Keeping my fingers crossed that one of the unannounced titles will be "Metroid: Zero Mission" game was soooooooooooooo good

Wow, that's a pretty significant drop, and pretty unexpected even if sales were lagging. I thought at least they'd hang around at that price until games came out and then drop next year. But I suppose they weren't willing to let a Christmas pass by with crappy numbers. Still not convinced to pick it up, but at that price I'll probably do it w/in the next year if games start coming out.

Considering my 3DS has been sitting around doing nothing for months, sure, I'll take a bunch of free games.

Hmm. Buy a 3DS now and get the free games, OR buy it after the price drop, OR hold off until the inevitable next hardware iteration and improvement of the 3DS software library like I was going to anyway?

Sigh - frustrating for a 1st day purchaser like me, but I get it. 20 free GB/GBA games is nice, sure, but its still kinda an $80 hit to the gut.

If they coupled this with a price drop for the games (having them all start at $20-30) I think I'd feel much better about things.

I blame the economy. People are having trouble finding a job to pay for this new game, let alone the parents refusing to buy ANOTHER version of the DS for their kids.

The 3DS has nothing I want. But for 30 bucks I might try it. So, I am waiting for another price drop.. when Ninty realizes that they wont profit from the shananigans (promises) of 3D.
Also all games look like crap so far (compared to what can actually be done with technology these days). Maybe I have grown up and maybe I am becoming dull. But I still want nice textures and stuff. 3D isn't a step forward. Sony's handheld is. Although, I wont buy that either.

Wow, I expected a $199.99 price drop before Vita, but not an additional 30 dollars. This seems... desperate. And somewhat foolish too. It's all about the games, Nintendo. Blame yourself for having such an awful library for now and the foreseeable future.

still don't want one. Saving all my cash for the Vita.

It's now more tempting to buy one.

Much more affordable for me. Shame it's got barely any games- let alone games worth playing.

I believe the 3DS is doing better than the DS is at the same point in the lifetime cycle minus the holiday bump (3DS hasn't had one yet, gate).

Price cut is swaying my impression. I've had a little fun money set aside for a while, and I really like the look of the Ghost Recon game.

I'm seriously considering it now, which is a significant change from my previous apathy, so the price cut is doing that at least.

OTOH, maybe I should wait for the inevitable 'Lite" release of improved hardware. Nintendo's fault if everybody is gunshy on buying their systems at/near launch.

I'm a lot more likely to pick one up now, my interest having dried up pretty quickly after the launch. They're going to have to do better than N64 ports, though.

That bit about "we're not selling these GBA games to people who aren't early adopters" is weird. For starters, it's a blatant lie. I don't understand the corporate need to obsessively control information like that.

Metroid Fusion is my favorite Metroid game to date...awesome

@Otrebor: I'm sure they will drop the price before the Vita comes out. Price to price there is really no comparison but I am sure the Vita games will cost more.

They could sell the 3DS for 50 bucks.. the software lineup just isn't there right now to justify spending money on one. Third party support is anemic, moreso than usual, and Nintendo's announced offerings are all lacking creativity and vision - it's the same old shit with a different coat of paint.

I like the system, it's got potential, but I use it more for a pedometer than anything game related and that's just sad. Give people a reason to buy it (release some good original games) and they will.

That's a good drop, the system is fully worth that price, especially with Mario Kart, and Mario 3D coming out this fall. I'm kind of bummed that the price dropped so soon after I bought the 3DS but I should've known.  Oh well, the downloadable games should be good, especially the GBA.

Easy simple article! Unlike one over at Destructoid where the editor is extremely pissed (kind of pathetic) and tries to say that Nintendo "Trolled" the industry. The editor says Nintendo is a joke, seems like he's the joke.

Seeing as I won't pay $250 for those and that much of the reason I would want a 3DS would be for old GBA games, them not allowing new buyers to get those games puts me in the negative zone. Idiots.

Still not enough to make me buy one. I think the only thing that would at this point is a proper Sidescrolling Metroid Game. It's been 7 years or so since the last one... come on Nintendo.

The next generation of handhelds starts August 11th. I would not be surprised if Sony follows suit with the Via.

Then it's just a DSi with bad battery life and a very poor selection of games. The 3D effects are pretty much the only selling factor here.

um... That isn't accurate by any measure of the imagination.  That's like saying the SNES was the same as the NES.  The 3DS has a vastly superior processor over the DSi that supports high quality graphics and more intensive processing tasks for more complex gameplay.  Even with the 3D off, it has a lot going for it as a gaming platform.  It just needs the games.

Doesn't really change anything... no games I want to play. Same with psv, Wii u, ps move, kinect. If anything it gives me concern about the titles coming in the future....or lack there of...

No thanks. I don't want old games, I want new, original games that justify the purchase of the system at any price point.

This move is very uncharacteristic  for Nintendo and reeks of desperation. They could drop the price to $50 and it would still not be compelling enough with their current and announced line up.

It's doing better than the DS was at launch, and while the price drop seems like a desperate move it will almost certainly help sales, especially around Christmas time. It's only suffered because of the high price tag and lack of games, both of which are being remedied.

Hardware sales must be really bad for them to do this.

I finally got a chance to put my hands on one last night at Gamestop.... I wasn't really impressed I guess. Even at $170, I'm still not sold. Sorry, Reggie. I still love that doofy smile of yours though.
 
Also: I feel sorry for all the peopl who buy this before the cut goes into effect Aug 12.. Ouch! Free games from 10-20 years ago does not an $80 gap fill.
