I Just Keep Getting More Excited About DJ Hero

Here are some large shots of Daft Punk to help you out in the excitement department.

I hear you. You're out there whining about how your house is already filled to the brim with plastic guitars and that you're going to take a stand and not buy any more games with equipment. I get where you're coming from, but you're wrong. You know as well as I do that you're going to crack at some point and end up with a copy of DJ Hero, which is due out on October 27. Hey, it's only like $120, right? Surely you've spent more on rhythm games in the past.

And you know why you're going to be right there, alongside me, buying DJ Hero while simultaneously cursing yourself out for "letting it happen again?" These screenshots should pretty much tell the tale:

Yeah. The French robot men of Daft Punk are going to be in DJ Hero. They're contributing 11 tracks, which include two "megamixes" of their material, these eight tracks, and one mysterious thing that hasn't been announced yet but probably isn't world-shattering:

  • Daft Punk “Around the World” vs. Young MC “Bust A Move”
  • Daft Punk “Da Funk” vs. NASA “Strange Enough ft. Karen O, ODB and Fatlip”
  • Daft Punk “Da Funk” vs. Queen “Another One Bites the Dust”
  • Daft Punk “Robot Rock” vs. Hashim “Al-Naafiysh (The Soul)” – Produced and mixed by The Scratch Perverts
  • Daft Punk “Robot Rock” vs. Queen “We Will Rock You”
  • Daft Punk “Short Circuit” vs. Boogie Down Productions “Jack Of Spades”
  • Daft Punk “Technologic” vs. Gary Numan “Cars”
  • Daft Punk “Television Rules The Nation” vs. No Doubt “Hella Good”

I don't normally consider promotional screenshots of games to be worthy of being desktop wallpaper, but I'm pretty close on a couple of these shots. Heck, at this point I'm practically ready to throw down for the way-more-expensive "Renegade" edition of the game... though since that won't come with any weird replica Daft Punk helmets, maybe I can safely hold off of that one. We'll see. Jeff Gerstmann on Google+

Daft Punk is so sweet. I might get DJ Hero now!

Christ. This is tempting. Very, very tempting.

Uhhh I didn't really care about this game, but now I'm interested.

Posted by gingertastic_10

This game has gotten me excited about music games again.

'Daft Punk “Robot Rock” vs. Hashim “Al-Naafiysh (The Soul)” – Produced and mixed by The Scratch Perverts'

I wonder if the soundtrack will be available on it's own? I love the Scratch Perverts.

11 tracks of Daft Punk might be worth it. Damn it, I thought DJ Hero would be filled with crappy hip hop. Must... resist... expensive plastic....instruments..... argh!

Posted by datarez

I so did not want to buy this, but now I'm really  compelled by the awesomeness of Daft Punk.  Ugh.  Please do a review on this one to let us know how it turns out.

Daft Punk helmets for my avatar please!

Posted by atomic_dumpling

Isn't that the helmet from Haze?

Posted by RyShe

around the world and bust a move that sounds awesome enough to buy this for me

Edited by guiseppe

I was probably going to get it anyway. Now I'll definitely get it.

Fuck

I was already pretty sold on this before finding out Daft Punk was onboard. Very very cool. First comes the PS3 though...THEN DJ Hero. My living room already looks like a Best Buy threw up in an Ikea...one more giant controller won't make much difference really.

They've got a good thing going here - those *are* sweet screenshots.  I wonder where they will go from here?  I applaud the inclusion of Gary Numan!

Posted by Diamond

I am still not the least bit tempted to get DJ Hero, but damn they look cool in those shots.  They need to be in more games.

Posted by Ivanetc

why do people like daft punk so much

ugh, oh well

might get this either way

Posted by Tuggah

They should combine DJ Hero and Def Jam Rapstar into one game, I want to sing some Daft Punk as well as fake play it.

Posted by MeatSim

I need one of those helmets.

Posted by ShaunM

Dammit Activision, you guys do so much that makes me hate you; but then you go around and pull this kind of stuff and I love it.  I was on the fence about DJ Hero before this, but if it's not a total failure I might get it when it goes down in price some.

Posted by mracoon

No Jeff, I will not buy DJ Hero. I hope this game fails miserably and I hope Activision realise that they should start making less games with peripherals and stop ripping off consumers.

now I'll totally get it when it's cheaper

Posted by GeekDown

Now that Jazzy Jeff and Daft Punk are confirmed i'm getting more and more excited about this game. I might actually end up buying this...althought I probably shouldn't..

Posted by HallwayGiant

Very interesting helmet/suit combo (quasi-Discovery era helmets with newer suits), but er, what were we talking about?

Posted by MetalGearSunny

I still couldn't be any less interested in this game.

Posted by WreckinRodRumbler

I must be the only one here who doesn't like Daft Punk.

Posted by slint

Fuck Activision... yet I still pine for MW2.  Curses!
Posted by CarpetRemnant

Fuck, this game is so expensive :(
But I want it so bad.

These screenshots here, and these two songs just made me tell my mom to not buy me whatever birthday present she was going to buy, and buy this

No Daft Punk vs. Midnight Brown, no sale. I've managed to not go crazy with my money and stay out of the music game scene and this won't change it thankfully.

Does anyone else find it weird to be playing a character that is virtually spinning records that mimics someone that spins records with pre-existing material on them that was made by someone else? It's like a copy of a copy of a copy. I find that too weird to be a part of. I also finding myself more and more wanting to just play real instruments and not fake ones that come in packages, whose bundles, rival the price tags of the REAL things. Does anyone else feel this way too?

Just a side note...There ain't nothing like an 808....moneymakin'.

Posted by Agent_Lost

One more time.

Posted by Damian

It honestly looks great. But it's too expensive.

Maybe some day.

Posted by RHCPfan24

No, I am still not feeling it. It looks cool but not enough for $120. I seem to be in a minority here....

Posted by Sin4profit

man...just when i thought this DJ Hero business was a joke, they just keep impressing me.
I love The Scratch Perverts, i love Daft Punk, and i loved DJ Shadow's earlier stuff.
Hell i may have to get this one as well...i'll still keep my eyes on the reviews first...but like jeff said, if it came with those helmets...sold; day one.

Music games aren't my thang

Posted by vunna

I'm still not sold. . .but I'm getting closer. . .damn.

Just want Def Jam Rap Star so bad that I believe I can safely ignore this.  Guess I have to base my decision on the GB review.

DJ Hero, I'm really happy for you, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!

Edited by Hashbrowns

Strange, I've never purchased nor even played Rock Band, Guitar Hero, or Dance Dance Revolution and I have no desire to do so.  DJ Hero does nothing to change my complete and utter apathy toward music games.  I literally skipped almost half an hour of the last Bombcast out of total boredom as they spoke about music games.

I have no problem with these games or the people who do like them, so don't take this as an attack.  I just thought I'd just voice what must be a minority opinion.
Posted by lukegib

i am now buying dj hero

fucking awsome!

lulz. very well said, sir.

I don't even like hip-hop, but I like Guitar Hero/Rock Band and rhythm games in general enough to know DJ Hero'll be a damn good time. Picking it up for sure.

Still need convincing to be honest.

I feel the same way. It's just a fad that is going to get over soon hopefully. I just don't get how people can be so interested in these things, they are just a series of quick time events with music in the background. Each their own i guess, all i know is i have never bought one, and even when they make DJ Band Hero 876 i still wont have bought any.

Then there is how badly these things are designed to nickle and dime people for stuff they need to rebuy with every other version of the game. That scares me because if publishers think they can start to do this with other games as badly as they do with these it gives me nightmares of the stuff we will see.
Posted by BenderUnit22

No thanks. I'd rather just listen to Daft Punk.

Posted by Jimbo

I'm boycotting this spinny piece of shit, it's way too soon after Guitar Hero.  Who's with me?

Love,
The Boycott General xx
