Now There Are Two People Who Want A Getting Up Sequel

Apparently it's not just me.

STILL FREE CREW
STILL FREE CREW
Hello, I'm Jeff Gerstmann, and I'm the guy that really liked Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure. Considering the way that game gets brought up in extremely derisive ways these days, I've had the feeling that I'm the only one out here that still has fond memories of the crazy near-future Turk 182 update, where Trane takes back the night with paint cans.

It was the atmosphere and the world that the developers created that made it stand out, and I can still remember a lot of the game's big set pieces. Great voice cast and soundtrack, too.

Anyway, my desire to see the game get a sequel or remake or something is apparently shared by the clothing magnate responsible for its production, Marc Ecko. At least, that's what he claims in a recent interview with Destructoid. He also takes a moment to blame the game's publisher, Atari, claiming that they... well, here's the quote...

"Getting Up was a lot of blood, sweat, and tears," he said. "Atari shit the bed, you know? And I'm gonna f*cking make that game again if it kills me. I'm gonna do it. I want to see the brand out there again."

Given that Ecko has gone on to launch his own game company, which produced Dexter for the iPhone, maybe he's actually serious about all this. Or maybe he'll get control of the name back from Atari and pump out an iPhone graffiti game with no ties to the world that made the first game so cool. There I go, getting all cynical again... I guess that's what happens when people start talking in business lingo and refer to things as "brands."

I would also love a Getting up sequel, the first one had great potential but some of the mechanics were busted in that game.

I remember really liking Getting Up as well.  It sucks that I bought the Collector's Edition for the Xbox up in New Jersey about two years ago and the 360 can't play it.  Such bullshit.

I enjoyed Getting Up a lot. The story ended up being a bit ridiculous, but it was a great game. Especially when I got to torch people with a spraycan flamethrower. It definitely doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

Getting Up 2 would be great if they fixed it up a bit more, I really liked the idea.

Thank god someone else enjoyed that game. Marc Ecko may create crimes against fashion nature, but that game was really fun and I really hope they make a sequel

I really liked Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure. There's a lot of love and good ideas in that game. I'd love to see a sequel that builds on the first, polishes some of the mechanics, and tells another story in that style.

I'd love a Getting Up 2, although I have a feeling that 1. That's never going to happen. 2. It'll suck if it does.

I loved the first Getting Up, and I got it thanks to your Gamespot review for it. So thank you Jeff. :D

And yes, a sequel could be really awesome. Really, really awesome. Where do I sign an internet petition to get this game made?

I won a Getting Up hoodie courtesy Jeff for a contest On the Spot before the game was released. Unfortunately I never gained the necessary body mass to make an XL hoodie fit so that I could wear it in public. But, on occasion, I'll pull it out of the closet, put it on, and throw up tags with Crayola crayons while pretending I'm but a young lad dreaming of being a real graffiti artist.

Getting up was a pretty good game, and if Mark could get a solid team behind some sort of rehash or do-over i would be down.

Such a great but broke-ass game.  The atmosphere was great, and the premise was great.  Unfortunately, due to Atari's shoddy abilities of making a fully-functioning and playable game, it just didn't stand up like it should've.  Hopefully, Marc Ecko can get that license back and give us a PROPER game that we can drool over.

And let's face it - it'd probably have some KICK-ASS achievements.  = D

What I played was enjoyable. The most distinct memory I have is that I never beat the train mission. I tried many times, but many was not enough.

I love how he's more concerned with reviving the brand than anything else.  It's pretty apparent he didn't really have any interest into getting into games beyond the dollar signs.

I have that game specifically because you recommended it, Jeff.  I like its style and attitude, I just wish the controls weren't so weird and the camera wasn't so hemmed in.  I'm all for Prince of Persia style stuff, and I like the urban environment.  If he makes it more freeform, the combat more fluid, and the tag mechanic even more detailed and dynamic, then yes.

I totally dug Getting Up. The world was cool, the fighting had a lot of impact to it, the music was AMAZING, and the artwork was top notch. I still don't really understand why people hated on it.

I actually really enjoyed getting up, I thought the platforming was pretty fun, it would be cool if they made a next gen version.  My memory is probably making the game better than it actually is but oh well, sequel please.
