Square Enix has a busy 2009 ahead. Chatting with one of the company's PR reps earlier this week, I came to realize the RPG magnate's release lineup is stuffed full with games like:
(Those last three don't have actual release dates that I could find at the moment. But as complete as they all looked and played at TGS last year, I'd expect them sooner than later. )
What you do not see on that list, of course, is any flavor of Final Fantasy XIII. The action offshoot Versus XIII and the mobile phone-turned-PSP title Agito XIII are also still in the pipe, but it's the main FFXIII release that I'm really interested in, coming from veterans of quality past Final Fantasy titles as it does. Nobody on the planet knows when the game will see the light of day, though, at least nobody willing to talk about it. (Then again, I wonder if even the people making the game have a clear end date in mind yet.)
Anyway, you can make one more necessary checkmark on the FFXIII release timeline now that Square has launched the official Final Fantasy XIII site (pictured at right and only available in Japanese, natch). It's got a smattering of info on the three unveiled characters so far (Lightning, Vanille, and Snow), a fair number of screenshots, and a currently inactive trailers section.
The screens are all Flashified and not easily right-click-saved, but you can always get your Print Screen on if you want to, you know, fill out any Final Fantasy XIII-related wikis or something.
Speaking of, I was surprised just now to see a note on the FFXIII Wikipedia page saying that the Xbox 360 version won't begin development until after the Japanese PS3 edition is finished. They're both supposed to release day-and-date in the West, I think. Does that have any bearing on which one you'll get? Which one will you get?
- Dragon Quest V
- Star Ocean: The Last Hope (now due out in late February)
- Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume
- Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time
- Dissidia
- Not one but two portable Kingdom Hearts games (the PSP's Birth By Sleep and the bafflingly named 358/2 Days on the DS).
