Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock Announced

I never pegged Gene Simmons as the narrator type.

Though most of the juicy details already came out via Nintendo Power, it's now totally official: Guitar Hero 6 is coming--and it's in the form of Neversoft's Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. According to the press release blasted this morning, Warriors of Rock will boast a few fresh features that might separate it from the rest of the Guitar Hero herd, namely, the "all-new, story-driven Quest Mode," its Quick Play+ feature, and its redesigned "rock-inspired" guitar. The game will feature, as always, a tracklist of guitar-driven songs (more on that later), drop-in and out party play, and the usual set of instruments: drums, bass, microphone, and guitar.

Former KISS bassist and all-around disgusting dude, Gene Simmons, will be the narrator of the game's Quest Mode which has players stopping a mystical brute named "The Beast" from destroying rock and roll. The mode will have realistic venues, like the CBGB, but it will also have cartoon-inspired fantasy settings like "molten fields of lava." Quest Mode also has its own original song written by Megadeth's Dave Mustaine called "Sudden Death."

Quick Play+, the other new feature, is a single and cooperative set of challenges that has the potential to provide "literally hundreds of hours of replayability," according to the press release. In a nutshell, it's a series of 13 challenges that that will be supported in all the songs on the disc, as well as "most" DLC songs from Guitar Hero World Tour and beyond. The names and details of all the challenges weren't revealed today, however, three of the thirteen were announced: Band Streak, High Score, Power Challenge. The latter challenge, as explained, is a "get the highest score" deal with the twist of being able to use unlockable "warrior powers."

If you're still wondering about the guitar, so am I. No assets for it were released, but it's described as a "show-stopper" by Activision. I wonder if it can accidentally eat bats...
