House of the Dead: OVERKILL Coming to MotherF***ing PlayStation 3 in MotherF***ing October

I think most of us can agree that light gun games are effectively dead in this day and age. So it was with some delighted surprise that I found myself rather enjoying House of the Dead: OVERKILL when it dropped for the Wii back in 2009. Sure, all Sega and developer Headstrong Games did was add copious amounts of cursing and some weird Grindhouse-y visual filters to the tired-ass House of the Dead formula, but hey, I like Grindhouse, and I like cursing. Sue me.

Happy news for anybody who doesn't own a Wii and would like to partake in this filth-laden cheese-fest themselves, as Sega today announced an Extended Cut edition of OVERKILL that's headed exclusively to the PlayStation 3 this October 25th in North America, and October 28th in Europe.

The director's cut includes two new scenarios in addition to the seven original ones featured in the Wii version, as well as all the usual PS3-related what have you, like HD-upgraded visuals, 3D support, and (obviously) Move support. Because how else are you going to play a light gun game on the PS3, right?

Be sure to watch our old Quick Look of the Wii version if you're interested in seeing what kind of action might be in store for you. Just try to pretend the visuals are in HD and 3D, and that Jeff and Ryan actually enjoyed themselves.

someone needs to hurry the fuck up and develop lightguns that work on this generation of console, the wiimote/move shit doesnt cut it with me, and being an xbox 360 owner primarily, im thoroughly being screwed out of the equation

I played this on the Wii and just couldn't get in to it. However I love House of The Dead 2 and 3.. 
 
would be nice to see it in HD though or even House of The Dead 4 come to console.

I thought it was awesome on the Wii... one of the only games I finished on that system.

HotD:O was pretty good. Completely over the top and with evil incest to boot.

One of my favorite Wii games. 
Can't see myself buying it on the PS3, because then I'd have to actually buy move controllers and all that jazz.

Now its just damn bad. First I bought PSP for no apparent reason as all games land either on PS2 or PS3. Now one of reasons I got Wii land on PS3. I will play it again.

This game has one of the most introspective looks of the word "motherfucker".

This game was fucking amazing and PS3 owners owe it to themselves to get it.

i liked and beat this game. after i was done I felt there was more to do. i'll be glad to run this one again.

This was the best Wii game and is still the best Wii game.  It also has a fantastic end boss.

Something about the logo text brings thoughts of Redemption's Undead Nightmare addon. I think I would rather play that again.

 Light gun games are ancient. If we have the tech to do Police Quest in an open world (LA Noire), we shouldn't have on-rails shooters any more, period. Make it like a real FPS, except you aim at the enemy on the screen instead of twiddling your thumb to center the camera.  edit: Wait, that's not possible because Sony set out to copy the Wiimote instead of creating their own entry. The lack of thumbstick is the death of the Move.

On-rails shooters are about time attack, score attack, speed, and fast aiming reflexes against tons of opponents on screen at once. They scratch itches that first person shooters can't scratch. It's like saying that turn-based strategy shouldn't exist because we have RTSs, or that RPGs shouldn't exist because we have hack n' slashes, or that dungeon crawlers shouldn't exist because we have MMOs. These all fit their own niches, and dismissing them out of a misguided desire for "modernity" in all games is ignorant.

Nope. sorry. Claiming these elements are unique to on-rails action is pure retardation. I'm saying  on-rails shooters are archaic nonsense from before the time of manual direction, and you're saying they're still legitimate. On rails shooters are on rails because we didn't use to have an ability to control the camera and movement separately from the 1:1 aiming action. That age has long since passed, yet shitty Japanese devs who are stuck in 1995 still think this is leading technology. Such a premise is laughable beyond ignorance.

Giant Bomb, the site where being prejudiced against the Japanese, spouting false info about consoles they don't care about and having cult followings based around game journalists is a normal thing. 
 
Article: Cool I guess, I'm not a big fan of the Move, so unless they can put some Guncon support in, I'm not playing it. Good for Headstrong Games though, the more money the better.

I still have a sealed copy of the Wii version. Guess I should try it to find out if it's worth picking up for PS3.

PS3 is your one stop shop for ports of old ass games.

This is great!  I wanted to play this, but I don't own a Wii.

So far, two out of the three games from the Wii that I want will/have been ported over to the PS3.

- Dead Space Extraction
- House of the Dead: Overkill

They just need to port over Silent Hill: Shattered Memories and all will be complete.
