More Evidence PSPgo On Its Way Out

PSPGo: further proof that Sony Computer Entertainment is run by idiots.

I read the title as: "The perfect time for me to finally get a PSP Go".

Sony need to get their act together with this handheld stuff or just not do it at all. I think the NGP is doomed to fail purely because of it looks too much like the old PSP?

Now I want one!

When I re-bought a PSP it was only ever the 3000 that I considered. The lack of a UMD tray just meant that you were limiting yourself to what games you could play, never saw the appeal myself.

One of Sony's dumbest products. It could have been good. But they literally made it impossible to upgrade to one if you already had a PSP. 

You knew this was coming.

As for form factor, it's a really nice device. Doesn't have the screen issues of the 3000 and is much nicer to hold than any previous PSP I've tried

I like my Go. Truly pocket size form factor and no messing around with dumb UMDs. Sure there is no backcompat and you can't trade in your games but...I'm an adult. I buy and play games pretty much once. Twice if they are great. If I recommend a game to a friend I'll expect them to pay for their own copy.

Basically the haters are whiny broke-ass kids. Which consequently is the target demo of portable systems, so Sony did make a pretty big mistake. The only major problem (besides misaimed demographic) was the fact that Sony did not make digital release a prerequisite for PSP titles from the Go launch forward. Every game should have been downloadable day and date. Would that have been so hard?

My Go will eventually fetch a profit... when i'm dead of course.

Never really had a chance. Sony didn't even advertise it much.

The PSPGo was dead when it was announced, I don't remember any major want for a smaller PSP (or any new PSP for that matter)

Never seen one, don't know anyone who has/had/wants one, have no want for one myself....ever.  Seemed doomed from the gate.  A lot of people say "Sony is  too ambitious, too far ahead of its time blah blah."  I think it was just plain stupidity. Did they even do any market research? Hard to believe they did.  That's my two cents.

I'm starting to think the PSP go was just an experiment by Sony and was never intended or expected to be a financial success.

Think Xperia Play phone, that is the child of the PSP Go. Sony (or Sony Ericcson rather) believed to have developed the Xperia Play based on the PSP Go (externally they look rather similar).

And once again, consumers are Sony's guinea pigs. This thing launched to a resounding 'huh?' and not once did it ever justify it's own existence. Toss it in the closet with your minidisc player I suppose.

The PSPgo was basically amazing for pirates. 16 gigs of internal storage, plus a slot for a memory card? For an extra $40-50? The lack of UMD didn't hurt them at all, and they aren't limited by which games go up on PSN. For the actual consumer, though? Seems pretty much completely pointless.

BUY BUY BUY! :D

Sony's problem is they don't understand marketing. They don't know who to target at so they try everyone, and fail.

The main reason is, Sony is an electronics company. Gaming is only a small segment of the company. 

Fuck the PSP Go. What a terrible piece of hardware.

If this thing came out for 200 instead of 250 and had day and date release with UMD it might have been successful. It's a bummer either way

Playstation has never had a great success with their portables.

Maybe this will lead to the PSP becoming the hipster hand-held of choice, actually that would probably be reserved for something like the Sega Nomad!
