Ken Levine Writing Script For Logan’s Run Remake

You read that headline correctly. Levine is returning to his roots.

Before BioShock and System Shock 2 designer Ken Levine became known for games, he tried his hand at screenwriting in Hollywood. It didn’t work out. Years later, he’s coming back for for a special project.

Deadline reports Levine is taking a crack at the long-in-development Logan’s Run remake, which has been circling at Warner Bros. for years. Directors Bryan Singer and Nicolas Winding Refn were both attached at different points, but it never came together.

Logan’s Run, originally released in 1976, envisions a world where overpopulation has resulted in natural resources being stretched dangerously thin. As a result, all humans are killed at the age of 30. Problem solved! The original film followed a character named Logan 5, as he attempted to avoid his fate.

Levine is the latest writer receive the assignment, and he's cited Logan's Run as an inspiration in the past. It’s unclear who Warner Bros. has in mind to direct.

Logan’s Run will apparently not take away Levine from his day-to-day at Irrational Games, either. The studio is currently working on story-based downloadable content for BioShock Infinite. No details on what stories Irrational might be following up on, yet alone hinting at a release date, have been revealed.

Hopefully he'll do a better job that the horrible letdown Bioshock Infinite, man that game was god awful, I have no idea how all the issues were overlooked by reviewers. Just another reason why I don't listen to them because they're wrong most the time.

That's pretty awesome. I'm not a fan of remakes of good movies, though. Maybe if Ken Levine writes it it will be half way decent. We'll see.

Meh, good movies are memorable and all but bioshock infinite is more memorable than any movie :P.

I found Logan's Run to be mediocre (just like Predator, which I watched a few weeks ago). Maybe that has something to do with watching it years after release, and I don't get the same feeling as people watching in the theater, but it was kind of lame and non-sequiturish.

Wow, its one thing if you didn't personally like it, but saying that people couldn't see how flawed it is makes you sound like a dick.

I like Ken, so I'm happy to hear he's taking a crack at that.

Holy shit. That actually made me (literally) laugh out loud. And not a sissy little "heh-heh" either. Like a guffaw with a chortle at the end.

So, you know, thanks for that. I needed a good laugh.

The only thing exciting about this is that the original novel might come back into print.

Is he going to follow the book were your crystal turned at 20 instead of 30 and Sanctuary turned out be a crummy awful old space station full of miserable old people waiting to die?

Will it have more random PG nudity? That's all I remember about that movie. It was really weird.

What's the chance of a lighthouse cameo in this?

I hope not. Having Sanctuary not exist/be the bombed out remnants of Washington DC was a really nice twist.

Interested to see what Levine would do with the material, though I'm also sure that whatever script he turns in will either never see the light of day or meet its death via endless rewrites.

You should elaborate on your point, because right now you sound no better than the reviewers that cite the game as feeling good.

Holy shit, this movie is still going to happen?

Last I heard was Gosling and Refn were teaming up for this and that was what, three years ago I think?

rapture scene confirmed.

Good for him!

Elizabeth & Booker would have made a great Hugo/Nebula Award promising 5 page Science Fiction short story ... instead they made a gazillion dollar expensive FPS out of it.

Also, "set pieces" seem to suit him somehow, these days? ("Look at this stage, we created! Look at this spectacle, you cannot interact with, because I am showing it to you")

Cool. Logan's Run was a pretty alright sci-fi film and I wouldn't mind seeing a remake.

i want the bioshock infinite deathmatch multiplayer, haters be damned

Posted by Tidel

Oh good. Now I don't have to see the original. I'm sure I've seen enough of it in Futurama, anyway.

Posted by Grimpopo

Nerd Info Incoming: Technically Logan wasn't trying to avoid his fate. He was sort of working undercover to find and destroy Sanctuary. Which was the place all the people who were trying to avoid their fate were running to.

Though, granted, along the way... well, anyway, maybe you are right.

Haven't seen the original, but from the description it sounds like something Rian Johnson would be great for.

it could be amazingly next level. imagine capture the flag matches flying around on rails through buildings and setting traps and shooting crows at people and opening tears and making use of all these things in a fast paced competitive setting.. people who are bored of FPS and get bummed when things are 'just FPS' have no imagination.. there are so many possibilities for first person games.. especailly competitive. titanfall and destiny could be amazing, and so could bioshock infinite multiplayer. ..

Posted by GalacticGravy

Watched the original about a year ago. It's 70s as hell. I was glad that, as a sci-fi fan, I had seen it but I don't think I'd jump to go watch it again.

Maybe film will be a better medium for Mr. Levine, maybe not.
