Just What Is Bethesda Up To Next?

Is it more Fallout? A new Elder Scrolls? The Internet is aflame with conflicting reports and speculation.

"Hey! Over here! I'm on shelves now!"
Fallout 3 is scarcely a day old now, and all anyone cares about is Bethesda's next project! Can't you animals be satisfied with what you have for once?

The story last week (here it is on Kotaku) had Fallout 3's executive producer Todd Howard talking about the decade-long wait between the last Fallout and the new one, and saying the next one won't be so far off.

I think it's good for people to miss things. Ten years between 'Fallout' is a bit long, but I think there's this nostalgia factor...three years is a good time frame between games.

OK, cool, another Fallout in 2011 then? Righto.

But wait! In a story posted today, Bethesda publishing exec Paul Oughton chats with Gamesindustry.biz about the company's future lineup, wherein he drops this gem.

At the moment we've got Fallout 3 for this year and potentially there's a new Elder Scrolls title in 2010...

Wait, really? So which is it, Fallout or Elder Scrolls? Or could it be both? I haven't heard anything about Bethesda dramatically staffing up lately, so the idea of the company working on both Fallout and Elder Scrolls sequels simultaneously--both of which would probably be sprawling in scope and thus intense in production overhead--doesn't seem very feasible.

My money would be on a Fallout 3 expansion and then a full Elder Scrolls game, and then perhaps a new Fallout sequel after that. But that's just knee-jerk speculation.

How are you liking Fallout 3 so far? If you had your druthers, would you go for a new Fallout or a new Elder Scrolls next from Bethesda? And what would you like to see changed in either one?
