Payne Train Pulls Into Xbox Live

Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne available now as Xbox Originals.

No Caption Provided
With Max Payne 3 just around the corner, what better time than now to revisit or get acquainted with the hard-boiled, flat-footed melodramatics of New York's most tragic two-fisted cop? Today Microsoft has made both Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne available for download on the Xbox 360 as Xbox Originals. It could be argued that the comic-book-noir trappings of the series were corny, that the first game dragged on and the second one ended abruptly, but I'll be damned if there are any other games that make shooting two guns while jumping through the air in slo-mo as thoroughly satisfying. The Xbox wasn't the definitive platform for the Max Payne series, but, if my memory serves, it survived the porting process rather well. Both games can be purchased through Xbox Live for the standard Xbox Originals price of $15 a pop.

My personal favorate however is the PC version of Max Payne, simply because there are some crazy mods for it. There was this really cool one that gave Max orange hair, a ti-di jacket , made all the guns fire laser blasts with star wars sound effects and turned the lead pipe weapon into a lightsaber, sound effects and all.

Ryan, as a public service announcement, you should mention that you can get both Max Paynes on Steam for about the same price as one Max Payne Xbox Original.

Question, are they in widescreen? Or is it like many of the others where there are huge black bars.

Great games but WAY TOO MUCH - 1200 points is outrageous even when they first were sold.  Many if not all can be found at second hand stores, ebay, garage sales for around 5 to 10 dollars.  I think I saw a copy at EB/Gamespot the other day for like 6.99 - you can even get the two games on steam for 14.99 as previously mentioned as well..

I cant wait til they release Jet Set Radio for 15 dollars - you can literally find that game for 2 dollars.

I saw the original at Gamestop for $3.99 and Payne 2 for $.99. As much as I hate Gamestop, that's a good deal.

Man, no wonder I've been diving back into my old PC games. Mafia II makes me want to play Mafia again and now Max Payne 3 brings up the nostalgia for Max Payne 2. I have it, should put it back on the hard drive.

Not only is the PC the better place to play them, you can get both games from Steam for same price as you'd pay for one of them on Xbox Originals.
I don't know. It sells itself.

um okay 1200p points is OUTRAGEOUS but your fine with 14.99 on steam? ITS the same freaking price.
asfor that jet set radio was awesome and is totally worth more hten 15 dollars.
Edit: did not read that its 14.99 for both of them.

P.S: why do people keep saying the PC is the place to play them? i wonder how many none pc gamers will have a pc capable of playing them at top settings, you do know it takes alot of server space to host both games and send them out to people right?

Bought em both today. I LOVE this series. Beaten em about 10 times each. Very happy to have them on my 360 Hard Drive. Also, to whoever asked, it's in 4:3. AKA Black bars on the sides.

People fail to realize when we say Steam is selling them for fifteen bucks, that means bundled together...personally I don't even think that is a very good deal.  I would consider buying this if it was both games together for like ten bucks.

Yeah... got both on Steam for either $5 or $10 bucks awhile back, and that was in a bundle. So when this fails to sell a whole lot, I hope they realize it isn't because the games aren't great; they're both masterpieces of their time, as a matter of fact.

Really, don't get it. I got Max Payne for $5 used and the sequel for $1.49 used at Gamestop. Yes! You read that right, less than $2! They are still good games, but save money when you can.

Both games together on Steam are 14.99 - individually they are 9.99 - still a better deal either way.

It's a shame, because people who are just looking to play these games to see what they're like are going to get Max Payne 1, when MP2 is a Far superior game.

@ Agentofchaos----  BLASPHEMY!!!!   Seriously though i didnt like Max PAyne 2 nearly as much. MAx payne didnt look like max payne, nor did mona or vinnie. The first one is better in all departments, besides the slight alterations they made in the games mechanics, in the sequal.

Max Payne 2 was easily the better game if only because of the sweet packaging the game got.  I keep that game around just for the nice PC box.  Which of course is null in a XBL game...which makes 50% of the content pointless when you could find it for 2$ if all u want is the games.

Its good to see that the Max Payne series is getting a lot of notoriety again. A game not as outwardly recognized as I think they should be. Easily my favorite games of all time, I've played each through countless times, and plan to do the same with the third. :)

Love both games, but they're so much better when you get em on steam for $5 for the pair. :) (The sale a month or so ago.)

I have fond memories of Max Payne on the PC, I am tempted to get this, if only to play it on my TV with my controller. Oh wait I have the PC reciever for the 360 wireless controller and i recon an 8 year old game will run just fine on my mediacenter with IGP at least in 1024x768.

But how does it handle on a controller, opposed to a mouse/keyboard

Those games didnt really need very top of the line pc's to run even when they first came out, especially max payne 2, ran on my dodgy weak ass Geforce FX5200 and my friends Geforce 4 mx 440 weak ass video cards. Both ran it on high.

Having played MP1 on both Xbox and PC, the Xbox version is just fine.  Other than the blood-trails jumping puzzle.  That shit was annoying to use the controller and TV sound for, instead of mouse and headphones.

The PC versions are better and you can them both together on Steam for £8.99 (about $13) which is much cheaper then paying $15 for each.
