It Came From Comic-Con: Deadpool, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure HD

Just two of many gaming announcements out of the big summer event.

One of the more interesting fighters from Capcom's extensive history. This isn't the update, by the way.
One of the more interesting fighters from Capcom's extensive history. This isn't the update, by the way.

Games have become an increasingly larger part of the Comic-Con experience, so it’s unsurprising to see Activision using the event to announce a Deadpool game from Transformers: War for Cybertron developer High Moon Studios and Capcom confirming a new high-definition release of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

We won’t have to wait long for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure HD Ver. (that’s the actual name), either. Capcom will be releasing the update on Xbox Live Arcade (1600 Microsoft Points) and PlayStation Network ($19.99) on August 21 and August 22 respectively. If you’ve never tried this weird fighter, you’re in for a treat--it's an odd ball.

Activison and High Moon crashed the Marvel-focused video games panel with the news about Deadpool, but haven’t revealed too many details about the game with the wise-cracking hero yet.

It has already resulted in bizarre press releases like this, though:

Deadpool's voiced by Nolan North. All I needed to hear to at least check it out.

I'm really interested in trying Jojo's Bizarre Adventure since I've never played it. Though $20 does seem like a bit much. Especially when we're getting Marvel vs Capcom Origins for $15 and it contains two games.

The whole idea of Deadpool doing his own press release is kind of bonkers, but definitely fits with Deadpool's style.

Twenty bucks for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure HD? You're kidding, right?

Also, there's something off about that press release, just like with the trailer. It feels like someone trying to do a bad impression of Deadpool.

The Deadpool letter and trailer are spot on, and with Nolan North doing the voice acting, there is no way this game shouldn't win.. The Northie Award this year. Well at least it shows High Moon Studios really knows the comic series, and isn't afraid to show it. This should be interesting to say the least.

The Deadpool panel was funny and true to the character. I would certainly play a video game based on the merc with the mouth as long as it's crazy. I love the JJBA comic and the fighting game is pretty cool in an insane way. I don't know if $20 is a fair price for it but I would like to own it on something more than an arcade emulator. I figure that release is meant to gauge international interest for the franchise so they can decide whether or not to release the PS3 JJBA All-stars game overseas, which is something I definitely want!

I love me some fourth wall breaking so hopefully the game is better.

He talks to his narrative and thought panels. This is comic book canon, yes. He also once hunted down and tried to kill the guy who writes his comci.

Deadpool has two voices in his head that he speaks with in the comics. I'm not sure what they represent exactly.

As pointed out above, they're his thought bubbles and narrative bubbles. It's one of the main ways he breaks the fourth wall. It's pretty hilarious.

I am being cautious. I'd have to see some real gameplay before I get excited [the stuff in te trailer while in-engine may not be truly playable stuff - maybe super moves or the equivalent]. But the trailer left me with the very strong impression of "trying too hard to be funny".

Sure it is close to the comics, but sometimes a direct translation is not what is necessary. What works in short form comics over a few pages is much harder to implement over several hours. Hopefully it turns out to be good.

I'd love to see a bulletstorm/madworld style approach where the crazier you take out someone, the better. That would be [for me] a very fun approach.

@scottygrayskull: JoJo's was really, really popular among fighting game fans. This is the perfect time to announce an HD version because CyberConnect2 is developing that 3D JoJo's fighter.

Alternatively, what's your problem with allowing people to play older titles without having to dig out shitty, non arcade-perfect PS1 ports?

Kind of strange that Capcom would be doing this when they have nothing to do with the new Cyberconnect2 game, though.

The writing is way way way better in the books. It's not as overbearing as it is in the press release.

@scottygrayskull: I haven't played it personally, but it's actually a very popular and well regarded game. The new Jojo fighting game and anime were also recently announced, so this HD release makes sense.

I don't get the hype for Deadpool. I don't like the "lol so randumb xD" humour and the 4th wall breaking really isn't funny to me. Is the entirety of Deadpool like this, or are there certain stories I should be reading that are really good?

20 dollars? Get the hell out of here with that garbage, Capcom.

I think I've finally found that mystery group of people who supposedly exist that think movies where Adam Sandler dress up as the guy AND the girl are funny. It's the same people who think that Deadfpool stuff is hilarious.

They are trying about a million times too hard on all the Deadpool jokes. Not a single one across the trailer or press release was funny (to me).

All i know is it better have the joke where deadpool thinks he's narrating or saying things in inner-monologue when he's actually saying them out loud.

Deadpool game seems spot on to me, Nolan North does a pretty good version of what i think Deadpool sounds like, although in my mind he always sounded a bit more insane and pranksterish than a straight gruff-sounding assassin dude, but it will do.

Anyone think its really strange that they are doing a deadpool game before a movie? An R-rated script has been floating around for a long time now, and Ryan Renolds(who seems to have become quite the deadpool specialist since Xmen Origins: Wolverine) lauded it as being great. A game is all well and good...but a movie? yes please. (Edit: Apparently the movie has gone into production..so at least there is that(edit to the edit: or it hasnt? i hate following movie news)).

I'm sure the movie will happen eventually and yeah, it needs to be R-Rated. I thought Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson was the only good thing about Wolverine so I'd like him to return for the Deadpool movie.
