New Mass Effect 2 'Overlord' DLC Dated And Detailed

Overlord DLC gets a date, involves killing a virtual intelligence.

At some point, we'll be enjoying a nice hunk of new  Mass Effect 2 content that serves as a downloadable bridge for Mass Effect 3. For now, though, we'll have to settle for smaller, self-contained DLC packs such as Overlord, which now has a release date of June 15,  according to Major Nelson.

Don't kick yourself if you don't know what Overlord is. I didn't until I peeked at the official Mass Effect 2 website hoping for an update. According to the blurb, which was ironically added just yesterday afternoon, the DLC revolves around Shepard finding a base overrun by Geth. A sole survivor tells the Commander that the base's occupants were attempting to fuse a human with "virtual intelligence," and apparently they succeeded. The bad news is that this hybrid, named "VI Overlord," is going all Terminator on humans, attacking space installations in an attempt to free itself. So, yeah, you're going to have to stop that.

Oh, hey, this thing looks familiar.

The DLC takes place across five levels and has two achievements. According to the website it'll be priced at 560 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live Marketplace, while the PC version of the content will cost 560 BioWare points.

Ready for more Mass Effect 2? I still haven't had a chance yet to try out any DLC not named Kasumi's Stolen Memory. I liked that one, but it would have been grand if Kasumi possessed meaningful dialogue outside of her James Bond-style mission. That's a moot point here, considering that this DLC won't have any new characters for you to recruit. This one appears to be a one-off sorta deal.
