Excite Truck Devs "Nearly Finished" With Next Wii Project

Monster Games profiled in "local game dev makes good" story, speculation ensues.

Not as exciting as its title led me to be believe.
The bloodhounds on the NeoGAF boards dug up a blog focused on Northfield, MN, which ran a basic profile on the 20 game developers working at Monster Games. Monster, as you may remember, is the house that gave us Excite Truck back at the Wii's launch.

Apparently the team is "nearly finished" with its next project for Nintendo. But what is that project? Yeah, no idea. Here's what the original story has to say about keeping secrets:
Right now, the 20 employees at Monster Games are working on a top-secret video game for Nintendo. They’ve worked on it for two years and are nearly finished. The process is so private the designers must darken their monitors when the bottled-water deliveryman enters the office.

I'm having trouble pegging this as a simple sequel to Excite Truck. That probably wouldn't take two years and probably wouldn't need to be so hush-hush... though maybe they just like the super spy nature of keeping their water guy in the dark. About a year ago, the long-gone rumor blog run by Surfer Girl (we miss you!) posted an unsubstantiated bit claiming that this game wasn't Excite Truck 2, and that it might be an F-Zero sequel. Now that seems like something that might take a couple of years to get right, and something worth keeping secret.

Fingers crossed over here, as I would be interested to see an F-Zero sequel right about now. Or, I guess, sometime next year, which is probably when all of us--including the water dude--will get to see the fruit of Monster's labor.

Good news, i was one of those few people who actually liked Excite Truck, so hopefully we get more news on this project.

F-Zero sequel.... Interesting.

Posted by Media_Master

Well, its about time F-Zero came out...almost forgot about it!

Posted by Death_Burnout

If its F-Zero, awesome, but excite truck wasnt that awesome

Posted by spilledmilkfactory

honestly i'd rather have excite truck 2.

Posted by dsplayer1010

I'd rather see something new, than a new F-Zero.

Posted by waza

whatever ... i don't see the day i'll buy a new wii game ... i don't care so much

Posted by Claude

My nephew and I played excite truck and had a good time with it. He said he liked the single player even though it was lacking, I never bought it. This has my attention, thanks for posting.

I sure hope it's F-Zero. Those games are awesome, and there has been a serious drought of awesome games on the Wii.

Falcon Paunch?

Posted by daniel_beck_90

F-Zero would be awesome

Posted by get2sammyb

I doubt it's gonna be F-Zero but you never know right?

I actually really enjoyed Excite Truck.

Posted by ThomasP

Thanks for that little tidbit Jeff. I'm hoping it's a new F-Zero... something new wouldn't be bad either.

Personally, I couldn't care less about F-Zero. Could this be the Kid Icarus game everyone wants?

Or maybe a new IP?

I was the same. Excite truck makes me feel guilty for neglecting my wii. I got excite truck before I got my 360, and I really enjoyed it. Since I've got my 360 I tend to completely overlook wii games that aren't getting super high ratings. It really goes against my philosophy about game ratings, but when I'm in the store there seems to be a magnet that draws me past the wii section to the 360 section.

The thumbnail picture of Excite Truck is a fake mock-up of the game.

I really liked the N64 F-Zero alot, it was the only game my sister was better then me at because she used the steering wheel.

Posted by TripMasterMunky

F-Zero might actually be a game I would buy for my Wii.

Posted by Captain_Fookup

New F-zero means Captain buys Wii sooner.

Posted by Unreal_dro

hope its better than excite truck

I don't see the plus of keeping the hush hush and disgruntling your poor water boy if it's a new IP.  You want to get a new IP out there and all in your face so hopefully it sticks in the mind of the public.  F-Zero on the other hand, or something like it...  That would be a big ace up Nintendos sleeve for the hardcore.  Or at least, an ace up their sleeve compared to the nothing coming out this holiday.

I would really really like an F-Zero sequel. It would be pretty sweet, I think.

I liked F-Zero GX a lot so I hope they let you use a Gamecube or Classic Controller with the game.

I'm HIGHLY exiitable!

The last two F-Zero's I've played, that be it the 64 and the GBA version didn't make me stay in love with the game.  There's just something about the original that can still keep me coming back to try and get that extra hundreth of a second on race times that the newer ones didn't feel that important.  Anyway if this does end up being a new F-Zero I'd get it regardless anyway.  I've never paid attention to Excite Truck... is that like Excite Bike with trucks instead?  Googly eye me for my naivitae on the Excite Truck series if you will.

I really do want a F-Zero sequel badly, but I was hoping that AV would work on it again... F-Zero GX was absolutely amazing.  Eh, maybe it's in good hands with Monster Games.

Posted by Steve_C

I loved GX, so hopefully this will be just as awesome... if infact they are making F-Zero. *fingers crossed*

Excite Truck:

please god no

F-Zero:
fuckin gangsta

Posted by ArclightBorealis

Either a new F-Zero, or possibly another new IP.

I'm am very curious to see what this new game will be.

Posted by Wright

Can't go wrong with excite truck. that game was XTREME.

Posted by Red

F-Zero would fit.

Hope you can use a Gamecube controller though, Wii-Motes aren't for racing games.
Posted by Crono

Of course they darken their monitors when the water bottle delivery guy is there; they don't want any leaks!

Thank you, folks, I'll be here all night!

Posted by VirtuaXav

I really hope it's an F-Zero game, either way a top secret game they've spent 2 years on should be good...I hope.

Posted by pikadeth

I really hope that it's a Balloon Fight sequel with tilt controls!

<_<;

I think at this point the only thing Nintendo could do to flare my inerest is a proper two player Mario game. A follow up to F-Zero GX isn't really that appealing, since GX kind of sums up what I want from a "modern" F-Zero game. Should Nintendo be prepping a new F-Zero release, I think they need to take a long hard look at what kind of monkey wrench can be thrown into the mix to change the way the game is played; and I'm not talking about motion control. Every single F-Zero game has comprised the exact same formula and there comes a time when the status quo is no longer enough. Since this is Nintendo there is a 10:1 chance of no substantial changes happening, so I would rather just see Nintendo add some content to GX and reissue it on the Wii instead.

"There's just something about the original that can still keep me coming back to try and get that extra hundreth of a second on race times that the newer ones didn't feel that important."

It's 'dem mode 7 graphix.

I'd be happy with a new Excite Truck or F-Zero game. I feel like I'm one of the only people who really liked Excite Truck.

"...the designers must darken their monitors when the bottled-water deliveryman enters the office."

Code red! Code red! Delivery man inbound!! Operation Lights Out is a go!! I repeat, operation Lights Out is a go!!

God I hope they did not get F-zero.  Excitetruck sucked. Excitebike on NES was good and the only good game in that series.

Excitetruck was better than the uber crap "Excitebike 64", but that is not saying much  somebody could spit in a game case and it would be better than most n64 crap.

They are going screw up f-zero,  hell i did not even care for that gamecube one by sega  much either,  it was only a decent but at least it was standable this is going to put a nail in the f-zero coffin, I can tell already.

Posted by MrKlorox

I never dug F-Zero. I always thought of it as a Mode7 tech demo at best.

Posted by Dalai

I think I figured it out... Excite Segway.  I'm sure it will have Balance Board support.

Posted by Ping5000

Only Amusement Vision can make F-Zero games now. Anyone else will muck it up.

Posted by siLVUR

If it's an F-Zero game, I hope it won't be as difficult as GX.

Posted by RHCPfan24

Lets hope for an F-Zero sequel that isn't impossible like the last one.

Posted by dtran1212

its Fuck-Zero

Posted by AspiringAndy

Awesome F-Zero, hopefully they can pull it off and use the motion controls well.

Posted by Milkman

I don't understand why Nintendo would let Monster Games work on F-Zero after how Excite Truck turned out.

Edited by Cubical

Amusement Vision  made the worst f-zero game, f-zero gx is not that great anybody decent can  make it now. But not the excitetruck people from what i have seen they have no clue what the hell they are doing even for a launch title.

Amusement Vision F-zero was not f-zero i am still not the hell sure what it was.  Possible wipeout/extreme g crap game, the games handling was all wrong it was like they was stuck to the track and did nto feel natural at all. in 2d with mode 7  that will fly but not in 3d.

This is one of the few times the n64 game turned a hell of a lot out better most the time n64 games are total crap and none of them have matched the SNES game or even the gameboy advanced games.

Oh and the sega Amusement Vision  fezero gx  the games sound track kinda sucked what the hell was it tyring to do copy wipeout techno trance sound track?  What happend to the death metal, and classic f-zero music? Don't try to copy wipeout, if i want that I will go and play a wipeout game.

This is the kinda crap that happens when nintendo sends there classic games series outside, the only one that  I have seen do it right was retro stuidos with metroid.

I would be interested in any new Wii game that I would be interesetd in purchasing.

An entirely new franchise would merely improve that.

I'd love another F-Zero!
