I think Ubisoft is the best publisher out there. So excited for this game!

Maybe it's just me because I find the box art unsettling. Also I realized I don't need to play this game. Thank you Ubisoft you have just saved me $60.

Goddamn, Vaas was such a good villain.

The guy in the pink suit looks as if they're trying to do a new villain that's just as charismatic. I'm not sure if I should be skeptical or optimistic. I guess going by one piece of art is a bit premature.

Add to that Ubisoft in traditional fashion, getting way out ahead of themselves with DLC announcements for characters we haven't even met yet. It kind of saps any kind of enthusiasm I have for it.

Oh man Vaas was incredible. Best villain ever. Would've been the best story ever if they hadn't killed him so early on and left Hoyt as the big bad guy..

After playing some Spec Ops: The Line out of boredom I kind of hope they go with a super calm, collected, eloquent villain like Konrad. Just perfect level of insanity because of how calm he seems all the time, truly believing he is making a better world (although not true since it's all in your head the entire time anyways); true sociopath rather than the energetic craziness of Vaas.

Yeahs I can see the resemblance in the coverart anyway.

If I can't beat the game through non-violence, meditation, and achieving nirvana then I'm not buying it. I will ride my elephant to enlightenment.

After about 8 hours the novelty of the gameplay wore off and I never played it again.

@obikwiet: There was a leak/rumor about this game being set in the Himalayas with ridable elephants being one of the highlighter features. If the first part is true, the second part of the leak is true as well.

I mean, I know part of the narrative of these games is about dropping you in a unfamiliar place and letting you explore, but let's not go with the foreign savoir thing again.

So, like, the art is pretty interesting, by the way. I feel like it's revealing some of the themes of the game already. The statue and it's head lying on the ground seems like a reference to Ozymandias:

"Near them, on the sand,

Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,

And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,

Tell that its sculptor well those passions read

Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things."

And the man sitting in the arms of the statue suggests he is mirroring the arrogance and folly of those rulers long past, and perhaps that his fate will be the same as theirs. The juxtaposition of the Buddhist statue in a meditative pose and the surrounding weaponry is interesting as well.

Remember people, it's only okay to show people of the same colour gender income social-class doing potentially mean things to each other, or else it's racist/classist/whatnot.

..No seriously, if you think that shit is racist, get the fuck off the internet, there is no chance that's an evildoing person kneeling and the goodguy took power over him right? It's gotta be racism right? You're not making an ironic hipster joke right? Pull the plug on your computer and then your life, the rest of us will be better off.

in retrospect the only thing i really liked about far cry 3 is Vaas. so, logically, probably what they should do is just make everything Vaas. The bad guy is Vaas, the good guy is Vaas, the NPCs are Vaas. The animals are Vaas, the guns are Vaas, the mountains are Vaas, the trees are Vaas. Vaas Vaas Vaas. Boom, 10/10.

I hope they get the narrative stuff right this time around. Although I don't really go to Far Cry for a narrative experience.

Hope I can hunt down a Yeti in this one.

Is this series now just a parody of itself? I mean I guess if Saints Row can be a parody of organized crime then Far Cry can be a parody of modern imperialism.

Also the guy on the cover looks like Patrick Stewart as if he was a dude on an anime version of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

Here we go again. I guess Ubisoft really did mean it with the whole White Savior thing.

Time to save the brown people from themselves, because I'm sure the protagonist for this game isn't Asian like the villain. It couldn't be.

Welp, guess I better get around to playing that copy of FC3 I've had sitting on my computer for some time now.

Assassin's Creed: Neck-stabby Parkour in a variety of historical/geographical locations.

Far Cry: Mercenary and sectarian conflict in a variety of geographical locations.

So I guess Ubisoft is taking to heart film's 'genre fiction as tourism' approach to game development these days.

@AV_Gamer it's set in the Himalayas. What race should they be? And do you honestly believe that Ubisoft have a racial agenda of some kind?

It's been a long time since I was genuinely excited about a new game. In fact, the last time may have been Far Cry 3 which somehow actually surpassed my expectations.

New Machete = Kukri, methinks. Nice!

@splodge: Most people don't really have an agenda, they're just raised in an environment that skews their perspective of what's "normal" and fair. Bias is a largely unconscious system that you don't have direct control over, no matter how intelligent you may otherwise be.

That's not to say this game is inherently some horribly racist thing based solely on this one piece of art of course, but you should understand how the imagery could raise some eyebrows. It's a rich-looking white guy smirking while holding down a desperate looking foreigner who's holding a primed grenade. It reads like parody of anti-terrorist propaganda.

I mean, it's totally possible that they're going to do something smart and subversive, but I don't trust the history of the series enough to give them the benefit of the doubt on that front. I'm guessing it will still be a super fun open world game either way though, and I'm pretty exited.

But isn't the image of a smirking white man looking down on a foreigner holding a grenade while he dangles the pin on his forehead what you would call smart and/or subversive?

And who should the protagonist be then? Someone from the region? That would not be interesting. There's no need to explain the world if you live there. Should the villain be Himalayan? Surely that would be worse.

It just seems like typical outrage manufacture to me. I don't see anything racist whatsoever in the art, it seems like a HUGE stretch.
