Until now, it's been unclear if you’d be able to control the more unconventional of the two protagonists in FEAR 3’s solo campaign, a ghost that goes by the name of Paxton Fettel. Unlike Point Man, who is your conventional marine, Fettel doesn’t fight with guns. He fights with psychic powers, able to possess enemy soldiers or send out blasts of immobilizing and destructive energy. But, as it turns out, you’ll be able to run through the campaign as Fettel--provided you’ve beaten the level you want to use him in with Point Man first.
FEAR 3 has largely been pitched as a co-op-focused joint with playable Fettel as one of the mode’s bonus features. I’d imagine technical and design factors made it tough for Day 1 Studios' to get Fettel playable in solo. He’s definitely an unconventional character whose abilities are pretty limited, if an enemy isn’t around to possess or if Point Man isn't around to shoot at stuff.
That said, looks like Fettel will be able to handle his own just fine now, according to this trailer.
FEAR 3 hits stores later this May for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Who's in?
