Mortal Kombat Webisode Thing Dated for Blu-ray

We can all pretty much agree the Mortal Kombat reboot viral video was great, and through I had every intention of watching the Mortal Kombat: Legacy webisodes that followed, somethingsomethingsomething.

I just never did.

Maybe that'll change, with news from High-Def Digest revealing the web series is coming to Blu-ray on November 8 for $19.98. It seems like a halfway decent way to spend an evening with some beers.

Presumably, there will be a DVD version, too, but it's not mentioned in the original report.

The disc will come packed with a bunch of supplemental features about the Mortal Kombat universe, including behind-the-scenes on the filming of Mortal Kombat: Legacy and the history of the series.

Oh, and it should go without saying, but haters gonna hate--original Mortal Kombat movie is rad.

That last episode was OK, rest was lamelamellame.

If it comes to the UK and isn't to expensive I might consider picking it up.

Eh, the series turned out to be nowhere near as good as the reboot video. The Raiden episode was awesome, but nothing else was quite as good. Stuck way too close to the original MK mythology, so some stuff looked crazy cool like the reboot, but most of it just looked silly. Like the Mileena and Kitana episodes. Ugh. Painful.

I didn't much care for the first viral video because I thought the idea of trying to fir these characters into a realistic, gritty setting was lame. Did the series try to keep with that idea or did they embrace the krazy?

Also, was there some hella sick techno theme that I can bump in my car while driving through the neighborhood at 1 in the morning?

It's part of the Giant Bomb charm. If you've paid to be a subscriber, I would think you would know by now what it is you paid for: silly people writing silly things and filming silly videos. It's exactly what I paid for.

@Dany: Yeah, I plan to rent it at the very least. That's Klassic (hahahahahah) Patrick for you if he isn't giving us news about NeoGaf, Gametrailers and constantly having typos in his articles then he is being lazy about his titles. I still wish they had stuck with the idea in the original teaser. It would be more interesting to see a different take on the MK characters, but most of the Legacy episodes just ended up being retellings of already explored MK mythos. Much less interesting. There were a few interesting episodes in there, though. Raiden's comes to mind.

I never read any articles on this site, but I do read the headlines. NOW WHERE'S MY QUICK THING OF LONESOME ROAD ON GIANTTHING.COM.

@hermes: Oh yeah, totally forgot about the Johnny Cage one. Yes. That one was pretty good too. Not a huge fan of the weird ending, but still one of the stronger episodes.

Biggest disappointment of the series? The Scorpion vs. Sub-Zero episodes. Wow. You just... if you're shooting for "traditional" MK fights, you're not going to beat the original Mortal Kombat movie. It nailed making a faithful adaption of the games, completely. The Scorpion from the new reboot trailer was badass, and fresh, and wild. The one in Legacy? Meh. Cool actor, but didn't give him anything cool to do.

I don't think it's worth $20. I only really liked 2-3 episodes.

The webisode series went downhill for me when they just followed the mystical origin stories of the "canon" MK mythology. What really drew me to the original teaser was the real-wrold interpretation of the MK characters.

The original trailer thingy was goddamn amazing. The web series is complete shit. That's about it.

First Mortal Kombat movie is on Bluray for $9.50 on Amazon. Get that instead.

alright, $20 seems a little steep but sure, some cash in exchange for a bluray is reasonable.  I also like the original MK movie.  wouldn't call it a great movie but I had fun watching it.

I would pay any (reasonable) amount of money for a disc over streaming any day.

I thought the series was great until they reached Kitana and Mileena, and then they dove headfirst into the mythical shit.

Only good episodes were Johnny Cage and Scorpion & Sub-zero

The first video was awesome and showed promise.  I thought the webisodes would follow with a story.  Instead it seemed like a bunch of background/origin stories.  Hardly showing any relation to another.  Disappointing.

The series wasn't as good as Legasy by any means, but I'll spend $20 on it. Hell, it will probably be around $15 on release week.

I don't care what anyone else says, I enjoy these webisodes.

The series is good, not great. I'd still like to see the R-rated, big-budget action extravaganza version of MK on the big screen someday but I know it'll never happen.

Not as good as the short but i will defiantly pick this up to support the series and hope they do more, it's far superior to the old live action films and the turrible live action tv they did on usa network.

Johnny Cage episode was still my favorite.

Am I the only one who didn't really care for the original "Rebirth" trailer? It was very well-produced, but I guess I just wasn't interested in a "realistic" take on MK. MK is too out there. For example: If you turn Baraka into just some guy who went crazy and put blades on his hands, well, that's not Baraka... I was relieved that Legacy stuck to the mythology, however the few episodes I saw just weren't all that great as far as production values and acting go.

There was a few good episode in there, the worst being the Kitana & Mileena.
