More Details on Dawnguard's PC, PS3 Release Soon

Details on the expansion coming to PS3 and PC probably aren't far off.

No Caption Provided

There should be news on the PlayStation 3 and PC release of Dawnguard, the first downloadable expansion to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, “later this week,” according to a company representative.

Players have become antsy since realizing the 30-day exclusivity window on Xbox 360 had come and gone without any news on Dawnguard’s availability on other platforms. It didn’t help that Bethesda Game Studios was unable to produce a response to quell people’s fears other than “wait.”

Bethesda VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines has taken the most heat on Twitter, but has continued to allude to impending news, with the most telling tease coming earlier this morning.

“Nothing has been said/announced about it,” said Hines today. “We should have info later this week.”

It’s probably not a coincidence QuakeCon is later this week, an event Bethesda is now heavily involved in.

@HadesTimes: Maybe the PS3 version, but for PC, probably waiting to do it at QuakeCon.

If Bethesda is using this time to get Dawnguard to run as smoothly as possible on PC/PS3, I'm more okay with the wait. Not totally okay, but more okay.

Thanks xbox chumps for beta testing Dawnguard for us.

I wasn't gonna say anything, but I was thinking the same :P

We'd all like to think that Bethesda is using the time to smooth things out on other platforms. But we know they aren't, otherwise vanilla Skyrim wouldn't be so schizophrenic in the framerate department.

Dawnguard will be rife with Bethesda jank like everything else they release.

Why would you do that? A series of poor decisions made right there.

Owning a 360 in the first place is a poor decision, don't try to lure others into that PR crap micro$oft and we-didn't-bugthesda are trying to sucker people into.

Timed exclusives are at fault here.

My choice of platform does not concern you.

@Sooty: And is sold on Steam, where Microsoft gets no cut.

I know Microsoft get no cut but it's still disgusting to do, I highly doubt anyone is playing Skyrim on 360 at a lower res, with no mods and worse FPS just so they can play the DLC. It's not gonna sway people to play on 360 over PC.

You underestimate bro gamers and the compelling power of the bro gamer console.

Lots of people have been playing it already on the 360, and they aren't all 'bros'... I don't own the 360 version but if I did I'd also be playing it. Instead I've been playing the base game on my PC for a bit again.

what i believe it is stating is that people who own on pc will not go and buy for 360 or if they own both they wouldnt buy it for 360 over pc due to lower graphics and no mods as thats a waste. Otherwise if you have a 360 and the game why wouldnt u get it if you didnt have the pc option. But besides that i will own both ps3 and pc darksouls dlc as soon as it launches as i will play both simultaneously.

I own both and play both, they have different use cases. Minecraft for 360 was the biggest hit at a LAN I went to recently, mostly because of it's easy of jumping in with the splitscreen. Have you ever played Minecraft on a 50+ inch tv? How about 3 of those tvs, with beer and about 10-11 friends all having a good time? You don't come close to that sort of experience with the game on PC, at most you get a few pals over the internet talking through vent.

I very much wish it was easy to transfer content from both versions though, for obvious reasons. I have done the most interesting things building wise on the PC because I do it solo, I like building wood houses in mountains. http://djjoejoe.tumblr.com/tagged/Minecraft

I'm not sure if you're serious, but if you are, the IGN and Gamespot forums are likely better places for your kind of forum-goer. I own every console and a pretty solid PC--I wholeheartedly support every manufacturer (aside from maybe Nintendo's non-handheld efforts in the over the past 6 years). Bethesda games are almost always broken on PS3. With the lack of mod support coupled with how their games breed thriving mod communities, I'd even call the Xbox 360 version of their games inferior to the PC version.

Now please grow up. Thank you.

Zero problems with your platform of choice. Farking love my PS3. Just saying that committing to Bethesda's sloppy PS3 versions of their games is a bit of a poor decision.

How is that HIS poor decision? Devs are at fault here, as they are asking $60 for a sloppy port on the PS3, they should at least release a version that's on par with 360 version. That's not the buyer's fault for "sticking with a sloppy port".

They are both at fault. It's his fault for supporting a shitty port by making the purchase and not looking into the launch reviews/reports to see how that particular version of the game was performing. It's obviously also their fault for not putting out the same quality of product on all available platforms. Hopefully all this negative buzz will entice Bethesda to put a solid team behind their next PS3 release.

Meh. The shine has worn off the DLC for me since it's been out yet I can't play. Exclusives may help developers, but they're a slap in the face to fans. I'd venture a guess that Bethesda didn't even need Microsoft's money for the exclusive since the game did so well.

Oh for the love of all that is good in the world...

I can't believe I'm going to bother wasting my time explaining this to you: I did not have a very capable PC at the time. Bethesda games I spend a long time playing, preferable during long sessions of play. Therefore I enjoy playing them from my couch. The PS3 is the only console I own, so that's what I purchased my Bethesda games for. Since then I've actually gotten a job, a decent PC, connected that PC to my TV, and I've acquired both a bluetooth keyboard and the means to eventually connect my Dualshock 3 to my PC wirelessly as well. My future Bethesda purchases are going to be on the PC because I am interested in the mod community.

I do not regret my decision and I do not consider it a poor decision because I got to enjoy hundreds of hours of Fallout 3 (and all the DLC), New Vegas (and all the DLC) and Skyrim. My only issue was having to wait for the DLC, which was a major bummer.

Now let me rephrase my original statement:

Timed exclusives are the issue here, my choice of platform has nothing to do with that.

It's not fair that I should have to wait for content because of my platform of choice, regardless of how you feel about that version.

@Galiant: It sucks but that's how things work, sometimes games are made for all platforms and sometimes they are not. Sometimes they are on some for a while, then on others later. There are plenty of platform exclusives to go around here and there, Microsoft has really had it's foot in the timed exclusive DLC arena for... since the 360 I guess.

Waiting for Dawnguard to arrive on my PC has allowed me a few hours of replaying Skyrim again, checking out some of the newer mods (not as many new ones as I'd hoped, but I've never thought highly of the bethesda game mod scene anyways... leave my bodies dirty and my women clothed and unable to preform fellatio on my player character thanks.) Great part about Skyrim so far for me is that eventhough I'd put a good 100+ hours into the game on release almost all the 20 or so recent hours I've been playing have been mostly new content and areas, it's suprising the scope of content that I was happily unaware of eventhough I pretty much trekked the entire landmass of Skyrim many times. Waiting for DLC sucks, especially when it's something you're really looking forward to but you shouldn't be sad because it's very very apparent the DLC will in fact exist elsewhere soon enough, ideally slightly polished from a patch or two before it comes as well (which already seems the case with the recent patch I got from steam).

Anyhoo, I poked in to see if there was news of Dawnguard, I see there really isn't much so I will leave you guys to it :)

I recently came back to Skyrim, and it felt like "coming home". I will most likely look close at this DLC when it's available. :)

My A+ cert class from when I was in highschool hosts lan parties a few times a months and minecraft is usually the choice of game so I have played with 10+ people all drinking and enjoying building and destroying and punching pigs galore.. + no mods to make the game look better sucks due to already putting hundreds of hours into that damn game.

Just in case no one has mentioned it yet you can sort of buy Dawnguard on steam like... right now.
