Mass Effect 2's Stolen Memory DLC Available Nowish

Interstellar cat burglar ready to join Shepard's galactic wrecking crew for a nominal fee.

BioWare posted an update on their Mass Effect 2 site yesterday, stating that "tomorrow"--which if my math is correct should at this point mean "today"--you'll be seeing the availability of Stolen Memory, the first substantive paid DLC for the game so far. The pack is out on the same platforms as the original game, 360 and PC.

Near as I can tell, the 560 MS points ($7) asking price gets you the shady con artist/cat burglar Kasumi Goto for your squad, as well as a new custom mission to play through in order to ensure her loyalty. But don't take my word for it; watch this video to get a glimpse of what's in there.

I can't say I'm quite ready to go back to Mass Effect 2 just yet. A new squad member would be pretty slick if I were still plowing through the main game, but once you've done just about everything there is to do, new crew members aren't good for much. But I figure Kasumi might just make an appearance in my eventual Insanity playthrough, right before Mass Effect 3 rolls around (whenever that is).

Who's in for this one now?

I wonder if these DLC characters will have any bearing in the 3rd game, whether you downloaded them or not. If they only appear when downloaded, this makes a strong case for me just to get this in preparation for ME3 (and the insanity play through).

So more dissapointing DLC for an already dissapointing game? This one mission costs almost a 6th of the games retail price. Thats fucking bullshit.

Anyone got the DLC and can say if it's good/worth the money?

BioWare is painfully awful at DLC, would be lovely to see if they learned their lesson.

If they are going by their standards I'd guess on the following:

  • New character, dull as fuck and with a rushed out backstory
  • New mission with new items and consisting of 95% of rehashed main game combat/enemies
  • Overpriced as hell, overall content about 15 minutes long
  • No overall impact on the game/universe

Please say that I'm wrong, would love me some more ME2 goodness.

The other DLC isn't free.  It's being subsidized by everyone that's paying $15 for the Cerberus Network, after saving $5 on a used copy of ME2 at GameStop.  I assure you, if they were not charging anyone for Cerberus Network access, we would have had to pay for launch day Zaeed too.

I really want this DLC because I'm interested in all things Mass Effect ( I've read the books and I'm gonna buy the comics) but I wanna hear some impressions first, maybe even a review

It's already april 7th here. They are no doubt going on US time however, which still means it should be out.

I did everything and got all the achievements almost two months ago. I am a huge Bioware and mass Effect fanboy, but I really don't feel like playing any more M.E.2 any time soon.

I don't find these one mission DLCs very tempting. I don't want to keep coming back to ME2 once every month or so just to play a mission for 30min - 1hr only to then stop playing again. I'd much prefer a full expansion.

You're trying way too hard to hold this against BioWare. As someone who did buy Mass Effect 2 new, I'm plenty content with the fact that I've received a whole bunch of content for free, and it's being released on a relatively consistent basis.

The characters and loyalty missions in general were the highlight of Mass Effect 2--getting more of that for $7 does not sound like a particularly poor deal. And realistically, if someone cares enough about Mass Effect to download the DLC, they probably bought it new.

Couldn't agree more with this post. Plus, they were pretty clear about Cerberus Network before the game came out... so how anyone could think that the $5 they were saving was worth it on a used copy has only themselves to blame.

I'm going to wait until they're finished with all the DLC, then buy it all and play it with the new character and stuff that they will eventually release. I haven't touched the Firewalker yet so that will be a nice little bonus too.

Just finishing up my PC Mass Effect run now (played it on 360, 2 on PC - want a carry-over save for my 2nd play through - a shame I didn't do this first). Probably going to go right into ME2. Perfect timing.

Awesome, and I love all the haters telling lies like you have to pay $15 for cerberus network, or it is a 10 minute mission. Bioware owns other game companies when it comes to story-telling, characters, gameplay, and RPG elements in combination as well as by themselves.

Cry more. It will be great when this game wins GOTY, and all the crying bitches will still be hating. Bioware tries to give people free DLC through the cerberus network, and then people still whine yet buy the call of duty $15 map packs, horse armor, and other overpriced shit. Just goes to show you how idiotic these people are.

I just started another playthrough the other day, figuring I'd take it slow and spread it out while I'm waiting for some new releases, so this is timed right for me. I'm just past the initial two dossiers, so it's still early enough to make a difference. I'll probably pick it up tomorrow. Let's hope it's worth the price.

First of all Bioware being best at what they do has nothing to do with the fact that only one new character is not a great incentive to go back to the game once you've beat it. Making one of the greatest game of this generation does not grant you the right to demand money for shitty add-ons. Second of all, the Cerberus Network dlc has been pretty much worthless, with the exception of Zaeed, and while this was was free, Stolen Memory is not.

I gotta say though, using that horse armor argument like 4 years after the fact was pretty funny.

I agree it makes no sense to add squad members at this point. They need to make a killer mission and throw in the squad member as an extra. I would love to see a new little story arc or something in the next DLC, nothing mind shattering but maybe catching an intergalactic criminal or something.

If you didn't see the inherent emotional value with the "Normandy Crash Site" DLC then you are dead inside.  Not all of the Cerberus Network stuff is worthless, you get a special armor set aswell as a deadly long range shotgun.  No doubt that there will be even more free content in the coming months.

If you don't think a brand new character is worth $7 then you don't have to buy it.  I know i'm not gonna convince you otherwise so i'll leave it at that.

Sweet, since i'm (like Brad said) plowing through the main story of ME2, trying to complete every quest another quest and team member should fit in nicely. I'll be buying this after i get the points.

I played the DLC just now, finished it. Satisfied with it.

It's one of the more fun loyalty missions I think, though what disappointed me I'll say in spoilers.

Had this had come like a month ago, I would have been woo-hoo! But I'm hooked on FF13 at the mo, so I'll have to wait till I finish that before I can dive back onto the Normandy. I'm sure I'll love it though!

Really like Kasumi and liked her mission. Gave us a peek at some Earth history, and I loved the Bond vibe the mission had. Also kinda refreshing not having a big decision at the end.

Kasumi herself is probably the most light-hearted Mass Effect character in existence, jumping her up way high on my favorite party member list. About time the Normandy got a gossip. Though you can't have a direct conversation with her, like Zaeed, from what I can tell she has just as much dialogue as other characters (again, like Zaeed). Her Shadow Strike is useful, but I doubt it's effectiveness on Hardcore or Insanity (playing around with her on Veteran, myself).

Like Jeff says, I'm not quite at the point where I want to play through Mass Effect 2 again, so one short mission isn't really worth my time.. yet. I enjoyed Mass Effect 2 a lot, so when 3 rolls around I'll just play through it again, probably with this new character. Or, if there is an expansion-esque pack with a good amount of play time, I'll try her out then, assuming the two will be compatible. But at the moment there simply isn't enough interest in the game to pull me into another play through.

It was fine for what it was, the Firewalker DLC had more to do than this one, but at least this had some new speech.  If anything it's nice to finally see the last part of the ship opened up, especially when it's the bar.

My Xbox runs very slowly right now, I tried my brand new copy of FF13 and it pauses every few seconds. Im sure I will get it when I finish up FF13, but at this pace it may take YEARS

Played through it over the weekend, and i really enjoyed it! It has a good mix of conversation vs fire fights.
