingo is a rhetorical figure of speech - leading to an announcement that pleases the publisher and is meant to please whoever reads it.

You can translate it like this: "Thank God, that the dev team will be able to finish this game before the holidays! (and w ithin Q4 = 4th quarter of the fiscal year - as in time) Could have been much worse."

"Happy to confirm ... " used by @Jeff in his sentence is a literary figure, also known as an Oxymoron ->  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxymoron combining two opposite ideas,

to call attention to an apparent contradiction"

which is meant to sound ironic ->  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irony  and mockingly funny.

Explaining jokes is a sad thing to do, but if somebody learns something in the process, it was worth it?

@buckybit: I'm happy to confirm that you went slightly overboard there, but that's fine. :)

Unless they're adding a good save system, still not interested.

Posted by JustinSane311

I'm happy to confirm that I would rather wait until the end of September, then have Capcom rush and ship a game that is either broken, filled with bugs or glitches.

Posted by newslowsad

suck city.

Posted by MjHealy

It better come out before October 4th in Europe as that's my birthday.  I don't want to pay for this game myself!

Posted by BergDK

Meh... game looks shit and due to capcom's dlc strategy, I rank them lower than Acti-blizzard!

They're probably using the feedback from E3 to fix any complaints people had to make it a better game. Delays are obviously disappointing but it shows they're committed to quality where so many developers would prefer to just get the game out the door to start making money.

Posted by busted1der

I'm really disappointed. This is very ironic though. I popped in Dead Rising in my Xbox 360 just last night in preparation for the game. I guess I'll have to play other thing until the game comes out.

Amen!
Posted by Sanious
@BergDK: Yeah but there is a difference. Capcom seemingly give a shit about their fans and they know how to keep their franchises good. So Capcom > Activision.
Posted by ZmillA

crap thats after my birthday now :(

I need more dead rising, I need it.

Posted by halfameatball

While I think it is a good thing that they delayed the game to make it better, I am also less likely to pick this up on release now. There wasn't anything coming out that interested me in August and I was bound to be starving for a game. Therefore I figured I would end up buying Dead Rising 2 day one. Now that it is coming after Reach and a little before Socom 4, Fable 3 and Fallout New Vegas I might wait since I will have plenty else to play. I still plan on getting it sooner or later.

Posted by NekuCTR

Well i guess they just killed the franchise. I mean think about it, late September, think of how many main stream, huge titles are being released around that time. this game is probably going to sell less thanks to this delay.

Posted by zombielaz

This doesn't seem like a good thing.  Hopefully the extra time makes it better than Dark Void and Bionic Commando
