Mass Effect 2's Stolen Memory DLC Available Nowish

Interstellar cat burglar ready to join Shepard's galactic wrecking crew for a nominal fee.

BioWare posted an update on their Mass Effect 2 site yesterday, stating that "tomorrow"--which if my math is correct should at this point mean "today"--you'll be seeing the availability of Stolen Memory, the first substantive paid DLC for the game so far. The pack is out on the same platforms as the original game, 360 and PC.

Near as I can tell, the 560 MS points ($7) asking price gets you the shady con artist/cat burglar Kasumi Goto for your squad, as well as a new custom mission to play through in order to ensure her loyalty. But don't take my word for it; watch this video to get a glimpse of what's in there.

I can't say I'm quite ready to go back to Mass Effect 2 just yet. A new squad member would be pretty slick if I were still plowing through the main game, but once you've done just about everything there is to do, new crew members aren't good for much. But I figure Kasumi might just make an appearance in my eventual Insanity playthrough, right before Mass Effect 3 rolls around (whenever that is).

Who's in for this one now?

Her loyalty missions looks to be worth the price more than Kasumi herself.

I agree with Bradley.  I'll go back to it when there's more substantial DLC than this. It probably won't last an hour.  Bring it, Bioware.

I just beat the game! Would of probably picked this up, but I'm not going to be replaying it soon.  Maybe when this DLC drops in price I will pick it up.

I'm in the middle of my Insanity playthrough, so I'll definitely be picking this up today.  I hope she's useful in combat because combat on Insanity can get pretty hairy!

If I wasn't so busy with other games right now and if my brother didn't have my copy of Mass Effect 2, I would probably be downloading this right now.

We got two weapons, Zaeed, Normandy Crash Site, an armor set, and a set of vehicle missions for free.

Ehhh, I've put all the time I want to into ME2. Even if I play it again, I'm not finding it lacking in content or needing another party member (there were so many I never used to begin with).

I just got through recruiting Tali in my game, so I'm still in the throes.  I'm oddly skeptical about this even though I was fine with Pinnacle Station.  I'd love to see a review of this before I buy it.

Maybe not permanent but there are sales.  Fallout 3 DLC was half price a while ago.  It could also be something like Gears 2: All Fronts where they put all of the DLC in a package for a lower price.  This thing has 1 achievement, they're probably planning on doing a bunch of them.

Not a heavy toll on my wallet, but still...

Oh well, I'm going back to Mass Effect 2 every so often so I can really (And I mean REALLY) slowly complete the insanity difficulty for the sole purpose of the DLC and achievements.
My logic is: If I go through the game VERY slowly, and whilst doing so, I buy the DLC straight away, because it's still appropriate and helpful to me, since I'm still playing through the main game I save myself a LOT of time from having to playthrough it again and again, JUST to experience the DLC.

ME2 is a fantastic game, but I've only got a finite amount of time to play games with. This's a good solution to that problem. :-)

I'll probably pick it up, but might wait for other DLC to be released.  The website seems to imply 2 or 3 more characters/missions to come.  I'm half way through insanity play through, but I took a break to play Dragon Age.

I'm guessing this will be a few minutes long like all other Bioware expansions and DLC.

Bring down the sky: 5 bucks = 1 hour
Pinnacle Station: 5 bucks = 1 hour (and a miserable one at that)
Warden's Keep: 7 bucks = 45 minutes
Return to Ostagar: 5 bucks = 1 hour
Dragon Age Awakening: 40 bucks = 10 hours

I guess I'll eventually buy it, but seriously, I always feel like I paid way too much for their DLC.

That pretty much sums up how I feel about it.  DLC looks good but I think I'll wait til they release a few more missions before picking it up.

Wait, I'm confused. I can download the DLC and then just fly the Normandy to the mission, even on my cleared save, right? I don't have to start a new play through or anything dumb like that?

This would have been cool had I not already finished the game twice. I'll play it at some point though, but it's not enough to pull me back right away. Loved the game, but I rather they made a large expansion or focused on ME3 rather than these small 30-60min DLC's.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as Brad.  I've beaten the game and all the side missions, I don't really care about an extra character right now.  I do think that mission looks interesting, but if the other loyalty missions are evidence of this then $7 is a lot to ask.

I assume it's 'free' if you already have cerberus? Not that it matters, since I beat the game the week it came out and I have no interest in going back to play game content that they couldn't bother to include at the time.

I think 560 MS points is a fair price considering the amount of free DLC so far, def ready for more ME2.

I just checked recently and on my Xbox it still is NOT out yet.

As I said in the other thread, god damn Bioware couldn't you guys have had the courtesy to at least keep up with the rest of the world so we may actually get to play it before midnight maybe?

Either way when it comes out, I'll likely have it on my mess-around save, now I completed the game I just go round exploring with nothing better to do.

You don't have to start a new game, if you already completed the main story then you can just pick it up from there.  The continuity may be a little messed up but atleast they give you the option.

While I would definitely appreciate more substantial expansion-like DLC than this, an additional party member and new missions should be enough to give anyone who remotely liked ME2 a reason to get back in the action, if only for a limited period of time. I can't really understand the "this looks nice but I've already played the game" sentiment expressed by a lot of people; if you liked the game you'll want a few more hours out of it, right? Sure, there are other games to play (I recently played through FFXIII, am enjoying GOW3 at the moment and got SMT: Strange Journey on the DS and GTA: Chinatown Wars on the PSP, so I pretty much know all there is to know about "having moved on"), but no one is too busy to squeeze in 1,5-2 hours more of gametime with one of this year's greatest releases - even if one has already (like I have) S-ranked the game and played through it on both Normal and Insanity.

More excitement for Kasumi is hereby mandated for everyone (except if the DLC turns out to suck, in which case I'm going to look slightly ridiculous). Assuming control of all whiny jaded bastards...

...speaking of whiny; WHERE IS MY DLC?

I'm not sure if a new squad mate is enough on its own to pull me back into ME2. Why isn't BioWare doing some post-main-plot DLC like they did for Dragon Age? Are they just unwilling to retcon players' experiences?

@End_Boss:  I always wondered whether BioWare seemed to be focusing too hard on Dragon Age, so far we've only had DLC that seems useless to most people overall with Mass Effect saves that are already post-story completion.

Part of me is not sure to be quite honest. If it's anything like Zaeed, then the mission will be interesting but you get little to none continued character development outside of missions which was the main annoyance.

We'll see I guess.
