DLC for Guitar/Band/DJ Hero Won't be for Sale Much Longer

It's been four years since they've released a new Guitar Hero? WHAT AM I DOING WITH MY LIFE!?

I'm with Jeff. We should have a Rock Band game for the current generation.

I just want my song library to work on PS4 :(

Didn't know people still played those games. Didn't the trend die circa 2008?

Glad to see these go, they had their time. Hope more people become interested in Rocksmith now because at least with that all your time is spent actually learning an instrument instead of how to bash colored buttons lol.

Hope a new Guitar Hero shows up at E3.

I think Activision is completely justified in taking them down now. I mean, I had literally no reaction to hearing this news, in spite of the fact that at some point in my life I did purchase DLC for a Guitar Hero game.

I don't think many people give a shit about Guitar Hero in the slightest anymore. Hell, they could say "and all of your plastic instruments are being confiscated, and the Guitar Hero discs you own are being destroyed" and I still don't think they would have gotten a reaction out of me. That franchise is as "done" as it could possibly be.

I've always assumed I'd wind up buying the DJ Hero games... Would buying the DLC first be crazy?

I played a bootleg Drummania machine (it even still had the price in Yen) in a weird arcade in Thailand; that's the closest I've ever been to playing rock band.

Fair enough if it wasn't your idea of a good time. They were a massively good time for quite a large variety of other people in many situations. As for a good game? I don't know what criteria you are using but I'm going to say they were at least, "good."

This Charming Man came out shortly before the release of RB3 as RB2 DLC.

Wish they would just make every song a penny and let us have some tracks. I might actually dig out the thing again if that were the case.

@hatking: It seemed like most of the dlc leaned towards electro, which I'm not that fond of, but I enjoyed the Old School and... Hard Rock, I think it was called, packs? Both had Beastie tracks, so that was dope, and the rock one also had a pretty fun Pixies/Prodigy mix.

Yeah, actually there is an arcade machine version of Guitar Hero. I've played one before and just like every arcade machine that gets worn down, the plastic guitars that came with the machine have parts that are somewhat busted (e.g. fret buttons not registering at times, the strum bar getting stuck on one side and have to forcibly push it back to the neutral position).

Hopefully this opens the door for all the licenses to be picked up by Rocksmith.

I just bought a few packs to DJ Hero and DJ Hero 2. Whoomp (There it is) should've been on my HD for a long time. Also got the aformentioned Oasis album. Not a great album but there's not a wealth of Oasis songs to choose from in the plastic instrument world.

Thankfully Rock Band Customs means for Band Hero and Guitar Hero at least we should be okay

I remember when ever you'd want new dlc for a good game on xbox live you had to browse threw all the Rockband/guitar hero quick cash in dlc songs before finding it... Definetly don't miss that part of the market place!! Good riddens.

I've deleted my GH songs for the sake of hard drive management so I guess I should download those songs again?

Funny (or sad) thing I noticed btw, the very first thing on my download list is the Haze demo. Out of all things, why the Haze demo.

That doesn't surprise me, the games are better suited to the arcade format (fuck having that plastic crap hanging around your house) and they are usually higher quality 'instruments'.

@mysteriousbob: I'd say the first two Guitar Heroes were good games and all the main Rock Bands were good games. I never really played any other ones, but I don't see how they are bad games in anyway. True they aren't games you get heavily invested in and are more of a party game, but that doesn't make them not good.

How much plastic controllers do people still have? I got my keyboard and the do controller. That's all I care to own. I could see myself hooking up rb3 as a keyboard learning tool but who knows

Once I went the way of Rock Band, I never looked back. Guitar Hero always ended up looking incredibly shallow in comparison. Added to that, their suite of DLC always felt incredibly lacking, especially compared to what Harmonix were putting out on a regular basis.

I will hold out hope that the rhythm game craze will come full circle once again, in due course.

Maaann... I really liked DJ Hero.

Well, fuck. Totally broke until the day after it goes offline, and I'd been meaning to buy the DJ Hero and DJH2 DLC for a while.

As one of the two people who still give a damn about rhythm games, this is unfortunate. Totally understandable, but unfortunate.

@darkstalker: Oh to be sure, I'm not arguing that. Activision ran that shit in the ground and then stomped on it. I was just arguing that especially Guitar Hero was really good regardless of Activision running it into the ground.

I remember when I downloaded my music back when Rock Band was released, thinking it was a bad idea because I knew one day the songs would be all gone. That day is quickly approaching. What I did not factor in was not giving a shit when it finally happened. You couldn't pay me to go through and find/hook-up/re-download all that shit on a platform I don't even own anymore. Sad, because this certainly wont be the end of this. Guess I can finally throw out all that gear. Ridiculous I still have them. I know.

@landonrobinson: If I remember correctly, I'm pretty sure the content still exists on the servers. It just isn't available for sale any longer. It should still exist in your download history.

@amyggen: they were great games it's just unlike most rhythm games there were much more big bulky pieces of plastic that came with it. Add that activistion released 3 or 4 games a year at it peak and people turned on it . Retailers even quicker .

@mysteriousbob: They are rhythm games, and very, very good ones. Hitting buttons on demand is what that genre is, so you just dismissed an entire genre with that statement.

Slightly OT, but where is my DJ Hero sequel/spiritual successor? Electronic music has gotten way bigger in the US since that series was released; someone needs to make money off of that shit.

Did they mention if only songs you have currently downloaded will work, or will we be able to redownload songs we've purchased should a console burn out on us?
