Long Suspected Dragon Age 3 Now Has Subtitle

Sequel is built on DICE's Frostbite 2 engine, ensuring better-looking blood.

Dragon Age II was not received very well by fans, putting even more pressure on Dragon Age 3.

BioWare has been talking up a third Dragon Age game for a while now, but made everything official official today with the announcement of Dragon Age 3: Inquisition.

Scheduled for a late 2013 release and (!) built upon DICE’s Frostbite 2 engine, one detail we're currently missing is what platforms Dragon Age 3: Inquisition is in development for. PC is a given, but don’t be surprised if BioWare and Electronic Arts are being coy because some platforms aren’t announced yet.

Like last generation, it’s very likely we will have a whole slew of games that come out on the current, established platforms (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3), while also getting super sized on the newer ones. Still, that’s just speculation for right now, but given the release timing, it would make a lot of sense.

“We’ve been poring over player feedback from past games and connecting directly with our fans,” said BioWare Edmonton and Montreal general manager Aaryn Flynn in the release. “They haven’t held back, so we’re not either.”

Dragon Age 3: Inquisition has reportedly been in development for more than two years.

Can't say I'm looking forward to this.

It will remain to be seen. I think for many people this is the last chance to see if they come good on promises anymore. Speaking to Aaryn's comments in particular.

The fact they're using Frostbite just makes me lose faith already.

Posted by Nightriff

Better be a return to Origins or no go for me....even then I'm very skeptical of every game they release now.

Would you rather they use their awful in house stuff or UE3 again? DA2 looked dated and plain compared to the Witcher 2. Frostbit might actually bring it up to par again.

As for the gameplay, as long as it's less repetitive and more open than the second game, I'd be happy.

If it's more like Origins I'm all for it. That game was great.

Hoping this does not turn out to be a rushed, shallow, cartoony piece of crap.

YOU CAN DO IT BIOWARE!

Posted by Unequivocable

I'm actually pretty pumped for this. Despite it's many flaws, DA2 charmed me enough to go back and replay DA:O and I think they have incredibly strong fiction and a good world. I'm hoping DA3:I has a larger more diverse world than DA2, but keeps the art style.

Well to put things in perspective, when they were promising that Mass Effect 3 will be a better balance of action and RPG than ME2 was it turned out to be even more action and even less RPG so who knows how Dragon Age 3 will turn out.

Posted by RE_Player1

I'll give this a chance when it hits the bargain bin just like Dragon Age 2. Not a bad game for $10.

Maybe this time they will learn that CTRL+C CTRL+V does not make for an enjoyable video game.

Posted by Veektarius

There's little enough the party-based Western fantasy RPG market for this to make some money regardless of the impression left by the second installment.

Posted by BigChief

Pfffffft. I fully expect this game to be dogshit.

Posted by Draugen

Yes!

I don't care what anyone thinks. I found DA2 immensely enjoyable, despite it's many flaws.

This is cause for happiness.

I'm looking forward to this. Would have preferred they called it "Dragon Age 3: Reckoning".

Posted by mustachioeugene

Are we still mad at Bioware? I disliked DAII, but actually thought ME3 was ok.

Posted by MeatSim

I didn't hate DA2 so I am potentially up for another one.

Jade Empire 2!!!!

Posted by The_Ruiner

I hope they bring back the origin stories and kill the wave based survival combat...

Posted by reelife

lets hope bioware makes something good this time.

Posted by Driam

Loved DA2, would be psyched about this one if it wasn't years off.

Edited by MarkWahlberg

Does this mean it'll be the first RPG with destructible environments? Because that would be nuts.

I can't tell if you're joking or not...

did not like DA2 so I wont be looking forward to this. First EA announces a sequel to Army of Two now this WHY EA WHY

This has me considering upping my donation on Project Eternity to a deluxe version.

I like being optimistic, and let's face it. Dragon age origins was fantastic.

They totally understand that dragon age 2 had a huge reaction to it's more limited scope, short length, and recycled elements. They either fix it, or they don't .Imo, mass effect 3 was a far higher quality sequel to mass effect 2 - than dragon age 2 was to dragon age origins. We know bioware can put together a great sequel. Will they? I don't know. Time will tell.

Also, even a corrupt, console focused bioware game is better than a lot of other games out there. They still know how to tell an emotional and involving story.

Jade Empire 2!!!!

That would be amazing. I'd much rather have that than another Dragon Age game. Jade Empire is such a fantastic and under-appreciated game.

Posted by StarvingGamer

I can't wait. DA2 and ME3 were great games, despite what the sheeple might try to tell you.

Posted by koolaid39

I didn't hate DA2. I definitely think it took a step back from DAO in terms of repetitiveness and game play, but the characters and the fiction are really great in my opinion.

I too could totally go for this!

“We’ve been poring over player feedback from past games and connecting directly with our fans,” - Is this a new EA / bioware catchphrase?

Posted by scalpel

Dragon Age: Origins was the 2nd best game of the 00's. I doubt they could top it, but as long as it's better than DA 2 I'll play it.

Posted by TommyH

Here is to hoping the team team making this one goes back to basics and makes a real follow up to Origins. DA 2 was dissapointing to put it mildly.

Posted by cbarnes86

@StarvingGamer: Yay! Someone else who actaully liked DA2 and ME3

Posted by haggis

I think DA2 was judged too harshly, but only because the original DA was such a great game. I didn't hate DA2, but I do hope they move back in the direction of the original. I still played DA2 through twice, so I'm definitely picking this up either way.

Nah they were both terrible despite what blind Bioware fanboys might try to tell you.

Tit for tat. I don't actually think that. But that's what you get for labelling people who didn't like it sheeple in such a shallow fashion.

Posted by evanbower

Since ME3 is making its way to Wii U, that probably means DA3 is a given.

Posted by Sporkbane

Origins was fantastic, even though the graphics weren't the best. Still haven't played DA2 and probably won't unless I can get it for about $5. Hopefully Bioware can return to form. Honestly, as long as they don't make such a weak ending like ME3, they are really strong story tellers. A lot of people forget that the reason the ending to ME3 was such a let down was because the rest of the game was so entertaining; At least for me, that is.

Here's to hoping!

I agree. They both could have been better, but compared to most games they were good.

Fireballs flying over your head never sounded so real.

Posted by casper_

cool im cautiously optimistic and i think this a good chance for bioware to gain a lot of trust/respect back.

or totally blow it.

Posted by Tarsier

DA2 was an affront against humanity and i hope they realized it and know what they need to do to make a game that lives up to the first .. . . COUGH not an 8 month development cycle. . .

Posted by JoeyRavn

With that subtitle, I can't help feeling they'll be continuing Hawke's story. Either with him/her or with a new character, but the ending of DAII was pretty clear, regardless of which side you fight for.

Yeah. I couldn't care less about this game...

Posted by Lazyaza

Between the letdowns of DA2 and ME3 my expectations are pretty low for all future Bioware games. If DA3 has more than 2 dungeon palettes I'll be impressed.

I personally loved DA2, so I can't wait to see more of this universe.

Milk it, baby.

Posted by WJist

What I want to know is if this will be the last of Bioware's Import Save feature/playing older games in the series impacts story beats in the new game?

Posted by ArbitraryWater

I don't totally hate Dragon Age 2 like some people do, so I guess I am interested?
