Get ready to pay for more content that you already bought.
Pay for me again, you will!In a move that surprises no one, Namco Bandai announced this morning that Darth Vader and Yoda would be available as downloadable characters in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, respectively, of Soulcalibur IV for $5 a pop. I'm a pretty big proponent for the positive powers of downloadable content, but it's hard to defend against accusations that publishers are using DLC as a way to charge extra for content that should've been a part of the core package when they pull some very plainly orchestrated shit like this. It has long since been figured out that the actual data for both Vader and Yoda is already on the disc, yet Namco Bandai insists on maintaining the charade that this is a reaction to "overwhelming fan response" and not a cynically calculated plan to squeeze an extra $5 out of you.
I probably shouldn't be quite so devisive, but I find such practices fairly unethical, and the only way you're going to stop publishers like Namco Bandai from playing dirty pool like this is to not help make it profitable, no matter how much you love Star Wars.
I will eventually play this game when I get it from Gamefly. If I owned the game I would not purchase the downloadable content. These are things that should have been in the game from day 1.
Downloadable songs for music games = good. Downloadable extras for Burnout= Awesome. Downloadable content for Warhaw= Sweet. Downloadable characters for any game = BS.
That's pretty shitty of them, especially considering Soul Calibur 4 wasn't even worth $60 in the first place. The story was barebones and the whole package felt right at home at $40. That's how I see it at least. $65 for the complete experience though? That's outrageous!
That's freaking pathetic. They already had everything completely done and finished and could have given everyone both those characters on both the 360 and PS3, but of course they'd rather charge more money for them. What a shameful move.
Face it guys ... this will be the normal thing for Namco and many other publishers from now on.
You really thing people did not buy the full game because it didn't have both characters in it? You paid for the game already. Even if only 1 person buys this DLC & $5 etc ... thats $5 more they have if they didn't bother doing it.
Its a WIN WIN WIN situation for them and many other game publishers will jump onboard this revenue stream very soon. :(
