I'll believe it when I see it,  just like my belief about Battle.net. If the first one was $40 and the other two $20, I might consider it.

You're getting about 30 in each of these boxes, and these missions are far more complex in design. Not seeing the problem. I even did the math for you.
Because after 2 or 3 missions with the Terrans, I might feel like playing the Zerg a bit. But in order to do that, I'm going to have to buy a completely different game. You don't see a problem with that? SC1 stands alone perfectly; SC2 Wings of Liberty does not. In buying the first one, I'm essentially committing to a $180 investment (Or less; again, I'll apologize if I'm wrong) if only to complete the story and experience something other than Terrans. I mean, I'll already have spent $60 for part of the game, so I'm kind of obliged to continue. And if I don't want to continue, that just means the first portion wasn't worth $60.

@BobC said:

Total Annihilation? And they're not even a national sport. And the developer went bankrupt. Oh, and that 1997 game has LAN play.

Seriously, why doesn't SC2 have LAN? I just can't fathom how an RTS game made even a decade ago couldn't have LAN. You can at least understand why I'm suspicious, right? It's just...weird...I mean, I guess it could be a piracy thing. But doesn't that just speak to the lack of trust Blizzard has for it's customers? They'd be screwing a portion of gameplay in order to protect their profits.

Im fine with 3 full priced parts because they are 3 full games with a probable 2 years in between each. Sounds like a franchise to me.

Again it's your prerogative to put your time and money where you please, so again, happy gaming and hopefully you do change your mind. My attempt to lay out the facts for you clearly isn't going anywhere so I'll just let you have the last word since you're intent on having it. Cheers!

I'm just trying to present the facts as they are and you make your own decision. If that still doesn't sound good enough for you then fair enough. I just don't know any other game or company that comes even close to providing the level of value and support that we do in all our games.   Happy gaming, good sir! "
Ah, well that explains it, then.

Blizzard, in my personal experience, has become one of the most exploitative game developers in the business. A quick look around the net shows that it's a pretty widely-held view by anyone who's not a fanboy or a Korean. In my own circle of gamer friends, we're huge fans of SC and WC. (Well, WC1 kind of sucked, but WC2 and WC3 were great) But as soon as you guys came out with WoW. you just went all-out in trying to squeeze every dollar out of your consumers. We were all planning on buying SC2. When you guys announced that the game was being released in three, full-priced parts, we all just rolled our eyes and said,"Well, it's Blizzard, what did you expect?" That's over $1000 dollars in total from us for several copies of a single game. Oh, and no LAN. (No doubt you guys have something planned for Battle.net-If I'm wrong I will PM you and personally apologize.)

I know every company exists for profit, but it's gotten to the point where moves like that are almost expected of Blizzard. None of us are buying SC2, at least not on release. $180 is not value, no matter how you try to spin it. I paid for 3 movie tickets to see 3 movies. I will not be paying for 3 games to play one game. Especially a game that might not even be the best RTS game of the year.

And don't even get me started on your "support".

I don't mean to snub your work; my issue is more with the system and administration of Blizzard than its products. Other than WoW, which was awfully boring, I absolutely love what Blizzard makes; the quality of their games is the only reason they can get away with exploiting their consumers so much.

It's not  the same thing and you know it. A better analogy would be if I'm complaining over the fact that the seventh Harry Potter film is being split into two movies, which I am. Get off Blizzard's dick; they don't give a fuck about you. "
You got 9 hours worth of movie in the LotR films trilogy. So you paid for 3 movie tickets and didn't complain.

Yup. Just like I'd be willing to pay for two games worth of SC for two games of SC. In this case, I'm paying for four games worth of SC for two games@BobC said:

You're going to get 75-90 missions worth of campaign plus all the other content in SC2 + 2 expansions over the next couple of years. So you want to pay 1 game's price for that? I guess I would too, but if you can show me another RTS game that gives you 60-90 hours of single player gameplay, with a branching missions, user choice in technologies, tons of in-game and pre-rendered cinematics, extra single-player only units, and missions that are all unique and not cookie cutter "build the base and kill the other base" style, all in one box then I'd love to play it. =)

You mean like pretty much every RTS game that's been released in the past 5 years? I mean, Warcraft 3 was longer than one of SC2's incarnations is going to be. I don't mind paying for an expansion if I don't feel like it's just a part of the game that was cut out on purpose so they could sell it to me later. To me, it's pretty obvious they're breaking it up for no reason. At least, no reason that has anything to do with gameplay.

Listen, I hope I'm wrong. I will be sure to find a way to play the game after it comes out to see if it's improved at all. I just feel like this game is so hyped and anticipated that people are going to love it even if Blizzard is screwing them.

But that being said, blizzard will never charge a fee for anything in battle net that is actually crucial to playing their games online because that would be stupid as hell. Yeah, there are a bunch of people that will pay a fee to play online, but there are probably millions more that would love to play Starcraft II, but wouldn't even bother buying it if there was a fee to play online. So unless blizzard wants to kill Starcraft II before it even starts, they will never do that. Its become common knowledge that an MMO requires a monthly fee, and its also become common knowledge that online matchmaking is free of charge.  Also, if you had LAN support its not like that would make a difference. Yeah you could play with a few friends in your own house, but who the hell does that anymore, what is this 1998? Plus, when you dont get your friends all in one room, you will still have to pay a fee to play with anyone, so if your actually that hardcore enough to have friends that would come over to play at your house, I'm pretty sure a minor fee for online play wouldn't make or break whether you get this game. "

No, they won't remove anything crucial. But they WILL remove things that enhance the experience.

And who the hell does that anymore? A lot of people. Me and my friends have LAN parties quite frequently. They're fun. I don't know what you mean by the last part; I don't think I'll have to pay a fee to play LAN.

And yes, a minor fee would make it or break it. This game looks outdated already. It's just SC1 with better graphics from what I can tell. SC1 is a great game that was made in 1998; I have no interest in paying $180 to play it again especially if I'm going to have to pay to play multiplayer effectively.

And yes, Blizzard does care about me. We care about you too, which is why I'm trying to let you know that I think you've got the wrong idea about how this is going down. There's going to be a ton of content in these three games, so hopefully you can read a little past the sensationalist headlines and dig down to the core of what we're offering.

It's two thousand fucking ten and they're releasing an RTS game with no LAN play; you don't find that a bit strange? They will force you to play through Battle.Net; they've already announced that. Get your nose out of Blizzard's ass for a second and think: What is Blizzard's biggest moneymaker? WoW. And how do they make money from that? Subscriptions.

I guarantee you that in order to get the full Battle.Net experience, you will have to pay Blizzard a subscription. Therefore, anyone who wants to have a successful experience with SC2 will be paying a subscription, even if they're playing with someone who's sitting in the same room.

Not to mention Battle.Net is going to be slower than LAN for some people.

First I want to say that I'm already bored by Starcraft 2. Same old, same old. Back in the day I played it several times and I was bored by it very fast. Age of Empires 2 was far more interesting.
Second: The thing that Jeff said about the gun on the ghost that was "final fantasy style" is actually Warhammer 40k style. Blizzard are thieves.
But thanks to the awesome giant bomb crew commentary this video was entertaining.

Oh man, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I was always a fan building up. I'm OK at modern RTS's, but it took me so long to get used to it, and I still prefer to build up if I can.

@Danterion: This is a Blizzard game.  You shouldn't necessarily doubt it because of its genre.  The single player and story are probably going to be topnotch.  The first SC was great, and I don't typically care too much for RTS games.

I watched this while it was happening, but does anyone have a link to the archived version of IGN's stream, if it exists? I'm curious.

@Sagalla:  Thanks for the tip. I took a chance last night and picked it up off of ebay for under $20 hoping that it would work. Also DL'd the Installer in advance of it's arrival.  I appreciate the heads up.

@IMTHEONEKILLINU:  Yes you can install and play Starcraft on an intel mac.  There is no separate mac version, I installed the game from the battlechest on a new macbook pro running snow leopard without any issues, the same discs that install on a PC.  This is the same for Warcraft 3 and Diablo 2.  No extra files or anything required, I only had a problem with The Frozen throne installer that took a bit of messing around to fix.

The last time I played StarCraft was like 6 years ago and I can still tell you that Brad is terrible hahaha. Its so funny how he got a big head after beating someone just as terrible as him.

Also, love how Jeff flipped out at the chat haha.

Fantastic live stream! This was so full of fun stuff and useful info on top of that ... it's brilliant.  Teaching those pesky 1up-people a valuable lesson - I'm so fucking proud of you Brad :D !! I'd love to see more stuff  like this as long as an archived version will be made available in the future too, since I rarely manage to watch the actual live stream.
Man, this is why I love GB!
