DJ Hero 2 Spinning Into This Fall

Full microphone support and more mashups.

DJ Hero 2 is coming this fall, bringing about several new multiplayer features to the series, 70 unique mash-ups, and full microphone support with on-screen feedback for the little DJ trapped inside all of us.

Activision dropped the first info on the follow-up this morning, formally confirming the sequel that publisher brass have been mentioning not-so-subtly in interviews and financial conference calls since the release of DJ Hero, the highest-grossing new IP of last year. (Gee, why is that? Maybe because the game was so pricey upon release?)

More than 85 artists, including a veritable odd couple of pioneers including Dr. Dre, Lady Gaga, and Metallica, will headline the once-again peripheral-based game. Deadmau5 will appear in the game as a playable character. If you'd like an sample of the music, jump on PSN or XBLM now. A mix from DJ Hero 2 featuring Lady Gaga's "Just Dance" and Deadmau5's "Ghosts 'n' Stuff" is available as free DLC for the original DJ Hero until June 14.

All of a sudden, I like this Deadmau5 dude and I'm glad he'll be a playable character in DJ Hero 2.
A collection of new multiplayer features are planned around the unique tracks in DJ Hero 2. This includes DJ battle, a head-to-head competitive scoring mode, and Party Play functionality (made popular in Guitar Hero) that will allow vocalists to spit mad rhymes alongside on-screen lyrics.

If that isn't enough--and I really can't imagine anyone that already owns a plastic turntable isn't down at this point--Activision is promising a "heightened level of creative input" via freestyle scratching and sampling.

Lastly, in a rag-to-riches kind of deal, the new "Empire" campaign mode will have you scratching your way to the top, literally, in an attempt to become the head of an "entertainment empire."

DJ Hero 2 is confirmed for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. The game will ship by its lonesome and with a microphone plus turntable package. Activision has also confirmed a party bundle, a set with two turntables and a microphone, which will be available with the game this fall.

Two turntables?

Posted by GradiusCat

I might as well get it, I'd hate to see my DJ hero turntable end up in the same place as my beatmania turntable and my Taiko drum master drum.

Yay! Deadmau5!

Awesome, I loved the first one, and while Deadmau5 isnt as awesome a playable character as Daft Punk, that's still cool

Fuck yeah, Deadmau5! Going to see him at the end of the month!

I just finished the first one a couple of days ago, and I was really impressed.
Also, FREE DLC!

The thing that weirds me out about this is that DJs as we know them today are not exactly big shots or anything.  All the artists yeah, but they dont spend their time mixing two songs, they do their own stuff.  lady Gaga doesn't do shit though.

Are the turntables different?

I'm all for more DJ Hero but I'm not sold on the music yet. Having Daft Punk in the first one was a big draw for me.

Dj Hero was really fun, hope this one is even better

Awesome.

Hopefully they do another Renegade edition of sorts cause my turntable is worn out and hurts my wrist after awhile.

Well, your locked in once you bought the god damn peripheral and the first game for £90. Deadmau5 is a sell -out and definitely no Daft Punk, they also had DJ Shadow in the first game. Hmm fingers crossed for Justice, Shinichi Osawa and Digitalism in mixes and as playable characters. Also, this better be in the game!

  Next up, VDJ Hero!

Lady Gaga and Metallica in the same game? Ya know, I don't think I have to even write a joke to follow that. It's just plain funny as it is.

I'd be interested if they fixed the slider majigger. Last time around, it felt far too loose.

Some pretty decent music came out of the first one. As did some of the worst I've heard.

I hope they don't bring Yoda back.

@mattysen: why is he a sellout?
Posted by zFUBARz

maybe i'll be able to get the first for a descent price now

Posted by Little_Socrates

This is a vast improvement on the original, maybe this time I might actually pick it up (depending on pricing for the new RB Keyboard peripheral.)

the 'milking money' train of activisions is in full throttle!!

Posted by JarenFace

Really excited about this. Hopefully they succeeded in getting DJ Qbert and he's doing some of the battle mixes for the game.

Sounds pretty awesome!

I'm going to wait until they release the track list. Metallica and Lady GaGa remixes don't sound too promising. Looks like they might be be trying to target everyone with this rather than fans of dj-ing and dance music.

@empfeix: Ok sellout was abit strong but he is very commercial.

@mattysen:  no arguments there

deadmau5!!!!

Cool only for the awesome soundtrack i'm glad there is another Dj hero.

Posted by Ramone

Wait, did he just call Lady GaGa a pioneer? Of what exactly?

Posted by Jethuty

I dont like the new brad :|

Posted by skrutop

Where it's at.

Got two turntables and a microphone.

@Jonny7892: Lady Gaga was a DJ before she started a singing career.
Posted by kariyanine

I really liked the first one, even if it  wasn't very fleshed out.  It seems like maybe they are going to do more than just throw songs into setlists to play this time around so I'm in.

Posted by Everyones_A_Critic

Deadmau5 makes me want this game, very, very badly..

Posted by Heartagram

2 turn tables and a microphone?

BECK CONFIRMED?!?!?

Posted by Artemis_D

*sigh*

More music games yay! I get to buy more new peripherals. Oh wait, no, I forgot I'm not doing that again. I have no space.

Posted by Milkman

Highest grossing new IP last year? You sure? I don't understand how that could be true. I remember the game selling horribly upon release.

Sold.
