Halo Wars Stat-Tracking Isn't Going Away After All

Sometimes it pays to complain.

Halo Wars fans had good reason to grumble in late November when Microsoft announced plans to strip stat-tracking from the strategy game. Now, these same fans have found reason to rejoice. Microsoft and 343 Industries have decided to not pull the plug on the official Halo Wars site, meaning stat tracking will continue work as it always has.

According to a post on the official Halo Wars forums, the backlash from Halo fans was the reason for the flip-flop. In the end, 343 decided "that the current plan of action was not in line with how we have always intended to support Halo games and the Halo franchise in general."

Title Update 5--which was set to fix theatre bugs and remove stat-tracking from the RTS--is still coming, but it no longer supports the latter removal. In other words, it's a safe download for Halo Wars fans who love their stats and enjoy checking them on websites. The official forums, on the other hand, will still be moved as planned to the Halo Waypoint message boards. I suppose you can't win them all, right?

I can't believe some of the comments in here
"Is anyone getting kind of sick of this whine and you shall receive mentality of gamers?"
I hope they take some of the functionality away from your favourite game, then maybe you could learn the difference between "whining" and not getting shafted off companies making huge profits - taking your £40/$60 then removing functionality of the game,  which I hope you understand was only to save them time and money. You idiots should learn to stick up for your fellow consumer so we don't all get shafted in similar ways.

Wow, good on Microsoft for really listening to their fans here. Also good to see a situation where some players of games have been able to make a real difference on something.

Good to hear, I actually started playing this game pretty recently compared to most (earlier this year) and enjoyed playing multiplayer online quite a bit. It's cool to see it is still being given some support by it's fans and 343 (I know they weren't planning to remove the online proportion before people say)

Some one looked at how much it would cost to keep an old beat up computer running in the back of the office VS the negative press a few people would be spreading around the internet if they shut it down and did a little math. They spend next to no money, and get to come out looking loyal to the fans for keeping the dream alive even though it's gonna be rough on them! Because they care about the fans!

Anyway, glad to see people get what they wanted. If you are still playing a game that long after it's release then you are a loyal fan and it's good to see companies supporting their fan base no matter the real reason. I know I was in the same boat when EA shut down the Command and Conquer Renegade servers and I just wanted to keep playing that game online. Fucking EA.

I still don't believe there's enough people playing Halo Wars to justify keeping its stat tracking.
