Hothead Games' Swarm Has An E3 Debut

Mass suicide and cute.

Ignition Entertainment and DeathSpank creator Hothead Games have inked a deal to distribute Swarm, a downloadable joint that combines cute-and-cuddly with mass suicide and violence.

In Swarm, you'll control up to 50 big-eyed and royal blue creatures called Swarmites in their quest to collect DNA. The kicker--and this is the game's Lemmings-like twist--is that getting to DNA means the sacrifice of some of your lovable-but-dumb Swarmites.

In the particularly teasery teaser trailer released during E3 2010, you'll see a decent amount of blue viscera and a sampling of the traps that may be used against these creatures.

So what can you do in Swarm? Without it on display at E3 and without and real footage of the game, I'm left with the press materials, which mention a digital medley of traditional puzzle-platformer mechanics, that range from bashing, to huddling, and to pushing through "gauntlets of deaths."

Run, bash, huddle, boost, stack, jump, push and throw your way through gauntlets of death and destruction in an attempt to collect valuable DNA and ensure that at least one Swarmite survives.

Swarm will be available in 2011 across "multiple platforms." I'll take that to mean at least the three usual suspects: Xbox Live Marketplace, PSN, and Steam.
