Evidence Mounts, As 'Vita' Name Hidden in Sony's E3 Website

A look at the source code on Sony's E3 website provides new evidence the finalized name for NGP is a complete departure from the original PSP branding, Vita.

Within the code, there are several references to "PS Vita," which matches the name featured on images from earlier this week.

Kudos to gofreak on the NeoGAF message board for discovering this hidden gem.

I'd previously confirmed with multiple development sources Vita was the working codename for PSP's successor, with NGP a temporary stopgap. Sony had been internally unable to come to a consensus on a new name, but today's evidence points strongly towards Vita making the cut.

Vita is an OK name.  Guess we will find out next week if this is the name or not.

Vita sounds like a weird name now, but I'm sure everyone will get used to it after a while. 
That's how it was for Natal and Kinect, for me, anyway.

Name is okay, just wondering if Sony is going to just fall in the same handheld pit of doom like the PSP Go & other mistakes with this format. Agreed with Jeff on that while this might look good (like the PSP & PSP Go) it seems silly to buy a handheld when you have most of the same games on the PS3, if they do it right on the games for the Vita it could work by making the games more handheld/travel ready & less direct ports.

After the 'cast, I really hope the first model is called the "Vito" once the inevitable slim edition is released.

Its a good name in that its easy to say PSV or Vita but its a bad name because it doesn't mean anything. I had seen someones idea that since it is the fifth PlayStation platform you could say PSV and the V stands for five in roman numerals. That does give it some meaning but thats real marketing department territory.

I don't see the big deal. Tons of products have awful names. Why does it matter? Most of you complaining would still buy the damn thing if they call it the "Playstation Poostain". Vita isn't that offensive. It makes more sense than "Wii" ever did.

Well it's not the best name in the world, but it's better than Kinect, which is the latest why-the-hell-did-they-name-it-that device that has crossed my path. Considering that I own just about all the current consoles and handhelds and that the specs on this new handheld totally kick ass, Sony will most likely have my money regardless of what they call it!

We need to collectively stop caring about hardware names.  Most of us are never going to like any of them at this point, and we're all going to get over them as we get used to them, so why do we even talk about it?

The name is unfitting, but I can live with it.

I'm still of the opinion that Vita is a terrible name. However, that's just my opinion. The hardware itself still sounds appealing.

Makes sense as Vita sounds like a weird euro product name. All them foreigners love their Sony products and techno music.

Oh and a thought occurred to me.  This handheld will be known as the PSV which rhymes with PS3.  Synergy!

I still don't see why people think Vita is a bad name, I'm glad it's the real thing. PSP2 would sound too lame.
