Killzone 3 Gold, Multiplayer Preorder Bonuses Detailed

Who's in for double experience?

Guerrilla Games managed to jam all that “extra” into Killzone 3 in time for its expected release date. The promising sci-fi shooter sequel has reached gold status according to a recent PS blog post and will indeed launch on Feb. 22, 2011 with full 3D support, online and local co-op components, in-game jet packs, and optional PS Move functionality.

But which version of the game should you get? If you like fake helmets, the Helghast Edition might be up your alley, as it boasts a cat-sized Helghast helmet replica in addition to a game soundtrack, a “Retro Map” pack downloadable voucher, and several pre-order unlocks. If you happen to like simple $60 games, then, well, the normal version of the game should do you just fine.

== TEASER ==I feel like I need to note that the aforementioned Retro Map pack voucher is also a pre-order bonus at every possible participating retailer, including the big three: GameStop, Best Buy, and Amazon. So, if you don’t want to be cut out of part of the day-one multiplayer experience, you should probably consider visiting a store to reserve a copy (as much as that sucks to do).

Here's the full list of pre-order stuff via the posting:

GameStop – Guerrilla Pack
Pre-order Killzone 3 and receive a GameStop Exclusive PSN code unlocking all multiplayer weapons and abilities for the first 24 hours of multiplayer gameplay. Also includes the Killzone 3 Retro Map Pack, featuring two of the most popular maps from Killzone 2.

Best Buy – Fast Starter Pack
Pre-order Killzone 3 and receive a BestBuy Exclusive PSN code allowing you to rank up faster, as you earn experience points at double the normal rate for the first 24 hours of multiplayer gameplay. Also includes the Killzone 3 Retro Map Pack, featuring two of the most popular maps from Killzone 2.

Amazon.com – Unlock and Load Pack
Pre-order Killzone 3 and receive an Amazon.com Exclusive PSN code and get instant access to 3 Unlock Points to use on the weapon or ability of your choice and get the early edge in Killzone 3 Multiplayer. Also includes the Killzone 3 Retro Map Pack, featuring two of the most popular maps from Killzone 2.

All other participating retailers – Retro Pack
Pre-order Killzone 3 and receive an exclusive PSN code giving you the Killzone 3 Retro Map Pack, featuring two of the most popular maps from Killzone 2. Also receive an exclusive PlayStation 3 Dynamic Theme.

Killzone 3. Kind of a big deal, I heard. Are you going to be playing on release day?

Aw yeah love me some killzone 3, tho preorder bonuses are a bitch...

Posted by Afroman269

I think I'm going to rent this. KZ 2 multiplayer never held my interest for that long.

Posted by pavakah

I hope the controls are tighter in this one

Posted by BulletproofMonk

At least they're not locking anything important behind the preorder bonuses.

Also, I'm fucking excited for KZ3!

Posted by benjaebe

God damn retailer specific preorder bonuses. Amazon seems like the best anyway, so at least that worked out.

Posted by SSully

I cannot wait. Its a damn shame they did not have splitscreen coop in the original, but atleast they are fixing their mistakes with this one!

Posted by Warchief

I hate retailer exclusive DLC. so no sale for me.

Posted by Monk

Didn't fall in love with the game although the mutli was good.

Posted by Garadon

I'm pumped for this game. If I had to choose I'd probably get the 3 unlock points, since that's persistent. But Europe gets the collector's edition (in a steelbook) which comes with a code that unlocks all of those bonuses I think. So if it's not very expensive I'll get that, otherwise regular ass edition with no bonuses. Although those retro maps are tempting.

Posted by OtakuGamer

Oh FFS, damn retailer exclusive deals.

Posted by Killroycantkill

Lets just hope that explosives arn't the be all end all for multiplayer weapons like in the first two games.
Posted by MisterMouse

those preorder bonuses seem crazy...

Posted by Swarfigo

I'll wait for a $40 Amazon sale a month or so after release. Killzone has been fun but it always feels "meh" to me.

Posted by Milkman

Those are probably the worst pre-order bonuses I've ever seen. "Want a huge advantage over everyone else online? Come to GameStop!"

Edited by Lazyaza

I rarely buy games day one, not having to deal with assholes who have a 24 hour advantage over everyone else is a good reason. :P

Posted by Palaeomerus

I think I'll wait to pick this up at a lower price next summer. I kind of want to try out Bulletstorm more(since it seems more creatively wacky like older FPS games were) and I NEED Deadspace 2 so I probably won't have the money for Killzone 3.

Posted by Zealousadonis

Glad those retailer exclusives are mediocre, I almost had to get upset they would pull that shit.

Posted by Turtlemayor333

Pretty gross. Amazon looks the best unless you're clearing out your schedule to play Killzone day one.

Posted by Sammo21

Chances are the "preorder bonus" is just shady wording as it will be new in every boxed copy, as most of the "preorder bonuses" have been lately.

Edited by Doctorchimp

Not only am I getting serious Halo Reach deja vu with the jetpacks and assassination stuff, but they're adding in a cat sized Helghast helmet?

Man am I gonna skip this one like I should have skipped Killzone 2, fool me once, shame on you fool me twice with your generic game shame on me.

Then you add in this gross pre-order bullshit on top of it...

Posted by Chubbaluphigous

I am extremely excited for this game.  Though the only reason I have it preordered is because of left over money form a game trade in deal from a while back.  I hate preorders and don't like to encourage them.  These are mass produced disks, there is no reason that preorders should be needed.  If Gamestop decides to choke stock to artificially create a need for preorders then I go to a big store that gets plenty of stock.

Yup. Basically, they went with a lesser evil. Still kinda bites, but hey. Looks like Gamestop's bonus kinda sucks. Yeah you'll be better than everyone else for those 24 hours, but everyone else will be ahead of you as soon as that time is up. Plus it ALWAYS sucks to see all the cool stuff, experience it, and then have it suddenly taken away.
Posted by captain_clayman

if the controls are better than the first one i might pick this up.

Posted by thecosmicfly

Glad to see Giamtbomb's 2010 Worst Trend is still in full effect within the first few months of 2011. Because, yeah, that shit's always welcomed!

Well, at least these are only temporary, very trivial bonuses, and the actual tangible content is available for everyone who feels the obligation to preorder. Y'know, the way it should be. *cough*
Posted by SomeJerk

Retailer exclusive bs that actually has an effect on the game you play with others needs to goddamn stop.

Posted by Branthog

Wait, you mean they aren't going to pull the same fucking bullshit those assholes at Bioware are pulling with Dragon Age II? You know, where the best bonus is based on a pre-order... and that pre-order has to be made by January 11th... several months before the game is released . . . when nobody is even thinking about getting around to pre-ordering?

Posted by Korolev

I will deliberately refuse to preorder. I will still buy the game. I will not preorder. Is it a pointlessly stupid act of protest that will change nothing? YES!

Posted by Sjupp

At least it doesn't lock you out of any content, which is fine by me. Seeing though as many people doesn't make it past their first 24 hours of multiplayer, these are pretty rotten..

@captain_clayman:
" if the controls are better than the first one i might pick this up. "
They were very responsive in the Beta. To me they felt similar to Bad Company 2 as opposed to the sluggish controls in KZ2.  It is also possible that they might have tweaked/improved them for retail based on feedback from the beta.
Posted by GetEveryone

Want. I still need to finish Resistance 2 and KZ2. Damn...

Posted by Enigma777

I preorderd it from Amazon, but I really wish it came with the dynamic theme. :(

Posted by ParamedicFoetus

Use of the word retro on two year old maps seems misplaced to me.

So this is a preorder specific Abilitease.

it's not like Halo in anyway lol

name one way that's not just "humans on enemy planet fighting baddies"

Man these preorder bonuses are a tad ridiculous. I suppose at least it's not a great deal either way. Not sure I'll be getting this until at least a few months later, it comes out the same day as Bulletstorm and I'm way more excited for that - I don't need another serious online shooter really, and I have no investment in the Killzone story so far. That said, the game looks gorgeous, so I may have to play it at some time.

Posted by ProfessorEss

I dunno, I still just don't get it.

Posted by Jayross

SO WHY THE FUCK DOES AMAZON NOT HAVE FREE RELEASE-DAY SHIPPING FOR PREORDERING? I MEAN CMON, SONY, YOU ARE LOSING SALES, HERE!!!!!!11111!

Posted by Bucketdeth

Already preordered from EB Games a while back, can't wait to play this.

Posted by Jensonb

Well I already have a Pre-Order with Amazon.co.uk, so it looks like I'm getting the Map Pack and the Unlock Points. Seems pretty cool :D

Posted by tobygw

That guy in the trailer looks cold. He isn't even wearing a jacket.

Long time ago, DLC was free, rich of content and the developers would listen to the gamers (their costumers) feedback and released new content for free. Nowadays you have to pay for the DLC, and most time, for crappy and expensive DLC.

In the future (almost today), you'll have to pre-order a game (and pay full-price for it) at a specific store to gain a code for a DLC that should be free. And pay to play a specific online game because companies don't like losing money (little amount of it) due to the used-copy games market.

Years after years we see the gaming business falling apart with decisions like these. I'm not saying that Guerrila Games is the only company that as ever done this at pre-launch/launch of a game (this was done for other games as well, in the past):

I just think that these decisions and other ones are destroying the gaming business in general, but, unfortunatelly, the greedy companies aren't the only one's responsible for this.

You, gamer's, by buying crappy DLC and pre-ordering a game just to get a DLC code that was supposed to be free, are contribuiting to this giant snow ball to keep growing.

PS: At least, PS3 users can play online for free.

Early unlocks and speedier rank ups? GROSS.

Posted by 27thRed_Martyr

Im hype like Giga Puddi

Posted by Wuddel

Well, it is only for the first 24 hours, and the skill points from Amazon likely net the same advantage. Probably the servers are bad anyway on day one. The maps are the only real incentive.

Posted by Potango

crap i need to start working on beating part 2
not a big fan of Pre order stuff but this isnt as bad as what MK is doing. Ed boon you break my heart :(

Posted by the_OFFICIAL_jAPanese_teaBAG

ill probably just get this game on the release date.  lots of the pre-order stuff isnt appealing to me...   to be honest even if the pre-order edition just has a different cover than the rest, i would definately pre-order it

Posted by iqed

The pre-orders bonuses for this are awful. You can get both amazon bonuses from slurpee cup codes.

Edited by handlas

I'm against preorder bonus crap like everyone else.  Like costumes and such that you use to be able to play through a game and unlock to use but now you must preorder to get these sort of things.  Map packs as well are lame.

However, Amazon has some good ones lately.  Preordered Little Big Planet 2 and get 20 bucks of credit.  They also have 10 dollars to your next video game purchase if you preorder MvC3.  I'm not against those types of preorders at all especially with all these games coming out that I do want.

Posted by TwoOneFive

yes, i will be playing it on release day.
