New Civ V DLC To Add Two Cultures, One Scenario

Clear your schedule. You've got a date with Isabella of Spain.

More DLC is coming to Civilization V--2K Games and Firaxis have announced a new pack lovingly dubbed "Sid Meier's Civilization V Double Civilization and Scenario Pack: Spain and Inca," which adds Isabella of Spain and Pachacuti of the Kingdom of Cusco to the core game, as well as a scenario set around 1492 and based on the search for a trade route to China and the Indies.

Here's the descriptions of the two cultures and the scenario 2K Games shot over to us today:

Spain -- Isabella

  • Isabella I was the Queen of Castile and Leon for 30 years, and with her husband Ferdinand, laid the groundwork for the consolidation of Spain.  For her role in the Spanish unification, patronage of Columbus' voyages to America, and ending of the Reconquista (Recapturing) of the Iberian Peninsula, Isabella is regarded as one of the most beloved and important monarchs in the Spanish crown.

 Inca -- Pachacuti
  • Pachacuti was the ninth ruler of the Kingdom of Cusco, who during his reign expanded the tiny kingdom into an expansive empire--Tawantinsuyu. Pachacuti's Incan Empire stretched from modern-day Chile to Ecuador, including most of Peru, Bolivia, and northern Argentina, and laid the foundation for an even larger Incan Empire to come.

Scenario Description:
  • The year is 1492. To the courts of England, France, and Spain come intrepid explorers, anxious to voyage across the Atlantic in search of a western route to China and the Indies. Will they find a new trade route and uncover untold riches from the Asian shores? Or will they perhaps run aground on undiscovered lands along their way? Will native populations be receptive to the knowledge and trade prospects presented to them, or will they fight against the invaders of their homeland? What riches, fame, and opportunities await those who brave the unknown waters? What path will you choose? Who will prevail in the struggle for supremacy over this New World?

The Double Civilization pack is due to hit "major digital distribution retailers" on December 16. It's unclear if the DLC will hit the Macintosh version of the game, but at least we have a firm price: $7.49. Seems worth the time investment you'll probably get out of it, eh? Though, I'd imagine more than a few of you probably feel like you're already pouring way too much time into vanilla Civ V as is.

I got the DLC(begrudingly) because I really wanted the Incas. It was probably a terrible idea to reward Firaxis for selling us content that should already be in the game to begin with or should be added for free...

The Incas are only OK if the game decides to put you next to mountains or the AI civs don't eat up all those spaces later. Slingshotters are really weird, I didn't have their fleeing ability going off often at all...Terrace farms are good. The ability to have railroads or roads cost nothing on hills is ridiculous because these shouldn't cost anything to begin with...

Spain's ability to get gold for discovering natural wonders is totally hit or miss. This is because you could find a TON of natural wonders or none. Better than the ottomans I guess...Didn't get to try out their units.

This DLC should have been been free considering the ham-fisted attempt at game play design broken on an ELEMENTARY level. ARGHHH.

New Civ's are not going to make a broken game more fun, sorry.

Where is Sid Mier these days? On some sort of vacation resort with all of our money? Shouldn't he be designing these games? Why isn't he fixing the train wreck left by from the current designer? THE WORLD MAY NEVER KNOW!

Ya I enjoyed previous Civ games a lot more then Civ 5.  Several things need to get fixed and hopefully when an actual expansion is released something will make things better.

I had the same issue that many people did... I enjoyed the game the first few times I played it but got pretty bored with it.  Oh well maybe I should just turn my brain off and play it, maybe I'll enjoy it more.

Definitely too expensive for these civilizations, especially ones I'm not to keen on playing as.  I already got one of the maps free for pre-ordering but everything else I'll wait to hit some kind of sale.

Would love to see the Celts added though.
(and since this all seems to be content from Civ IV, it seems likely they will)

Yup, still can't launch it in fullscreen on my Mac.

And, uh, none of the DLC or mods will work.

Yup.

Looking good so far. I approve of more awesome tribes. However, I won't be spending any money on this (unless, in a year, we get a discount pack with ALL the previous DLC in one collection). I won't pay for anything that isn't Ragnar! Or some other viking name. Doesn't matter, as long as there's berserkers.

Gimme vikings plz.

I love the idea of more Civs to play with, but these prices are nowhere near what I'd pay for it...

If it was like 4 Civs for $5 I'd be on board, but I don't see myself paying more then that.

I'm loving Civ V, took a break from it when Black Ops came out but I'm back into it now, currently campaigning with the Aztecs.

I feel you. But you should try the one city challenge on diety with a huge map before fully finishing with the game. Despite the really stupid AI, you can't help but get a bit overwhelmed.

Well like 4 people already added Spain through mods but I guess this is nice. I can't help but feel like a lot of this is withheld content, since it was already basically in Civ 4. But whatever, its optional.

I doubt they're going to bother with an expansion. DLC is more profitable. If they were planning an expansion I doubt they'd be releasing DLC civs.

I love me some civs in my Civ games. I still haven't bought the Babylonian civ or any other DLC. Waiting for a GOTY/GOLD DLC pack or some kind of sale on Steam. Still hoping for an Alpha Centauri DLC.

So do we know what their specialties are yet?

Way to expensive. I'm not willing to pay more then 1-2$ for a civ. Maybe later if you pack it up and discount it severely.
Now work on fixing the unobtainable achievements.

None of the DLC is worth the price. Nebuchadnezzar II is $5.99 and the Asia map is $2.99.  Now they're releasing more overpriced DLC, but who can blame them. People are continuously buying them. I wouldn't mind forking over a dollar for Civilizations and 50 cents for maps.
