Sony lets North American users in on a potential way into the slowly-expanding PlayStation Home beta.
PS Home: The Theme!Looks like Sony is finally ready to allow some North Americans into the closed beta for PlayStation Home. Later today, a new PlayStation Home theme will make its way to the PlayStation Store. If you download it, you'll join the super-secret-exclusive club of people who want to be in the Home beta. Sony claims it will look at everyone who downloaded the theme, factor in some other stuff, like how much time you spend on the PlayStation Network, and choose some new dudes.
Well, I guess I'm going to download that theme as soon as i get home, but how about y'all? Still excited about that PlayStation Home or have you given up hope?

They will do the same thingin europe, but they will check out everyone! not just the people who downloads a theme. I really hope this is the time for my weeks spend in cod4 and insane ps store spendings to pay a little back (apart from all the awesome stuff i got of course)
What's with having to download a theme that probably nobody is interested in just to be considered for the beta? Seems like an attempt to distract from the fact that Home is still a ways off. I'm not a PS3 owner, but I am interested in seeing how Home manages the out-of-game hanging out or browsing and combines it with meeting people's avatars and jumping into games. I wonder though how many people are interested in the customization aspects of home. All the consoles are pushing for personal avatars now, but do people care about that kind of thing? I'm pretty content with just a fun gamerpic.
I'll be honest - I've never cared about Home. How about instead of making a social networking tool that nobody will use, spend some more time on making good first-party games, Sony. Give me a reason to reconnect the PS3 I haven't used in a month.
I've lost so much interest in Home. I do hope I get into the beta so I can try it out for once. I barely play online on my PS3 though so I probably decreased my chances right there. It's worth a shot though.
I doubt I'd use Home all that much, but I'd certainly take a walk around there occasionally, and would certainly keep my room and character up to date.
Y'know, I tried for about 15 seconds to crack a Second Life joke, and decided it was time to move on with my First Life and continue concentrating on things that are neither Home nor Second Life. But I'm glad other people are glad that's it's coming along. I only hope that Phil Harrison comments openly on the final product. It's hard to give the baby away.
