Giant Bomb Image Moderation: The Home Game!

As Giant Bomb grows, we'll be adding a number of fun new ways for you to interact with the site. Today we're happy to unveil the new Image Crowd Moderation tool.

Just a note that we will be adding some point based scoring and leaderboards to this tool, but didn't want to throw that in too quickly without some heavy testing (this weekend) on it.

I'm already a bit confused. Are you really getting that many submissions that don't have a caption? Without it I'm pretty confused at what I'm even looking at. It's a cool tool, but peoples need to be giving me at least a small hint at what I'm looking at.

Some of the images appear to be attached to no galleries, I guess these should be rejected? Some also say they already exist how is this checked, by file name and size or what?

Works well so far. Nicely done fellows.

so i supposed we should just make sure the words in bold say " this is a brand image a user has uploaded"

and then of course chekc for correct gallery and watermark free?

I can see this going wrong but it can't hurt to try!!

If it says it already exists, that means a moderator has approved it, if you agree with the moderators decision click approve, if you don't then disapprove.

Thanks for clearing that up Schizoid, what about if the image is not attached to any gallery?

I'm concerned that images for early games which are small by design (eg 256 pixels wide etc) are going to be rejected, even though they are totally legit. We'll see.

My only complaint that the site is extremely ..........laggy :(

But...how are you supposed to know if it's filed under the correct game/gallery etc? You just get a random image and yay or nay buttons?

This is a great idea, and it's awesome you guys are already rolling out new features for the site.  I'm all for anything that allows users to contribute to the site's development (within reason).

Absolutely!  Anything we can do to help, I'd be glad to be a part of.  ^_^

So when I see an image, and it says "This image isn't new, but the user wants it attached to more places", how do I know what the "more places" are, so we can approve/deny it?

Now as long as I don't stumble on a bunch of spoilers, this should be a nice diversion.

I clicked the link to approve or deny images, but it just gives you a picture without any context.  It says he wants to attach an image to other galleries, but i have no ideas which ones.

I think it would be helpful to know who the poster is, as well as in which game this image is referring too.

Great fix but I can see alot of kids just hitting 'deny' or whatever on every image, just to be asses.

Awesome idea, but as others have pointed out, the tool needs to provide some context (i.e. what gallery is the user trying to attach it to.)

Also, a mechanism for seeing the gallery would be handy as well, so that images that are duplicates of existing images don't get approved.

I'm wondering if the "not" pertains to the image altogether, or its association with an article. I have found many articles where there are good screenshots of a game accidentally tagged as two different games. It suits one perfectly, but is altogether incorrect the other...
