New Mass Effect Comic Series Focuses On The Illusive Man

Find out more about the guy we'd most like to party with, 2010.

Sure, we'd like to party with Mass Effect 2's Illusive Man, but we're also down to learn a little bit more about the mysterious Cerberus shotcaller's background. Conveniently, Dark Horse Comics is giving us just that chance in the coming weeks with Mass Effect Evolution, another four-issue mini-comic series created in collaboration with BioWare--the studio that created the Mass Effect universe and everything inside it.

Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 lead writer Mac Walters will have a hand in the series, as well as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic's Jackson Miller. Omar Francia is the dude behind the art, which you can already get a glimpse of via the BioWare blog and its seven-page preview of the first issue

== TEASER ==Here's the synopsis BioWare is providing (via Destructoid):

"Mass Effect Evolution chronicles humanity’s first deadly days on the galactic stage and uncovers the pivotal role The Illusive Man played in it all! Available only in comics, this essential piece of Mass Effect canon offers new insights for existing fans, while the focus on humanity’s first steps into the wider Mass Effect universe provides a riveting story of action and intrigue."

Dark Horse will ship Evolution in both physical and digital format. The latter you can get two ways, via the "Dark Horse Digital Comics program" or through its official App on iTunes. No firm release date has mentioned, but I'd imagine the first few issues will be released rather soon-ish.

The Illusive Man is Bioware's attempt at making a G-Man character or something. I hope Bioware won't go Assassin's Creed Lore-Lol on the character and make him some kind of ancient god.

I definitely want to read these, but I'm waiting for a full graphic novel with all the comics.

I liked Mass Effect: Redemption. Granted, neither its story nor its drawings were anything to write home about, but the comic was entertaining nonetheless.

" @137:  The Reapers are far from the only conflict in the Mass Effect universe, y'know. Lots of uncharted territory still too. All it takes is another species discovering a mass effect drive and boom. "
Sorry for being so mass effect noobish, I refused to play part 1 when it came out in 07 being a gaming snob and giving it the Jeff G "I played an hour of it and hated it (concerning RDR)" attitude, then I saw it was coming out for ps3 on a new engine and wanted to play part 1 so I got it on steam for 12 bucks thanks to holiday sales. Blew 30 hours of my life away and didn't fully explore the universe. Only to get part 2 for PC a few hours after beating 1 for 20 dollars, purchased all the DLC that had missions and blew another 40 hours of my life away and explored every inch of the galaxy and Boned Liara, Jack, and Tali. I fear that I'm going to die importing this character into Mass Effect 3 because he can't control his dick.   But man the fucking grin I had on my face that all of those scenes played out on top of the fact I kicked the collectors ass. Man I'm jumping right back in for round 2 as a renegade. I don't think I've ever played a game where I actually wanted to play through it a second time instantly.  "
I am having that same exact experience right now, Jeff , as well as a few other people who I really take stock in their word poo-poo'd it basically and just kind of wrote it off as being kind of unplayable and just a janky experience through out.  Well then Mass Effect 2 came out and I actually got a bit hyped for the game again, mostly from Vinny and really wanted to dive into the first, so I bought the first for like $20 bucks and have sunk around 10 hours into it ATM and then probably going to jump into the ME2 by spring time once I finish the first Mass Effect (it will take me like a month or two to finish ME1 just because I really take my time in games and really stretch them out.  Not really just just because I want to explore everything, but I just like taking breaks and really let the game set in and play it whenever I really want to instead of rushing through it,). "
Well just a word of warning, there is some mission in mass effect 1 that without warning just shotguns you into the climax of the game. I don't know where that is because like an idiot I saved my game but anything dealing with Saron just put it off and visit other systems. The more stuff you do in that game will make sense when you play part 2. Certain events will be included in your ME2 experience as I noticed I missed out on those events for not exploring certain places in ME1 .

So looking at the images on Comic Vine and the interview of the writer shows apparently the Illusive Man is going to be a little more emotional than most gamers may be use to.
