Game-Themed Music Video Inspires News Post

Film at 11?

Obviously, I don't need to tell you that these video game things are kind of a big deal. There are some people out there who play them from sunrise to sunset! Some people even get paid to write about them! That's just a small example of the crazy, mixed-up world we live in, I know. And here's another.

This is the video for Sia's "You've Changed." This song has been kicking around for something like two years now in various forms. It did the slow burn thing so well that it's recently been released as a single in Australia. Anyway, the video does the whole "let's make it look sort of like a video game" thing really well, and it does it with a quirky lo-fi charm and an attention to detail that I found to be pretty clever. So when I saw it on BIGSTEREO earlier today, I thought you might want to take a look! So take a look!

Hey wait a sec... i know who this is!

edit: A bit more pop then what i'm used to hear of her.

Posted by Wildfire570

That was actually pretty cool video.

Video is pretty awesome, but song is "okay". Not terrible, but not something I'd listen to.

This shit is fire

Posted by PlasticCow

That's actually not horrible.
Posted by Dirty_Harry

That was pretty cool.

Is that a young Brad?

Posted by fwylo

Pretty sweet.  Anyone notice how it said "X-mas" sweater instead of "Christmas"?

Que Religious debate.

Posted by misfit13b

The kid with the frying pan/pom-pom looks like Brad.

Posted by Turbo_Toaster

Hah! This is really neat.

It's really the little details that make this charming.  The way the characters rotate at the select screen, that they slightly adjust their clothes following an outfit change, and the start menu kind of bouncing into place are all fantastic touches.  Definitely designed by people who have played a lot of games.

X-mas is a valid, Christian abbreviation of Christmas that predates the current furor by ...like, a thousand years. I thought everyone knew this.

That video is pretty badass. The song itself is kind of meh though. Mainly because most of the " singing" is "mmm duh duh da do oo" and other mumbling, pseudo singing stuff. Nonetheless, we need more music videos like that!

Sia has always been my hero
Posted by Ejsponge61

That was awesome to look at, but that song won't be on my PSP anytime soon.

Posted by Romination

slow news day inspires video to bore me. I suppose it was only a matter of time with the Heroes and Rock Bands out there...

X is a well established abbreviation for Christ. Debate over.

For more information, see Christina Aguilera's improper usage during her X-tina phase (improper because she should have had it as X-ina)

That's what Band Hero shoulda been.

Haha that's good

First listen I thought it was an ok song with a pretty cool music video

Now the song is stuck in my head and I blame you Jeff!!

He really did look like Brad didn't he.

Posted by AURON570

it looks like the singer is having a seizure throughout the video.

thats ALOT of stop animation photos taken there...that must of took them days and lots of work just to get that many photos

Edited by Dogma

Quite impressive but THIS is what impressed me music video wise the most this year! 8 bit love!

Where is that Owl City post, Jeff?

Edited by Bollard
@Dogma: If we're having a "what it should have been contest," then I vote this, even though it isn't quite 100% game related, coupled with its awesomeness I think it is enough:

EDIT: To be honest though, that video you posted was ace.

Wasn't there a band that did a music video based on the facility level from Goldeneye, they were possibly called Jamesville or something like that. I remember it being quite good, I'll see if I can find it.......

Posted by Karmann

pretty cool...

Posted by PLWolf

It's Brad's illegitimate son. :-O

@Chavtheworld: Yeah...that one is good too but I prefer Follow Me cause it has so many details everywhere.
Rymdreglage is impressive in a totally different way. Funny how both of them are from Sweden. Hmm...

Sia.  Yes, I was a big fan of her album, "Some People Have Real Problems".  Seeing this video has reminded me of her, and I see that she has a new studio album which I'll have to get my hands on.

She did this great duo thing with Beck on Some People Have Real Problems.  It comes highly recommended by me.

Holy shit. That is impressive.

That was  awful.  When did the 80's transport to the present?  Song was horrible.  She sounds like a teenager singing her favorite rock song in the shower.

The look was good.  But everything else just ruined it.  Tacky and lame.

Shes on a lot of drugs. =x

Its not stop animation, they just speed up the video, you can see when they run it at normal speed at the end of the video.

@Dogma: Adam Tensta sings a bit about games at the begging of 80's Baby. So he is a fan of old games apparently.
Posted by EndlessMike

Well the video kept me watching despite the music, I suppose that says something.

Posted by SaucySala

Catchy.

Posted by Dogma
@PJ: Yup, I know. You can see Geomitry Wars influences in one video. And did you know that Adam Tensta has a Mega Man tatoo? So yeah, it's no doubt that he is a game fan. I interviewed the director and animator (also a big game fan, supprise?) of that video earlier this year, that's how I know those little things. I really digg that video.
Posted by Siris
@EndlessMike: Funny, cause I kept watching for the music and thought the video was rather lame..though it grew on me.
Posted by DrRandle

I actually would be interested to see a game use a UI that looks just like that. Could be quite interesting in the right game. (They would have to be photo-realistic, none of that digital stuff)

Edited by Blackout62

Wait a month and someone will have very efficiently recreated the video in LittleBigPlanet after literally thousands of failed attempts.

Also Young Brad at 0:58 needs to become a permanent fixture of Giantbomb.

Sia is awesome :P

I am not afraid to admit that her song at the end of Six Feet Under made me cry... cos I am a man.
