Mega Man 9 Hates Me

But that's OK, because it's only fueling me to hate Mega Man 9 right back.

Want good proof that your gaming skills have gone completely soft in this era of regenerating health and constant checkpoints? Look no further than Capcom's latest digital release, Mega Man 9. It's out now on the Wii and PS3, and Xbox 360 owners will be getting a chance to throw their controllers out a window next Wednesday.

I finished Mega Man, Mega Man 2, and Mega Man 3 before sort of losing interest in the original series, mostly because I always felt that Rush was a weak addition. Upon hearing that a lot of the charged-shot and sliding techniques of the later games were being removed in favor of a more pure experience, I was excited about Mega Man 9.

But after playing it for 45 minutes last night, I'm pretty sure I never want to play it ever again. Because I can't handle it. And I'm not afraid to admit that. Sometimes you have to know when to walk away.

Here's video proof of my inability to handle it. The video has cursing in it. So watch out for that.

If you're looking for some sort of assistance for Mega Man 9, Giant Bomb Friendly User of the Moment, sloppyjoe, put together this basic guide.

poor poor jeff

Posted by soul101

I do the same thing :)

Posted by ahoodedfigure

This website has cursing, so watch out for that.

Good to know they built it with the retro difficulty in mind.  I never could get past the lack of angle fire in Mega Man...

Posted by HazBazz

Brad will be reviewing it because he's better at games

Posted by myketuna

You know, I was laughing at this for the most part. But I felt your pain, Jeff. I really did. Let's all be real for a second, guys. We've all been there. I salute you, Jeff Gerstmann.

Posted by Cynical_M

That was very entertaining...It's nice to see other people get totally pissed at games...

Posted by HumanityPlague

My respect/admiration of you has grown leaps and bounds with this video.  It's always cool seeing plowing through a game.

Posted by Death_Burnout

:S i felt like jeff was gunna pop out the screen and rip my damn head off!

Oh and that wasnt Alex, i think that was Brendan (sp?) his roommate (i think?)

HA-A-A-A-R-D

Jeff, It's okay. We still love you.

Tried the demo today and didn't make it half way... I'm turning bad as years pass... OMG this game is hard! cheers! :)

Jeff gives a crazy Howard Dean yell at 2:58.

This was outstanding!

Spent four hours, FOUR HOURS on this with my ex-roommate and we were able to beat exactly two of the bosses...
This game is HARD. VERY hard. Within the next hour we were able to beat most of the bosses, finally discovering their weaknesses. But still! Even WITH their weaknesses...this game is HARD.

Posted by President_Evil

Jeff's anger is quite amusing, it reminds me of my own experiences with the original games, in which I would literally chew on my NES controller in boundless frustration.

I was 6, and Megaman 2 was DAMN HARD.

That was awesome, props to you Jeff.  I think we all feel your pain.

Posted by VicRattlehead

lol i was getting pretty pissed of playing the trail version....that god dam elephant and his god dam ball :|

Posted by SuperJoe

i heard the wilhelm scream

Posted by deaux

ahoodedfiugre: I'm not sure what you mean.  You could fire in 8 directions in Mega Man 2.

Jeff & others: have you tried it on the Wii with the classic controller?  If it's really like the old ones, a better D-pad should help.

Posted by mudkip9000

I'm actually pretty good at this stuff. I can get frustrated, but never to the point where I want to stop playing.. However, if it's glitches or poor game design that's killing me, to no fault of my own, that's when I start yelling.  I had Jeff's reaction while playing Mercs 2.

Posted by jlaudio7

i LOL'd. Im on the fence over which version to get.

Posted by Junpei

played the demo and it tore me apart. And as someone who has beaten most of the original line up of Mega Man games I'm not sure if it's harder or if I've gotten worse.

Posted by DukeTogo

I was able to beat games like Last Battle, Rygar, Mega Man 1-3, Castlevania, Target Earth and others with the limited (sometimes one) lives you got back in the olde days.  Now I'm lucky if I make it past the first level.

File this under "Be careful what you wish for".

That first few seconds says it all.

I say nearly the exact same shit as you. "Oh yeah that's fair" "Wonderful." "Oh, great. Yeah that was cool. *mumble*fucking game*mumble*." Although instead of dropping the controller, I've set up a nice big wall of bed that I can just throw the controller to, so I get to throw the stupid controller (because it's clearly the controllers fault for me losing, clearly), and be able to pick it up and start playing after yelling for a moment. This rarely happens, although I've noticed a lot of EA games and LucasArts/previously owned LucasArts games have been pissing me off as of late. Mercs 2, Battlefield: Bad Company, Force Unleashed and so on. Those games are far too easy in places, then kick your ass in the worst ways >:(

mega man games are definitely hard, but that is most of their charm too. it's definitely for a fixed crowd of people.

Also, I'm just now realizing how AWESOME the music in this game is going to be. Come on OCT 1st!!!

Posted by BS

hahaha classic
I do the same reactions

Posted by Oni

That was me as well doing TFU on Sith Master. I feel your pain. I'm not sure if I should still get this :p

I feel your pain Jeff. It took me a good 45 minutes to even deal with the fact that I was dying so easily. 2:45 min and I still need to beat Hornet, Tornado, and Concrete Man. Those friggin' elephants and their huge balls kick my ass every time. I still get so frutrated trying to kill that stupid flower on the rotating platforms that I exit out of Hornet Man's stage and cry a little. And it's cool to see Mega Man's hair and all, but why does his helmet go back on when you need to continue? What a waste of bolts.

Posted by Dark_Link142

I'm really not one who gets frustrated easily so I'm not really getting upset while playing this game. It's really good though and hard. I've only gotten 4 bosses so far but I'm having a blast!

Posted by DeepSpace9MM

Man, I was doing the same thing last night. I couldn't stop playing though. I think I sat there for 3 hours and only finished 3 bosses. F**K Jewel Man's stage!

Posted by sloppyjoe

yay, i'm on the post :)

Jeff's the greatest Mega Man 9 player what ever lived!

Posted by PeldonPeldon

Oh, that was so very good.  And, "Don't stand in front of the house and rub yourself." are words to live by.  That's sage advice, Jeff.

Thanks for the laugh.

Now that... that was a classic

00:02:58 - Greatest Bruce Lee impersonation ever. "Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw!"

00:03:28 - No, wait, NOW is the Greatest Bruce Lee impersonation ever.

Posted by PLWolf

Glad to see others feeling my pain of not being able to play games as well as when they were younger.
I think I'll just download Mega Man 2 on the Virtual Console and call it a day. lol

Posted by Smallville123

HAHA!!!!!......Blank stare....priceless

Posted by Dalai

Well there's your problem... break out the Wii version.  A better D-pad might work wonders.

Nah, still hard as fuck!

Posted by ImperiousRix

This video is me playing every other game that I own.
Jeff actually stays surprisingly cool considering some of the cheap deaths I'm sure he was experiencing.

Posted by ValiantGoat

lol, I love when Jeff goes to the "splash woman" stage, good stuff

Posted by NinjaHunter

Jeff, it looks like you pulled a Brad.

Posted by darkjester74

Priceless!  5 stars!!  :)
