This is not the case with Bastet, a Tetris variant developed by Federico Poloni which, rather than choosing the shapes you'll receive at random, analyzes your playfield and gives you the worst shape possible. In case you were wondering, Bastet is short for Bastard Tetris, a most fitting name indeed.
You can play an in-progress web-based version of Bastet over at The Goto of the Underground. It usually takes several hours of Tetris play before I find myself good and pissed off by less-than-ideal shape selections, but Bastet achieved maximum frustration in a matter of minutes. Truly a feat. So, if your Friday was going a little too smoothly, and you weren't already cursing under your breath, take a couple minutes to see what it really means for the computer to cheat.

I admire the fact that somebody has made a cheating version of tetris but even as a flash game I think this game has a couple of issue. If they could tune down the control sensitivity, take out the rotating piece glitch and add a score counter then we'd have true awesomeness.
Wouldn't it just simply give you the same shape OVER AND OVER AGAIN!? or like 20 of one shape and then another 20 of another shape until you start doing it's bidding?
Well the game was crap. I didn't like it at all and the fact that most shapes piss me off is bad enough. Although.......there is maybe 3 shapes I do like:

It makes the tetris experience alot more tactical, since you have to make sure you can handle all shapes, all the time. Forces you to put shapes in bad places too, and makes tthe game actually hard, without just sending the speed through the roof.
I have never been prouder of a lower tetris score. It's got this kung fu vibe where you try to get all meta figure out what it THINKS will be the worst. I think I got something like 300 points once-- heh.
Yeah, that definitely sucked, but in an interesting way. It kinda feels like the controls are a little wonky too, like not only is the game giving you the worst piece, but it also is trying not to let you put it in a decent position. Also, I like the return to Game Boy Tetris rules: no pansy ghost pieces or infinite spin.
That was an exhilarating first game. Even going in knowing full well that the game was going to spite me, I couldn't shake the years of training I've had in placing tetriminos the "correct" way, and got buried pretty fast. I did manage 2 lines, though.
I like how the game seems to have a sick sense of humor, stringing and baiting you along. I finally gave up on getting that Tetris and blocked off the work I'd done, and then I got a straight I-shaped piece as my very next drop. ROFL. Although the game creator must be a little dylsexic, 'cause he seems to have mistaken L's with J's and S's with Z's in the game's debug code. Not that it affects the gameplay at all.

Nope. With I's, L's, J's, O's and T's it would be very easy to place the pieces and play endlessly. S's and Z's, arranged vertically, would force you to wreck your first line, but thereafter everything would fall into place for easy doubles. Any variation of that scenario would be quite a bit easier than the game is at present, and perhaps even easier than regular Tetris.
