Loco Roco 2 Hitting Stores On The Cheap

The cutesy PSP sequel will retail for a scant 20 bones. Are you ready to re-up on more happy smiling blob action?

PlayStation.Blog posted a short note today on the February 10 release of LocoRoco 2. Specifically, they unveiled the price, which shall total a mere 20 of your American dollars. That's the news!

I got to sit in on a lengthy demo session with LocoRoco 2 back at Tokyo Game Show, and Sony is certainly cramming it top to bottom with what looks like a large amount of new content. My biggest complaint about the first LocoRoco was that the basic world-tilting, blob-hopping gameplay mechanics weren't enough to hold my attention for the duration of an entire game. This time around, however, there's a ton of features and content you didn't see in the original. Here's a list of things I wrote down in my notebook during that TGS demo.

  • "4p minigame battles!"
  • "FMVs look like claymation"
  • "New quests open up when you finish levels with certain conditions"
  • "New mechanics -- bite long grass to swing on it, bite some objects to pull them out of the ground"
  • "Musical minigames"
  • "Mui house looks more interesting. Make different rooms out of collected parts, attract more Muis to house"
  • "New LocoRoco character is purple, has a mohawk, likes punk rock, 'looks like a German girl'" (developer's words, not mine)
  • "Dolphins, apes, owls, oh noes!"

(Apparently I was feverish at TGS, I don't know.)

Then again, the core mechanics--with you tilting the world with the L and R buttons to make your blog roll around--also appear to be unchanged. Is all this enough to make you want to re-up for more LocoRoco action next month? For $20, at least the barrier to entry is unimposing.

Someone let me know when a Loco Roco 2 screensaver is out.  I have it my laptop and it's a hit with my daughter and her cousins.  They call it their "movie."

I would pick it up if I still had a PSP.  Two or three games a year isn't really enough to keep a handheld going.

Great price - It's cheap enough that I can impulse buy it.

It makes sense at that price. If it comes out her at a similar price I may get it.

Hate to feel like the odd one out but I bought LocoRoco, never finished it. I liked it, it was fun, but I don't really feel like coming back for more :(

I will seriously will pay more, but $20 sounds fine. Now, if the PSP can keep up the momentum throughout the year instead of putting everything good at the beginning of the year, we may have a worthy year of Sony on our hands.

They have been, in Japan. Unfortunately for us, those xenodescriminatory idiots have apparently deigned us unworthy of such a service.

When are they going to start simultaneously releasing PSP games on physical disk and as downloads?  If this was going to be downloadable, I'd definitely bite for $20.

That price is awesome, hopefully it will be even less if it's on PSN.

I wasn't planning on picking up Loco Roco 2, but at $20 I don't think I can pass on it. I found the original game to be mildly amusing...but it got old rather fast.
