Only people who look like they don't play a lot of video games can truly get away with wearing game-related clothing. When some scruffy, stoned-looking skater guy is all "dude, Mario hoodie," people are all "oooooh, niiiice." When I wear it, people are all "yeeeeeeeah, okaaaaay, we get it."
Some years back, I decided to retire nearly all of the game-related clothing from my wardrobe. Most of it was a bunch of crappy free T-shirts that consist of the game logo on the breast and... the same logo on the back, but bigger. I've since kept a Halo 3 shirt, mostly because it doesn't immediately look like it's a game shirt. And, when I forget to do laundry and get down to the bottom of the drawer, I still occasionally wear my Maximo underwear.
This Mario-inspired hoodie from Enclothe is quite a bit cooler than most purely promotional items, but not quite cool enough that I can pull the trigger on it. Plus it isn't official, so the art is all, like, hand-drawn or whatever. If I'm getting some Mario 3-era style, I want hard, pixelated edges all over that piece.
Still, it's pretty awesome. They've almost got me.
Oh, and those of you who are into cool designs and not so into logos will be happy to know that we aren't doing that whole "logo on the sleeve" thing that most places do. The logo will be applied tastefully when appropriate on our stuff. Speaking of which, I think we're going to be ready to start taking shirt and hoodie orders pretty soon. So there's your Giant Bomb merchandise update!
(This is the part of the story where I tell you that I originally saw this on Geekologie because that would be a nice thing to do)
