After revealing that the Japanese game publisher has been thus far unaffected by our Current Economic Situation, Wada stated that FFXIII would be hitting Japan in 2009, though the rest of the world would have to wait until April 2010 or later. No specifics about the relative release dates for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions were given.
This seems pretty well in line with how Square has launched past Final Fantasy games, though considering the company's publicly stated agenda of wanting to court both Western developers and players, I find the release gap a little bit surprising. Of course, if you simple cannot wait to explore the gleaming world of Fabuloso Crystal Marvalis or whatever, there's no region encoding on the PlayStation 3, though there's still that little issue of everything being in Japanese.

Wait. So announced 2005? and released 2010? Ahh... the 360 announcement was what started my waiting (didnt have a ps3 at the time). So in reality it's going to be a normal wait for me.

Final Fantasy is the RPG equivalent of Madden. Shoot, Square takes fewer chances and makes fewer changes to their FF games than EA does with Madden. It's Final Fantasy. Same cast of cookie cutter characters, same romantic sub-plots, same horribly boring combat.
Man, I must be gettin' old and jaded . . . years ago, this would have had me jumping with excitement -- now I just don't care! I tell ya, the Japanese really need to do something new in terms of character and design. I mean, I know there's archetypes and stuff, but does everybody have to be a willowy, spikey-haired emo or a hyper bubbly 15 year-old girl?Â
I wonder if anyone other than myself is getting sick and tired of the same crap from Square. I mean, i love most final fantasies but shit this is friggin ridiculous and just makes me not want to play. In the meantime, im keeping myself fantasy-less with some RE5, Killzone 2 and a slew of DLC's coming out.

This is why I find it so hard to support Japanese developers, their even worse with this shit then western devs are. I mean, really? Are they still really xenophobic or are they just being mean? Goddamnit I am pissed and I've never even played Final Fantasy, this game was supposed to get me into it. But nooooooo >.< Now I have to wait till effing 2010??

This year gap is due to what? Localization or porting it to the 360? I was wondering if there's any chance at all that it would have english language in it, since until months ago the western and eastern release were going to be at the same time... but I'm probably dreaming.
Man this game better be worth the wait. I get the feeling that this is going to be one of the crap FF games I dont like. They seem to fuck every other game up since FF7.Â
That's fine really. I need this year to play last years' games. The holidays really pounded us with high profile titles. For some, 2009 will be a year of catch-up. My 360 red-ringed right before Christmas holidays so I couldn't play anything, and with a brand new PS3 in my life, my options have expanded.
sigh this was supposed to get me into the final fantasy craze and this game looking REALLY good in design is a plus, but if the date is so pushed back i don't think i'm really going to care about Final Fantasy 13 when april of 2010 rolls around cause something called life will take up a whole lot of my time come 2010 sigh my job sucks
Did anyone actually think that this game would reach the US by this year? Square has a track record of this exact thing. Of course, I won't be playing this game anyways since every Square game after the SNES era is a bunch of recycled junk with a new coat of paint.

Oh well. At least this gives me time to play some of the old FF games I missed out on. Was planning on getting IV and maybe III for the DS. Can't wait to play this, though.
Excuse me? What was all that about how the localization time being incredibly faster than before? What was all that about how the 360 development time would have no effect on the games release? How about moving the Versus team to work on XIII? Did that? Oh, you did?
I can see it now. They delay the game for a holiday 2010 release.

I would like to also remind everyone that it's been roughly four years since the game was announced and apart from some incredibly small glances and speculation: We really have no idea on HOW IT PLAYS!!!!!
FF13 was announced wayyyy too early. I think it would've been more realistic of Square to announce the game last year. Especially when you consider how much longer we have to wait.
This sucks for waiting, but I'd rather take a polished Final Fantasy game than a rushed product and be disappointed. Looks like they're heading for Blizzard Entertainment's way of developing games; release it when they feel like it (i.e. when it's done and ready).

I agree, true SE has done this in the past, but they've came out with a good product in the end and I'm sure FFXIII will be awesome.
There are alot of games to play until then, so I'm not worried at all.
