Legendary Halo: Reach Bundle To Include Campaign Commentary

From beginning to end, owners of the 150-dollar bundle can rock out with some devs in their ears.

Unlike last time, Halo: Reach's Legendary special edition bundle doesn't come with a helmet fit for a feline. Instead, it will ship with a 10-pound, 10-inch-tall McFarlane Toys diorama of Noble Team--and that's in addition to exclusive online unlocks, a physical diary, and a smattering of documents that explores the game's fiction. But if that's not enough to get you to smack 150 dollars down on a retailer's counter with confidence, Bungie is probably hoping a bonus in-game campaign commentary track might do the trick.

Bungie busted out the news of the track on its official website earlier last week, and even dropped a few specifics about. According to the studio, around two hours of spoiler-filled audio were recorded for the track, most of it dealing with "unrevealed aspects" of Reach's production. The game's creative director Marcus Lehto, audio director Marty O'Donnell, cinematics and story lead Lee Wilson, and effects lead Steve Scott will be featured.

And for you commentary hounds out there, apparently all these guys were recorded while chilling in the same room at the same time, unlike some of the lousier DVD commentaries you may have heard.

No Caption Provided

== TEASER ==Also, if you were wondering, the seemingly short run time of the track is the end result of Bungie's "judicious editing" that is being said to deliver audio only during the game's "most impactful moments." This is also purportedly Bungie's "final word" on the series, which makes sense considering this is in fact the studio's final Halo game.

The full blurb from the website:

Go inside Bungie and get direct access to the team that created the franchise as they play through their last and most ambitious entry in series, Halo: Reach. To celebrate the event – and to commemorate those fans who picked up the Legendary Edition of Halo: Reach – Creative Director, Marcus Lehto, Audio Director and Composer, Marty O’Donnell, Cinematics and Story Lead, Lee Wilson, and Effects Lead, Steve Scott sit down together to deliver two full hours of exclusive, behind-the-scenes campaign commentary covering unrevealed aspects of Halo: Reach’s production. From concept to cutting room floor, this last look back is the final word on Halo: Reach’s development, straight from the team that built the game.

The Halo: Reach Legendary edition is currently sold-out on GameStop.com, but it's still available in stores, as well as some online retailers like Amazon.com. As is usual with these bundles, Halo: Reach LE is a limited-release thing, so, if in-game commentary or a wicked diorama are things you'd like to have, you'd probably be doing yourself a favor by pre-ordering the bundle sooner than later.

I'd get the $80 edition if it had commentary, but $150 is just too much to put down for me on one title. I'm sure the commentary will show up on YouTube or another site sooner or later...if not as DLC.

I like the commentary in the Valve games, so it could be good here too, but not $150 good... maybe $70... too bad it's not in the other versions

It is a " limited-release thing" just like with Halo 3 ...and there were tons of those sitting around for months after.

That's too bad, I'd like to hear the commentary, but I want nothing to do with the dolls. I'd probably pay five bucks to buy it on the market place, but I'm not paying an extra $90 for legendary edition.

Actually they do. There's usually a difference between the regular edition of a movie and the special edition. Granted it's not usually this big a price difference, but then, you don't also get all the other fancy crap with it.

I'm getting the regular edition. After years of collecting stuff I can't bring myself to buy something that just adds to my mess/collection. But I'm looking forward to the game either way.

I usually jump for joy when developers decide to reveal more about the inner workings of creating their stuff, and commentary is definitely one way to do it.

However, this is totally the wrong way to go about it. Commentary will not sell anyone on the Legendary edition when its $150, and besides, the vast majority of the Halo fanbase will simply not ever care to listen to it. Why isn't this offered as a downloadable extra with new copies of the game (all versions) or something instead? Seriously stupid move.

Considering that this was announced like, two weeks before the game drops, I don't think they're expecting to get sales from it. It would be cool to have it offered as a dl but im gettin the LE so its good with me.

I'd probably pay for the commentary, but not $150. Besides, already pre-ordered my Limited or whatever (the one that's $80).

After attending both Reach events at PAX I'm incredibly excited for this. I ordered the Legendary edition for me (I had to have the McFarlane sculpted statue) and the Heroic edition for my son. The announcement of the commentary just sweetened the pot immensely.

Halo 3's Legendary Edition was not a limited release, it was mass produced.
These ones are not.  They're individually numbered and already completely sold out in most places.

Expect ridiculous prices on eBay with people looking for the flaming helmet.

dude he's been traveling lighten up. He's A dude, he can't do it all. And according to my math, (you can correct me if i'm wrong, remember leap years) 100000 days ago is actually November 24th 1736 and I do not believe this story was up yet. Although i could also be wrong on that maybe some witch was  prophesizing that one day a game called halo reach will be released and the legendary sku will come  with a commentary track. If that happend then yes your statement is correct. Just sayin lighten up dude get laid or smoke some dank or somethin cause if a story being late makes you angry you got some stress problems and need to chill.

Just answered your own question.  More likely someone who buys the 150 super bundle will listen to the commentary than the throngs of 12 year olds who are gonna pick up the regular edition and just gonna play mp.

I'd pay a little extra to get the commentary, but not that much extra, and I have no interest in all the other nick-nacks that come with it.

The commentary thing is a cool idea for a bonus tho.

Besides the commentary and the crate, I really don't see why someone would spend 150$+ for a game. Im getting the halo console. Great deal and all I need is the standerd edition.

Being a crazied Halo fan, I would love to listen to the commentary after I beat the game. I just cant justify or afford for that matter, spending $150 for one game this holiday. I will be getting the game day one, and hopefully find the commentary elsewhere.
@ShaneDev said:

I agree, it should be in every version. But I guess they need more bullet points on the back of the box...

Good luck getting this in the UK - running to about £200-300 (roughly $300-400) at the moment.

Have hit my limit with special editions especially with so many good games coming up in the next few months. Did get the Dead Rising 2 edition with the DVD and syringe of Zombrex (although the Elvis last concert T-shirt was also tempting).

Somehow, I wound up preordering 2 copies of the game...  One in the Legendary bundle, one in the Reach Limited Edition 360 Consle bundle.  I'm gonna be spending £340 ($523) on Tuesday... I don't even know why I'm buying the game, I'm not exactly a big fan of the franchise...

The commentary would be nice but i'm sure it will make its way to youtube eventually
