This could be you!If you're anything like me, you can't wait for Microsoft to roll out the New Xbox Experience. I'm fairly ambivalent about the whole avatar thing, but the new interface looks slick and speedy, the Netflix integration sounds awesome, and the promises of a quieter Xbox 360 and faster load times with the play-from-drive feature are downright erogenous. If you're lucky, you won't have to wait until the official November 19th roll-out date, as Major Nelson has revealed Microsoft's plans to let a select few check out the NXE ahead of schedule with its "Xbox 360 Fall 2008 Preview Program," which you can sign up for here.
The offer is available for both Xbox Live Gold and Silver members, and is good in all regions currently supported by Xbox Live. Unfortunately, Microsoft is only looking for a few thousand participants, and considering how bogged down the sign-up page is right now, I'd guess that the demand is well beyond that. Still, it's worth a shot.
When it comes to loading the games onto your harddrive I could give a fuck less. You still have to have the disc in the system so just let it read it. If the disc spinning noise is too loud then you don't have your TV turned up loud enough!
I can try and get excited about Gears of War 2 or a new Xbox UI...dammit, why does M$ have to make it so hard on video gamers with THAT much excitement?!
Signing up for a UI beta sounds about as exciting as going to the local Sam's Club and eating free samples of corn dog poppers.
they said they were looking for different configurations and different user locations, I dont think its first come first served... at least not outside the USA
I think I’ll pass on beta testing a dashboard update, too many bad memories of previous updates killing 360’s. I am looking forward to it though, my current 360 has a tendency to scratch disc and give disc read errors so the “copy to HDD” option will be great.
@ Red: No, that was just Primetime, which included 1vs100 and the Netflix stuff. The NXE will be released on the 19th as planned.
Not that I would care about the Netflix stuff as its U.S.A. only. Europe and the UK getting the shaft as usual with more U.S.A. centric stuff we will never be able to use.
The sign-ups for this are closed now ... I was going to sign-up last night but being that it was stupid o'clock in the morning I chose sleep over the NXE. lol.
Ah, you know... I'm gonna wait a day or two after the update comes. There are always stories of "the update broke my console" and I'm especially weary because of the complete overhaul, wouldn't want my 360 to break, I've already talked to Max three times already...
Microsoft said it would depend on the game, and that newer games would see less of an impact. Still, considering how loud the 360 can get when spinning up a disc, I'll be happy if it just makes things a little quieter.
