LittleBigPlanet Rerelease Bundles In Add-Ons & A Beta

Seven add-ons and 18 user-made levels come to LittleBigPlanet's "Game of the Year" edition.

Sackboy's back, boy!
Though a shot of the box cover made its way out via retail sites last week, Sony has formally announced plans for a Game of the Year edition of Media Molecule's LittleBigPlanet. This updated version of the game hits on September 8 at a full retail price of $59.99.

And what, you might ask, will you get for this newly-full retail price? Well, in addition to the main game, you'll also get seven of the add-on packs that were released for sale via the PlayStation Network. Those seven packs are...

  • Metal Gear Solid Level Pack
  • Metal Gear Solid Costumes
  • Monsters Constumes
  • Monsters Pack
  • History Costumes
  • History Pack
  • Animals Costumes

18 additional levels will also be included. As an interesting twist, these levels will be specifically created for the new edition by 18 different players from the LBP community. Interviews with these creators will also be included.

Lastly, people that get in on this updated release will also get a voucher for the ModNation Racers beta. Seems like you'd want people who were in on LBP from day one to get in on the beta for a new game that lets players personalize a lot of the content, rather than rewarding a bunch of bandwagon jumpers, but hey, they don't come down to where I work and slap the broom out of my hands, so whatever, right? Perhaps Sony will eventually open up additional ways to get into the ModNation Racers beta, but for now, this is what SCEA's Mark Valledor has to say on that topic, courtesy of the official Sony blog:

As of right now, this is the only way in, but depending on a number of factors, this may change. It’s probably best to register on the ModNation website to be the first to hear of any news.

So if you've already gone down the LittleBigPlanet rabbit hole and don't want to spend $60 for 18 additional levels and a beta, there may be hope for you yet... well... on the beta side, anyway. Hmm... I wonder if all of this will serve to make my sealed pre-recall copy of the game worth anything...     Jeff Gerstmann on Google+

Awesome! The reasons to pick up a PS3 are starting to stack up for me. This could be fate...

I just picked LBP a few weeks ago, but it was for $40 and I only plan on downloading the MGS level pack, so I won't fret. Also, the fact that it's the best game I've played in 5 years doesn't hurt.

Ehh I had fun with some of the player made levels but I'm not into creating levels enough to justify buying this.

Cool, I guess. I love LBP but I don't need all this extra content in the first place.

I was waiting for a price drop to buy LBP, but I guess I will just buy this instead.

Another reason for me to get around to buying a PS3. That's a pretty sweet deal Media Molecule has on the go there.

You know, I always wondered why they didn't issue a standalone "level player" on PSN and the disk the creator and player.

Anyways I'm picking this up, bandwagon HO! Also, I'll probably have like at least three different beta codes for MNR like I did with the Uncharted Beta so I'll definitely post them on GB for everyone to scramble for.

I already picked up LBP last christmas, I'll download the MGS pack sometime, I wish I had those 18 levels though.

September 8? Hm, I guess I'll get this version instead.

I already have LBP. I am not quite enough of a MGS fanboy to buy it again just for that. Might have to go download it sometime though which I havent done yet.

Some would say marketing strategy.

So this is why johnee is taking so long with Future Warzone II.

Means nothing to me. Just the whole thing or something, I do not care for it.

But I have gotten some good use out of the PS3, really have!

Does anyone know if the addons will physically be in the disk or will it come with a download voucher? I'd like to know if I can rent it.

Sounds like a fantastic move!

Nice.

I sorta still want to play little big planet, maybe one's this is out I could get a regular edition cheaper.

Or maybe I'll just buy this and get some extra stuff.

This game makes me want a PS3. Hopefully there will be a price drop sometime soon.

As usual a cover thats beautiful

LBP has rather too many moments of controller-smashing annoyance for my taste. Multiple sources of instant death, awkward 3d implementation and unpredicatable, floaty jump physics make for a frustrating experience that jars badly with the charm and imagination of the art design.

I've already tested a few of those user-created levels.

That's very expensive.

I'm in the UK, so I can't really comment on the US price..  But I picked up LBP for £10.  I assumed the GoTY version would be released at budget price, £20-30 at the most.
Places here are still selling the game for just £10, and downloading all of that content wouldn't bring it close to the full retail £40.

Now, if only they could sort the price out for the PS3.

I love the way they've bundled exclusive levels from some of the community's best creators.

in the Uk you can get the original for like £10-15 everywhere, It's price dropped almost immediately after it launched... its just not very much fun after you get into the later levels... stuid checkpointing and ridiculously punishing level design for a family focussed game.

the MGS levels fare much, much better than most original levels and most of the online stuff is junk.

I bought LBP on day one when it came out last year and had a blast with it. Too bad the people that police the online for it are royal Nazis. I can understand removing copyrighted content, but taking down original creations like "World of Colour" make no sense and just pisses me off.

the game i still super broke to this day!!!
