Mortal Kombat Temporarily Drops Kombat Pass Requirement on PS3

Free online multiplayer for everyone! On PS3, anyway.

During TNT, we had to enable the two-day temporary access to Mortal Kombat's multiplayer. With the PlayStation Store still down, if you didn't register your "Kombat Pass" prior to the great PSN crash of 2011, you're screwed.

Fortunately, Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios have heard your cries. The companies announced on Facebook that the Kombat Pass is being temporarily waived.

"Due to the recent PSN outage," reads the statement, at nearly celebratory likes, "Mortal Kombat for PS3 will now be playable online without need for the Kombat Pass. This is a temporary solution that will only be available while Playstation Store is unavailable. Once PlayStation Store is back up, users will be able to enter the Kombat Pass code included with Mortal Kombat or purchase a Kombat Pass for $9.99."

Sony's told developers the PlayStation Store should be back next week, so it's rather nice of everyone involved with Mortal Kombat to cut PlayStation players a break while Sony irons out the last kinks.

I'd also like to point out the incredible restraint it took to not drop random k's around this article.

Every version of this game needs an online pass. It's up to the publishers/developers to implement this to try to deter used game sales. So maybe you should think a little bit before you spout your fanboy troll comments.

The online passes are not exclusive to the playstation 3. Rather, they are specific to certain games, including most EA games.

Cant wait till the patch is out for MK, game is still laggy and janky online. Love MK so i really hope when the patch is released its smooth.

it's not an issue of it being only ps3 I hate the idea of developers building in any kind of extra sign in or pass or stuff like that in my view its so much easier and better if the game just works

Does anyone know if the laggy online fights are primarily a problem on the PS3 or does it affect the 360 owners as well? I'm not trying to troll, I legitimately want to know. Especially since I got my ass handed to me quite a few times while playing online. Some were my own stupidity, but most of them were because the lag throws the timing of my moves off.

Blame Warner Bros and other publishers that aren't Sony Computer Entertainment that are charging these extra fees. PSN is still free, but publishers can make you jump through as many hoops as they want if you want to play their game online.

Very cool that they did this. I was one of the fortunate that got their online pass in before the outage, but I'm glad those that didn't are getting to finally play now.

That's pretty cool!  Too bad my fancy television isn't coming in for a week or so and I won't be able to play MK online until then.  Luckily I've got an online pass so it doesn't matter anyway.  So in conclusion, that's really cool of them!

You actually get one of those passes free with your retail version of the game and only have to buy one for 10$ if you buy the game second hand?

Or does EVERYONE have to pay extra money on top of their 60buck game in order to play it online?

it comes with the game if you get it new, if you buy it used its 10$

This whole online pass thing fucking sucks in general, just let us play for free! I played for a while online, and I don't think I really want to play online ever again, everybody else is to good and I just get pummeled, I'll stick to FPS's online cause I'm great at those!

So since Sony is not using the pass, is the combat still have a lot of delay cuase thats why I wont play it online cuase the pass makes a insance amout of delay. If the delay goes away, Ill come back. Anybody know if it went away since they got rid of the pass?
