More Details on Dawnguard's PC, PS3 Release Soon

There should be news on the PlayStation 3 and PC release of Dawnguard, the first downloadable expansion to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, “later this week,” according to a company representative.

Players have become antsy since realizing the 30-day exclusivity window on Xbox 360 had come and gone without any news on Dawnguard’s availability on other platforms. It didn’t help that Bethesda Game Studios was unable to produce a response to quell people’s fears other than “wait.”

Bethesda VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines has taken the most heat on Twitter, but has continued to allude to impending news, with the most telling tease coming earlier this morning.

“Nothing has been said/announced about it,” said Hines today. “We should have info later this week.”

It’s probably not a coincidence QuakeCon is later this week, an event Bethesda is now heavily involved in.

I'm so sick of waiting for DLC, since I play most of my Bethesda games on PS3 =/

It did the exact same thing to me, and then I read the title as stating that the DLC was out this week and got confused.

This is one of the few game-related things that your Live subscription money goes towards.

I think we should be thankful that the game is available on platform of choice... remember even as recently as last gen (PS2/Xbox/GC) a lot.. and i mean A LOT of games were exclusives.... I would much rather have Timed Exclusives than permanent exclusives..

Plus.. another way to think about it... we all love Skyrim right? We all love Bethesda for their role and ability to deliver experiences like Elder Scrolls to us? Well timed exclusive means they got more money for their work.... isnt that great? That money can go into the next Elder Scrolls game... :)

Eh, it's been so long I can't muster the will to even want to buy it anyway. Especially since we already know all the features and beats from the 360 version.

I'll pick it up sale at XMas during the Steam sale. If Bethesda can't be bothered to release it in the timely manner on the PC, I can't be bothered to pay full price.

If I got the S rank in the game before it crashed on me with one achievement to go, I would be getting this, since that happened though I'll probably skip it unless it goes on sale.

I can't imagine the exclusivity making Bethesda too much more money either.

I know Microsoft get no cut but it's still disgusting to do, I highly doubt anyone is playing Skyrim on 360 at a lower res, with no mods and worse FPS just so they can play the DLC. It's not gonna sway people to play on 360 over PC.

Well, I have both versions and I really don't care which version I'm playing. Skyrim is awesome, either way.

I see the video game industry has learned from the Starcraft 2 scene with announcements of announcements.

It's for all the usual reasons, haven't been able to afford a great PC and so on. Since then I've actually gotten a job and bought a pretty awesome PC, so in the future I'll probably play my Bethesda games on that PC rather than on my PS3 - even more so since I've hooked up my Dualshock 3 to my PC and connected my PC to my TV so I can still play from the couch.

Not to mention not having to wait so damn long because of timed exclusives.

I've been using the sentence "Just let me buy your game." far too often lately.

If Bethesda is using this time to get Dawnguard to run as smoothly as possible on PC/PS3, I'm more okay with the wait. Not totally okay, but more okay.

There's plenty of awesome mod content to keep PC players busy until Dawnguard hits that platform. Lord knows I haven't exhausted the range of mods yet. Hell, a lot of things Dawnguard adds, like dragonbone weapons, are already available via mods. Speaking of: I think the mod versions of dragonbone weapons look a lot better than the Dawnguard versions.

Why should anybody fear anything? Do you really think that Bethesda would just give every other player and their respective wallets on the Playstation and PC the finger for no reason?

This DLC will come, and apparently, there will be an announcement soon. Be patient.

So I'm guessing the PC/PS3 version of this is SO BROKEN and they are trying desperately to make it ready for primetime. But hey it could all be marketing spin, who knows... LOL

So completely true, and one of the reasons I stopped my gold sub.

I saw a lot of conjection on RPS that the PC version is entailing additional development time because they have to redo assests higher resolution. Which seems like not the way this stuff is made, and still would not explain the PS3 delay. Bethesda surely made it for PC and down-resed it for 360? Unless part of the exclusivity deal with Microsoft was that they develop Dawnguard in an inefficient and backwards way?

It's the other way around, it's so broken on the gimped hardware dating from 2006 that it can't be ported over directly. They need to redo a lot of stuff like it was supposed to. Hence the xbox kiddies are doing a great job at beta testing for when the actual Dawnguard releases.

I'll just wait till the PC DLC is on the Steam Sale. Such bad treatment of consumers, definitely does not deserve a full price purchase.

Thank goodness, I can't play Skyrim anymore without worrying about my Dong getting injured. It'll be nice to have the Donguard.

I'd be more annoyed if I didn't have a huge backlog of games to play zomg right now.

Wait...it's already been a month since Dawnguard released on the 360? That...that can't be right, can it? *checks* Well, I'll be damned...

I've been busy working on my Steam backlog (in the few weeks, Psychonauts, Batman AA and now working on Warhammer 40K Space Marine) anyway, so just get it out whenever, Bethesda. I probably won't get it until the Winter sale anyway.

Any word on whether the dlc will crash all the time on ps3, like the main game? Because that is still the bigger issue for me.

Lots of people have been playing it already on the 360, and they aren't all 'bros'... I don't own the 360 version but if I did I'd also be playing it. Instead I've been playing the base game on my PC for a bit again.

So weird that this isn't in the pipe and ready to go day one, you would think they would be hot on getting some more sales.

Because of the Xbox exclusivity and the wait, and the fact that it's now after the steam summer sale, I have no intention of buying Dawnguard at full price anymore. If they go 25% off during this winter sale I might get it. Might. There's just so much other stuff to play at this point. Wonder if their exclusivity deal was a mistake. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

The amount of hate towards console players is astounding.

I never complain that I can't play PC exclusives on my console - thats the way it is. Microsoft paid them a bunch of money to get content first; if it wasn't Microsoft someone else would be doing it.

Really get over it. If Bethesda cared so much about their player base then both version would be done before they rolled out the 360 exclusivity so that the second that time period is up they would release the PC and PS3 versions for the fans. They had an extra month to get ready and release it for the remaining platforms. Hate on Bethesda for not delivering on time not for Microsoft for securing early content for their playerbase.

Please give us more 30-day exclusivity for DLC. It's my favorite thing in the world next to launch day DLC.

So much butthurt. My only beef is that Skyrim sucks so I'd rather exclusively get something good for 30 days, like that year where we had the GTA4 DLC haha
