Kinect With Kinect Adventures To Hit This November At $150

Microsoft reveals Kinect pricing and bundles.

And just like that, all the fun speculation ends. Kinect will cost $150 and will ship this November with a copy of Kinect Adventures. It will additionally be sold in a bundle with the arcade version of the redesigned Xbox 360 this holiday for $300.

Retailers had it right about Kinect's price, and it looks like Amazon Deutschland nailed it in respect to the arcade SKU's storage. Microsoft has confirmed this morning that this version of the console will sport 4GBs of internal memory, a matte finish, and built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi, according to official press materials. It will also be sold as a stand-alone unit for $200 starting on August 3, 2010.

No Caption Provided

Microsoft has confirmed that a selection Kinect launch titles, Kinect Sports, Kinectimals, Kinect Joy Ride, and Dance Central, will hit retail at a $50 price point. More than 15 games, according to Microsoft, will be available at launch. Pre-orders for either the bundle or Kinect will net future owners a download voucher for three "exclusive" levels in Kinect Adventures.

Thanks goes to fwylo for the initial intel!

UPDATE: Edited to reflect that pre-orders will net users day-one levels for Kinect Adventures.

If there is some kind of trade in promotion for the $300 bundle I may go for it. Not that I'm really excited about Kinect, it's just been soooo long since I've bought new hardware.

$150 is a dumb price for Kinect. People can easily snag a Wii for that, and the Wii has more cache with the general public. $99 would have put it in impulse range.

GOOD:                                                                                                BAD:
Kinect gets a pack-in for $150  --- KA is pretty lame / Dance Central is only decent Kinect game

Games are $50 instead of $60   ----  $40 Move games, Aside from DC, Kinect games look cheap

Arcade/Kinect saves $50 bucks ----- Screws older models with HD looking to be upgraded

Arcade includes WiFi --------4GB not enough for many LIVE features/would trade WiFi for 20GB HD

I wouldn't have a problem paying $150 if Microsoft shows some real games. And I still baffled by the appeal of Dance Central.

MS really should wait to overprice their stuff next generation, they should've viewed this generation as being a drug pusher, lowering their price to try to get people a taste.  I don't think a company can pull off the mid generation re-launch.  Not when people that want a motion controller probably already bought the Wii.    I'm sure MS will market the hell out of the thing and put demo kiosks everywhere, but they've made their uphill climb rougher than it needed to be.

Microsoft must be color blind. Those colors are horrendous. Purple, dark blue, silver, neon green, white.. matches the black console + grey/silver platinum hits boxes perfectly.

They need to keep it simple. Nintendo is pure white (and silver) on everything. Sony is pure black + red greatest hits.

As much as I try to not get used game hardware at places like Gamestop, at least with the game being bundled with the hardware means that the used hardware of kinect should be in the $60-80 range I'm guessing which is at least a bit more affordable compared to the PS move depending on how many of the controllers you need.

It is really weird timing to bring out a add-on like this 5 years into the 360's life.  Coming out so late, Kinect really needed to hit the ground running with lots of great games. Instead it's all Wii-Clones, free XBLA Arcade titles with motion controls tacked on, and lots of Dancing and Fitness junk. 5 years into the 360's life, MS wants core gamers to trust them that untitled, unannounced good games are coming, maybe on some vague date in 2011? MAYBE?

Is there anyone out there that would NOT take the under that a new MS console will come out by 2013? Even under the best circumstances (Kinect launch sells millions of units despite a terrible game line up, good 3rd party games are green lit, they start coming out very end of 2011/first half of 2012) Kinect doesn't seem to have a bright or long future. MS BETTER make the current Kinect the standard motion tech for their next system too. If the Xbox 720 games are running on Kinect 2, leaving Kinect adopters with dead tech so soon after launch, then MS learned nothing from the latter SEGA years.

I was under the impression Kinect Sports, Kinectimals and Joy Ride would all be one game. Paying $50 for each of them is ridiculous. I'm happy to pay that for Dance Central though, or whatever the UK equivalent is anyway...

Meh, ultimately most of us will get it eventually.

I don't think the math breaks down quite like that, though. Almost every game-playing household already has a 360 in it, so it's closer to $150 vs $200, which becomes a bit more reasonable (Kinect having superior tech vs Wii having a vastly larger library).

I dunno, we can all sit here and be armchair analysts, but at the end of the day, if $150 is an absurd amount of money that nobody will realistically pay, don't you think the people at Microsoft who crunch these numbers for a living would have noticed?

Yeah because people who set prices are always right? Tell that to Sony 4 years ago when the PS3 was 500-600 at launch day.

150 is way too high for a glorified Eyetoy with shitty shovelware games. At least the Wii HAS quality games.

It's £130 in the UK with that silly wii sports rip off game. The games sell for FULL price here at £40.

Now the thing is if they took off the wii sports rip off and sold it on it's own for £90 I'd probably buy it, especially if i saw a game that i wanted. As it goes there forcing a game on me that i wouldn't actually accept even if it was free and over the £100 mark is just too much to ask.

I may be the only one, but I'm picking this up.  I know you can play Child of Eden with the normal 360 controller, but after watching Mizuguchi play with his hands, I don't have much of a choice.  Here's to hoping for a collector's edition with white tuxedo gloves.

I'll get Kinect primarily for that title, and the hope that other cool games will come of it in the future.  Hope it's not a waste of money.

To me, this is where they're probably aiming; families/homes that have a 360 but no Wii. Whether it's because you didn't want to spend another 250 getting a 2nd console and 2nd controller to go with it, or you didn't want to have the lower res graphics on your hd tv doesn't really matter to MS. What matters is that you have a 360, and no Wii, (or that you have a Wii that gets used essentially never, for one of the above mentioned reasons).

I'm fuzzy on the date that it happened, but I remember an MS press conference (perhaps last year?) where they were talking about price, and the guy on stage said "Well, you know, early adopters pay a higher price than people who wait, sometimes even if they're only waiting a few months." I'm not sure if xmas is too soon, but I'd expect something about 4 - 6 months in, depending on sales. Granted, that something will probably be a 99.99 Kinect without a game, but if it gets below that semi-magical 100.00 range, it could give them a nice boost.

Well no surprises there. I still think they need to hit $129 with a bundle before it will sell well.

The biggest disappointment is the $50 price tag for games. Those games are not deserving of that price and I think the sales are going to reflect that.

I think you bring up a good point about who they are looking to sell to.  I also think that people who have a Wii, most likely bought it a year or tow ago, and are probably ready for something more, HD, Kinect, Netflix/Hulu.  The Xbox really does hit the 'whole family' market.  When before little girls and moms wanted the Wii, little boys and dads wanted the Xbox, now the can 'agree' on the xbox.

None of the motion controls are targeted at hardcore gamers anyway, I know that I and most likely the majority of this site, really couldn't care less about the Kinect, Move, and Wii Motion Plus controllers, but I'm not who these products are aimed at.

That said, I do think that the impact of Kinect will be felt outside of gaming.  It is the beginning of having everything integrated, ie turning on lights by waving your hand, or brewing coffee by asking for it.

As far as connect goes, I might buy one just for Dance Central alone. Not sure if I'll get it right when it comes out though. Maybe I'll wait til the prices drop.

MATTE FINISH, MATTE FINISH!!! Ugh, as somebody who traded in their Arcade to upgrade up to the 360 S (aka "squat"), I wish I had known of this.  The 360 S is an absolute DUST AND FINGERPRINT MAGNET.

Don't quite get the negative comparisons towards Sony's PS Move price point from some people though...

The Move controller, the PlayStation Eye, a game demo disc, and Sports Champions for $99.99
+ 29.99 for the Nav. Controller....  Let's call that an even 130 smackeroos  and round it up evenly, not too mention a lot of the coolest stuff was shown with two move controllers aka plus another 50 bucks, equalling up to 180 dollars US.

Like I'm no market expert but eather bundle seems pricy to me. As for me I see some new fresh IP possibilities arising from this like e.g. Dance Central... Not saying people will go like " OOOOw shit let's have a kinectimals marothon...", but still there is potential and I'd rather wait and see. Won't buy it just yet, mainly because... my sister and this goes for a lot inside the "casual" demographic will eat this kinect stuff up, look at how good Nintendogs did on DS despites DS's laughable reputation pre launch...
That's why I think the Arcade pack plus Kinect is gonna be a big seller, because you have that expansion possibilty with all the community stuff like Netflix and also the titles for X360 for the older brother whom rather likes blowing stuff up... basically the package contains something everyone can use. To me that's a sound business decision.

But ye it's just my opinion, like both motion controllers respectively, 'cause for me they tickle their own seperate part of fun receptors in my brain.

Quite expensive, but seriously at that price, I am not going to throw all hope of buying it on release, it is a fair price. I will need too see my money situation. I don't really want the game it comes with thou... I may just wait and hope they bundle it with Dance Central, that would be their best bet.
