Lord British is in Space (And You're Not)

I assume he's there to test the effects of zero gravity on lengthy hair braids.

General British, seen here plotting his escape.
General British, seen here plotting his escape.
Richard Garriott of Ultima and, more recently, Tabula Rasa fame, was launched into space on Sunday morning via a Russian Soyuz TMA-13. According to a CNN story on the launch, Garriott paid $30 million to take the trip, a sum that was partially funded by sponsors. He'll be conducting experiments for some of those sponsors while on-board the international space station. Lord British will remain on the station for around 10 days before returning home to Earth.

In addition to developing games, Garriott also has an interest in a space tourism company called Space Adventures Ltd., which has organized flights for a handful of other supremely rich dudes.

I have no real joke here--I just think it's awesome that the guy who made Ultima, a man I met once or twice, is totally in space right now. Meanwhile, I'm here in Tokyo, which is sort of like space, only with more cats.

dagas: too bad you're on the EU server, I'm on the US West coast server (Orion). Level 34 Sniper, although CoD4 and World in Conflict have been holding more of my attention lately.

Actually, that description of Tokyo is pretty accurate from what I've heard.  Also, lots of porn everywhere.

Seriously, it's just raining pornography in that country.

Wait, that wasn't a joke?
I thought of it as nothing but advertisement. All of this promotion for tabula rasa "oh we will send your words into space" stuff. So that was real? Huh.

He is wearing his Tabula Rasa uniform. I'm playing TR and it's a great game. I don't understand why it never became more popular, although there seems to be quite a lot of people at least on the EU server.

Its too bad he hasnt done anything good since U8, or maybe even U7-2.  Wish he would get his game back!  Would love just an old style U7 type game!

Is it just me, or does what he's wearing in that picture look really comfortable, as well as awesome?

I'm in space.

Well I'm not but Space Adventures Ltd. is such an amazing name for a company. A ticket to space today costs $30 million but in 20 years it'll be like 4 bucks for a return trip. Which we'll all complain about being too expensive on our way to our jobs driving moon buggies.

Well if you're going to spend $30 million . . . . I can't argue with spending it that way.
