Grand Theft Auto V Scheduled for Spring 2013

No mention of a PC release, despite pattern of recent Rockstar PC ports.

No Caption Provided

Even as this generation begins to draw to a close, there are several major games on the horizon, including Grand Theft Auto V. Rockstar Games has confirmed its sequel will release next spring.

Well, “expected to launch” in spring 2013. That’s the language Rockstar Games used on its website, and as a company known for delaying games until they’re good and ready, it’s not surprising.

More information on GTAV should be available soon, as it’s supposed to be on the next cover on Game Informer, and one would expect that to begin the game’s official marketing campaign.

Today's announcement only mentions Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and nothing about a PC release. Grand Theft Auto IV was released for the PC, though, as was Max Payne 3 and L.A. Noire. People are still peeved about Red Dead Redemption not getting a PC release.

Unless the double negative was on purpose and you're commenting on how people are just excited to go back to San Andreas and how shit San Andreas was. Rockstar games are REAL hot or miss for me. LA Noire lost me, Red Dead had me and GTA4 was a shitshow. Not tried Max Payne because I didn't really have the money for it but from the way I heard it talked about, I doubt I would have liked it.

I really, really hope they don't skip over the PC for this game.

They will and have. All of the leaked fliers only had 360 and PS3 logos on them.

LA Noire didn't have a PC version announced initially either.

Why does everyone keep bringing up L.A. Noire? It wasn't even developed by Rockstar.

Has GTA not yet had an Apple parody?

Anyway, I'm cautiously excited to see what - if anything - they're doing to the series' formula.

So, I distinctly remember looking at my phone a week or two ago and thinking it was a light sensor for auto-brightness as I turned that feature off.

@valrog: It's a classic "taking a picture of yourself in the mirror" pose, which most people do in a mirror of some sort. And she's on the beach. So.. hence my remark.

Rockstar and Valve are the only two developers that, until the day they drop the ball, I will feel safe in assuming that if they release a game it will be worth the purchase price. I don't even have to know what the game is...put one of those two names on it and I'll assume a pre-order is a safe bet.

That could change if they disappoint, but I haven't been disappointed by either in a long long time.

I just think this will be more of the same . The art style and tone from the trailers look way too similar to IV. Coupled with the fact it will be out a few months before a potential new console makes me think my wallet will be safe on this one. Saying that, if its more like the two DLC episodes ill still be watching the quick look.

GTA IV was great and L.A. Noire was made by Team Bondi.

@DharmaBurn I actually didn't like it because of its archaic health system and checkpointing. @Fjordson I had no fun playing throughGTA4, finishing it only because of a strange dedication to the legacy of Vice City. LA Noire is a "Rockstar presents" game and marketed as though it was in-house. My point stands.

I can't argue about the checkpointing. It was garbage in GTA IV. Though I thought it was much better in the DLC episodes, and even further improved in Red Dead. I'd expect it to be a non issue in GTA V.

As for your second point, I'm not sure what L.A. Noire's marketing has to do with who actually made it. Rockstar published it, Team Bondi developed it. It's like saying Bethesda made Brink, RAGE, and Dishonored, when in reality they were simply published under the Bethesda name.

It fits consistently with Rockstar's continued focus on Mature/Adult entertainment. It was THE Rockstar game that year. If you're not crazy into videogames, Rockstar is responsible for that game, believe me. I'm nt saying LA Noire is a bad game either; it lost me because right around the time I got to the Vice desk, my dad was discovered cheating on my mum and lead to a long period of horrible emotions. Suffice it to say I was displeased with how that story went, especially because the MC didn't seem the type.

For Context I also find it hard to enjoy FPS games and actively dislike Blizzard games. It's just that those games aren't for me.

Ah, but still. Shouldn't we make conclusions from Max Payne 3 instead? I heard it was an okay port for a Rockstar game. Now, I know it wasn't done by North (At least they weren't the main developers), but I see no reason why other studios like Vancouver couldn't help with the port for V. Besides, Max Payne 3 was released for all three platforms at the same time, no?

Max Payne 3 on PC had like a two week delay. But you're right, it was a fine port. Actually, it was a pretty great port. Looked fantastic and ran beautifully. The key there is that all three versions of the game were done by R* Vancouver themselves, probably something that led to it being good. L.A. Noire's PC port was done by R* Leeds long after Team Bondi had finished the original game (and according to former Bondi employees, the game is a technical mess under the hood). With GTA IV, the PC port was done by R* Toronto. And like L.A. Noire, it came out long after the main game was finished by R* North.

Hopefully with GTA V they'll follow in Max Payne 3's footsteps and have all versions done in-house by R* North. Now to be honest, just given the history of the series, I don't expect the PC version to launch day and date with the console versions. But, even with the delay, I think R* has it in them to put out a good PC version now that I've played MP 3.

@Evercaptor: Ah, I see what you mean. Fair enough. I enjoyed L.A. Noire, but I also thought it had some problems. The twist you mentioned with Cole did sort of make no sense in regards to his character and some of the crime scene investigation stuff got repetitive towards the end.

Well with that quote in mind I'm going to give GTA5 a 40/60 chance of coming out on PC at lauch and a 50/50 for ever coming out on PC.

No, she is looking at the photographer and holding up her iPhony phone. Fully expect a parody of Apple's "i" culture from computers to smartphones to tablets shown by people on the street, adverting on street , and mock commercials in the televisions.

That depends on who you ask, I suppose. I was a bit disappointed with GTA: IV. It's definitely my least favorite out of the bunch. But yes, Rockstar has a very solid track record.

@HumanoidTyphoon: GTA IV might actually be my favourite in the series. And then they followed that up with an evenbetter game in Red Dead Redemption.

I totally acknowledge that the crazy hype is a little nuts, though. lol, I mean we really do know almost nothing about it, and I'm rarely one to be so excited for something this early on. But for some reason, Rockstar's open-world games get me more hyped than anything else. Just always have a blast with them and the games are really unlike anything else that's coming out these days (even other open-world action games like Saints Row 3 or Just Cause 2 are filling extremely different niches).

For every GTA release I've been incredibly excited and cannot wait, came to a realization after the announcement of a release window and a trailer coming soon that man I just don't care. Really having a hard time mustering excitement for GTAV. It feels like maybe they should have held off till next gen and had some ground breaking stuff to show and then used that to build hype over a longer period of time. It is hard to think of what V could do technically to impress or even gameplay after Red Dead and Saints Row The Third being open world at its best. Plus how do you go from showing absolutely nothing and no real fervor in the gaming community to what is typically the gaming event of the year in 5 or 6 months?

Perfect time to release GTA V, after I have finished with BO2, AC3. Hitman etc, I would have saved the best for last.
